Howdy from Bartlett.

Also consider that you only have 21 posts. Many folks here strongly prefer to do business with long standing and established members who they know. We had a thread about such things just recently. It simply boils down to their gun, their choice.

I guess I'm just too traditional. I just can't like the new tacticool lever guns. But seeing as the antis are dead set on banning ARs, I can understand the appeal to some.

You're preaching to the choir Bubba.

Linebaugh was a big fan of the .45 Colt cartridge. He was especially fond of the S&W Model 25-5 in this caliber. Like everything else he pushed the big Colt round to its limits. For many years most folks believed the S&W 25 couldn't stand up to anything more than standard velocity ammo and it was downright dangerous to try to pump it up. Linebaugh proved that to be wrong. While he did warn against trying to "magnumize" the .45 Colt, he often pumped it up into the +P range with no ill effects on the big S&W at all.

A real pioneer. R.I.P.

Glad to hear you're OK. I just replaced my smoke detectors last week. One of them got to chirping even with a brand new battery in it. Considering they were already here when I bought the house 30 years ago, I just went ahead and replaced them all. I do have a couple of fire extinguishers as well. Its good to be prepared.

I'm far from any expert. Hell, I'm probably a bit crazy myself. What I'm seeing is a fundamental difference in the way kids are raised today. When I was a kid we were taught that life is hard. Its up to you to make the best of it. We were taught that there ain't no free ride. You gotta work for what you want. We were taught that actions have consequences. You mess up, expect to pay the price. It wasn't so much "get over it" as it was "deal with it". Today's young people were raised in a "no child left behind" and "everybody get a trophy" world. They're given unreasonable expectations that life is all peaches and cream. They actually believe that life is supposed to be "fair". Then when they become young adults and suddenly find themselves having to face the real world on their own, they're completely unprepared for it. Life didn't turn out the way they wanted. But they have no clue as to how to fix it. So they become angry, depressed and blame everybody else for their problems. Has there ever been a mass shooter/killer that wasn't mentally ill? But instead of dealing with the difficult and complex problems of mental illness, its so much easier to blame an inanimate object, the gun. Gun control is about the appearance of addressing the problem. Not actually dealing with it. And that is the gist of the problem. Everybody knows mental illness is running rampant in this country, but nobody is willing to take the time, money or trouble to address it. Its a damned difficult thing to try to deal with. Liberals especially will never admit that their policies have contributed to the problem. Its all about looking like you're doing something rather than actually doing anything. Perception and politics over any real effort.

Completely agree. Selling to a gun shop is the last resort. Like Ronald said, they have to resell at a profit. Generally they try to buy for 50-60% of actual value.
-
Very true. What they're selling for on the internet and what you can actually get locally can often vary greatly. What may be a hot seller in a different part of the country may not appeal to the folks where you live. In my experience used black powder guns have very little resale value unless they are really rare or collectible. Usually half or less than original retail price. The AR-7 will depend on who made it. Several companies have made them and some are more desirable than others. The current Henry version sells for about $250 brand new. OTOH an original Armalite could go for much more. The AKs can vary as to maker, features and such. Not really my thing, but we have some folks here who are very knowledgeable.
-
The Blue Book is useless. The prices are out of date the moment it was printed. It does make a great general reference book though. Checking completed auctions on GunBroker is your best bet. This will tell you how desirable a gun is and what they are actually selling for right now. As mentioned, post 'em here. We got some knowledgeable folks on this site. Plus, if she decides to sell, lots of us would be interested. Warn your friend to NOT sell anything until she's done some research. There are unfortunately unscrupulous people who will try to take advantage of her lack of knowledge and try to buy the guns at ridiculously low prices to cheat her.

Just to clarify my position. I will support your right to believe whatever you want. However, that does not mean that I approve of or condone your BS. For me its about individual freedom. The right to think, believe and feel for yourself without undue restrictions forced by laws based on other's beliefs.
-
I will fully support your right to hold whatever beliefs you may have. Whether they be religious, moral, ethical, political, sexual or whatever. If you tell me that you can't do something because it goes against your beliefs, I can respect that even if I don't agree with you. But when you tell me that I can't do something because it goes against your beliefs, well then Bubba, we got us a problem.

I got an e-mail from TFA today suggesting their picks for a new Lt. Governor. They seem to think McNally is as good as gone.

Mental illness is reaching epidemic levels in this country. Yet nobody wants to admit it exists or try to deal with it. Our society is circling the drain and nobody cares.

“Not only have Tennessee Republicans now become the laughingstock of the nation, the bottom line is this: Randy McNally is a predator,” Warner said in the statement. Note the bold words. Republicans all over the country have gone nuts and Tennessee is leading the charge. Drag shows, LGBTQ, abortion and so on. You CAN NOT legislate morality! Its been tried for centuries and has NEVER worked. More often than not, it comes back to bite the butt of those trying to force their values on others. I may not agree with your lifestyle choices, but I fully support your right to choose for yourself. How a person chooses to live their life ain't nobody else's damned business!

I just found out that Girsan is now making a shorter Detective version of their Hi-Power clone. Called the MC P35 PI. It will come in several different colors and include rail and optics ready versions. MSRP is expected to be in the $560-ish area. They're just starting to be available now. Rumor has it that there's an alloy frame version in the works. I will be getting one of these! https://www.guns.com/news/2022/08/08/mcp35-pi-eaa-to-bring-in-chopped-hi-power-clone https://www.tactical-life.com/firearm-news/eaa-girsan-mc-p35-pi/

Yep, they do a test buy. My card once bought a cup of coffee at a Starbucks in Kansas. Credit card company caught it. If it had gone through, then they would have loaded up.

Robert Stack playing the character Elliot Ness in the Untouchables.

I'll say it one more time. We have the best government money can buy.

If only you were closer. Any chance you'll be in the Memphis area anytime soon?
