  1. No reason not to. The M1A is a fine rifle. I love mine. The Grand is just special. A piece of history and a pure joy to shoot. You have to understand that the Garand was designed in the 1930s. .30-06 ammo has come a long ways since then. Modern hunting ammo runs at pressures the Garand was never designed for. As I said, several makers do make modern ammo specifically for the Garand. Ammo is out there.
  2. I'm a huge fan of both the M1 Garand and the M1A. I've got 2 Garands and 4 M1As. The M1A is my choice for a main battle rifle. And I agree with Garufa that the Scout Squad is the best all around choice. The 18" barrel is the perfect compromise between power and handling. Be aware that the plain stock versions aren't target guns. They were designed for combat. Most will shoot 2-3" at 100 yards. Plenty good enough for hunting or combat. For a real tack driver ya gotta spend big bucks. However, the M1 Garand is just pure class. A true piece of history. Your best bet for that is CMP. Yeah, a few hoops to jump through, but you get a completely serviceable rifle at a good price. A pure joy to shoot. The down side with the M1 is that you shouldn't shoot commercial hunting ammo in it. Too much pressure. And the supply of good Mil-surp ammo is drying up. However, there are modern commercial loads just for the Garand.
  3. I'd also go with a pistol caliber lever gun. Preferably a 16" Trapper model. Short, light, fast and easy to handle. Plus you can top off the magazine as you go.

I won't even pretend to know anything about the world of banking and finance. But my gut felling is that if .gov gets involved, they're gonna screw it all up.
  5. I do remember one thing about the place. My wife and I went in there once just to try it out. We sat down, looked at the menu, made note of the prices, got up and left. That's probably why they ain't around anymore and nobody can remember the place.
  6. Why'd y'all have to bring this back up? Now ya got me wondering. There was a place like what is described in Wolfchase mall when it first opened years ago. It was an upscale place as I remember. Kinda expensive for the likes of me. But I distinctly remember it being kinda dark, rustic decor and those flickering bulbs. DAMMIT! I can't remember the name.

Our current educational system is a disaster. No child left behind, grades don't matter, everybody gets a trophy and you're so special. We have kids graduating high school who can barely read or write. They struggle with basic math and they have no comprehension of science or history. But they sure are woke! Our schools are little more than liberal indoctrination centers. School should be hard. It should be challenging. It should make kids work hard and think for themselves. Failure is the best teacher. Then they're suddenly thrust out into a real world that they're completely unprepared for. They soon discover that they aren't special and nobody gives a damn about them. You actually have to work to accomplish your goals. Some of them just can't handle it and fall into depression or worse. This has been going on for at least the last 30 years or more. Now we have a bunch of ignorant , liberal drones who vote. And that is what is wrong with this country today.
  8. It turned out to be a beautiful day today. Sunny skies, 63 degrees and a slight wind. I grabbed my stuff and headed to the range. One picture is worth a thousand words. Mozambique speed drills at 10 yards. Draw, 2 to the body, 1 to the head., reholster and repeat. Not bad for a decrepit old man. All in all I shot about 300 rounds. Not even the slightest bobble. I didn't even notice the heavy trigger. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with it. Looks like I have a new gun in the carry line up.
  9. Neither. Its all cheap crap. I spent my life turning wrenches. Only buy quality tools. Your knuckles will appreciate it.
  10. I just used a wire brush on a bench grinder. Quick and easy.
  11. As I've said many times before, every cop I've ever asked has told me that the most common stolen gun report that they do has the weapon stolen out of a vehicle. Vehicles are not very secure. While I agree its the thief's fault. You shouldn't give them the opportunity.
  12. Sig mags have always been expensive. But if you like their guns, ya gotta pay the price. Check your LGS. I was surprised to find mine had mags for my Sigs at a reasonable price.
  13. Well, I've done all I can do with this gun. I removed the magazine disconnect, trimmed the sear lever spring a little and did some light polishing on the sear and hammer. Best I could do was get the trigger pull down to right at 7 lbs. But it is smooth, crisp, consistent and much better than it was. It really feels much better than it actually measures on the scale. I'm thinking it will get even better with use. Only time will tell. Much to my chagrin, I've discovered that the C&S safety lever will not work in this gun. It seems that the stud that actually blocks the sear is just a tad smaller on the Girsan and the C&S lever won't go through the hole in the frame. Also the detent position is slightly different. When in the off position the C&S lever sticks up just enough to block the slide. While I'm not real happy with the factory lever, I can live with it. Ok, so its not a Browning. But for half the price, Its still a good gun. I'm happy with it. Of course its raining today and forecast calls for rain pretty much all next week. I have no idea when I'll get to the range to test it out. But a range report is coming. Stand by.
  14. Red October was a good movie despite having Baldwin in it. I never have liked the liberal jerk.
  15. I'll watch it just out of curiosity. That is once its on TV. I sure won't pay to see it. I guess Baldwin is stuck. He has to finish this movie because it'll probably be the last one he ever does. At least that's what I hope.
  16. BULLSH!T Just because the trigger was replaced doesn't make the gun more likely to misfire. In all likelihood the trigger was replaced because it was misfiring. I doubt a gun rental company would have incompetent gunsmiths working on their guns. Unless physically broken, that still doesn't dismiss the fact that the trigger has to be pulled all the way back to get past the half cock notch on the hammer. The FBI determined that the gun was in perfect operating order. Once again the rich and famous get away with murder. At least we have the satisfaction of knowing his career is dead as a hammer.
  17. I sent e-mails to both my state senator and representative about this. I made my voice heard. I can't say that they will listen, but what more can I do?
  18. Jeff, you planning a trip to the west end any time soon? If you get this way, I got one I'll give you.
  19. My late wife had several guns and could shoot pretty well. However, she never wanted to carry. That feisty little Italian girl was the first to admit that she was too hot tempered to be carrying a gun. OTOH, I feel sorry for the idiot that dared mess with her.
  20. Something that has occurred to me that most people may not consider. I have a fairly large collection. Some of which are considered rare collectibles and quite valuable. If I were to get "Red Flagged" and my guns taken, do you really think they would treat my guns as the valuables they are? Nope! They'd throw them into piles and boxes and haul them away like so much trash. Then only to be thrown in some evidence room/ locker, neglected and allowed to rust. Then say I win my case and my guns are returned. The scratches and damage to them will considerably affect their value. Will I have any recourse to sue the government for this loss? I really doubt it.
  21. When the Lawgiver MK II goes into standard production, I'll consider a smart gun.
  22. PM sent.
