CMP is definitely the way to go. Check the web site first. Not only to make sure your paperwork is in order, but to be sure they're open. The Anniston CMP South store is scheduled to move in the near future. When that happens they will be closed for a while. Meanwhile, they've got some good close-out deals for walk in customers.
  2. Seeing as I don't speak leagalize worth a damn, now I completely confused. Can somebody please explain in plain English just what his new laws says? Exactly what's the property/business owner is liable for if they do or don't post the No Guns signs? If they post and something happens they are liable? If they don't post and something happens they aren't liable? I get a headache just trying to figure this stuff out.
  3. Those of you who went to the Germantown gun show last weekend were probably just as surprised as I was to see the new signs at the door. Instead of the usual "No Loaded Guns Or Magazines" signs we're all used to, we saw this: CONCEALED CARRY ALLOWED WITH VALID PERMIT. NO BRANDISHING OF FIREARMS. Being the curious type, I e-mailed R.K Shows and asked why the change. I got a response this morning. "Legally there was some laws that changed in TN enacting the change of policy for concealed carry permit holders" So it seems that this policy change is the result of the new law which recently took effect here in Tennessee where business owners who post No Guns signs become liable for the safety of their customers. My first thought was "Ain't this cool! Now I don't have to bother with unloading and having my carry gun tied". Who among us hasn't commented at one time or another on the irony of going to a gun show but not being trusted to carry our properly licensed and loaded EDC? But on reflection, now I'm not so sure if this is a good thing. We all know that there are a lot of people out there carrying guns with very little training and some have even less common sense. We also know that some folks are at the gun show to find things like holsters, magazines and accessories for their carry gun. Then there are those who just wanna show friends they happen to meet there what they're carrying. Now consider that gun shows can often become very crowded. People can be shoulder to shoulder and bumping into each other. I'm just not sure if I'm comfortable with a bunch of total strangers handling loaded guns under those conditions. What do you think?
  4. I'm gettin' on in years and readily admit to being opinionated as hell. I like metal guns with exposed hammers and proven designs. As such, I go with 1911s and S&W revolvers. My most carried guns are a pre-70 Colt Commander in .45acp and a 3" S&W Model 13 in .357. In revolvers I prefer the K- frames for carry. But I do have a Model 36 that I occasionally grab for quick trips when I'm too lazy to strap on a real gun. I absolutely detest plastic guns. Glucks in particular as they just don't feel right and are butt ugly to boot. However, I do own one piece of plastic and it has a specific purpose. Its a Colt Mustang XSP that I usually carry on my daily walks. With the poly frame and stainless slide, its about as sweat proof as you can get. Besides, its just a baby 1911.
  5. I've taught several women to shoot and everyone of them liked the size and weight of a J-frame .38 UNTIL they shot it. Not one of them wanted anything to do with a J-frame .38 after that. When my late wife's arthritis got to the point where she could no longer handle the recoil of her Detective Special, she found a nice 2" S&W Model 30 in .32 S&W Long and fell in love with it. This J-frame is small and easy to carry while the .32 long has very little recoil and is much better than a .22. Loaded with the Mag-Tech hollow points, this make an acceptable self defense gun.
  6. His first handgun should be something personal that will last a lifetime and have special meaning to him. Open your safe and let him pick one of yours.
  7. You signed on of your own free will and knowing the terms. They kept their end, you keep your's. Speaking only for myself, I have no use for a man who doesn't fulfill his commitments or honor his word.
  8. That is exactly what I'm afraid of. I got a real bad feeling about this. I fear its gonna make the Dems in '68 look like a walk in the park.
  9. I'm all for exercising one's legal and constitutional rights. But they must be tempered with some common sense. While it is legal, there's no way that I would go anywhere near that convention with a firearm. In fact, I wouldn't go near the place period. While the Republicans see this as their big show, The democrats, liberals, leftist, antis and everybody else with a grudge sees this as an opportunity to stir up trouble. So a bunch of well intention-ed gun owners show up open carrying as a demonstration of supporting their rights. The troublemakers are going to target them right off. They will attempt to provoke a confrontation and IF that happens, even if no firearms come into play, who do you think the liberal media will blame? If cool heads and common sense prevail, this could be gun owner"s finest hour. But the potential for disaster is far too great to take chances with. I, for one, pray that the people of Cleveland show the courage and restraint to just not give them the opportunity.
  10. Unfortunately, there are people who will believe this.
  11. I think its already too late. Even if Remington has all the bugs worked out and the pistol totally perfect, I seriously doubt it will ever overcome its dreadful start. Remington is making good on the ones they have already sold, but I do wonder if they'll even try to market new ones? When the R51 first came out, I was somewhat interested due to my liking of the original Model 51 .380. However, when I ran across a R51, as soon as I held it in my hand I was like Aw Hell No! The R51 design just plain sucks.
  12. Nope, did not locktite the rail and have never had a problem with it. I considered a folding stock, but just didn't like the feel of it. As Garufa said, stick to USGI mags. I've never had any problems with them.
  13. I can recommend the Ultimak Forward Optic Mount as I have one on my tacticool M1 Carbine. Easy to install and stays solid. I've had this one for years and been very happy with it. I call this my Zombie Gun.
  14. Well damn. The Academy here hasn't been open all that long and I was just starting to like it. Although I don't go there much. Their business is a lot more than just firearms though. There are quite a few liberal tree huggers out there than buy hiking, camping and exercise equipment. So while I don't agree with their decision, I can understand it. Give it a month or two and I'm guessing that all those evil ARs will quietly sneak back on the shelves. BTW: I've never bought a firearm or ammo there. Their prices are too high.

    Ok Sig

Call 'em back. A different CS rep may have a totally different attitude. If not, ask to speak to a supervisor. If they're still unco-operative, raise 14 kinds of hell with them. They have to hear the wheel squeaking before they'll grease it.
  16. I would think that everyone had learned the lesson by now. Stock up and stay that way.
  17. I'd just take some appropriate grit emery cloth to it. All you really need is to break that sharp edge. Probably won't even notice it.
  18. I've mentioned before that I used to be a mechanic for my city. One day a couple of our officers were in the shop and the subject of firearms in vehicles came up. Both said that the vast majority of stolen gun reports they do had the firearm stolen out of a vehicle. Just something for you to think about.
  19. AMC has a real opportunity here. Leave Nick, Travis and Chis behind. Introduce some new and interesting characters, then kill off the rest of the losers. They can pretty much start over with a whole new cast while keeping the original story line. Of course, they ain't that smart.. So we'll just get more . Season three may be ordered, but I have doubts that it'll happen without some major turn in the second half of this one.
  20. Bad ammo does happen. I've spoken before of my late friend Bill, the retired LEO. Late 1970s, Key West, FL. I should mention that Bill was a big barrel chested guy anyway and at the time he was heavily into weight lifting and exercise. Pretty much 200+ lbs of solid muscle. Should have been a routine undercover drug buy. BGs had other ideas. They meet and suddenly BG #1 pulls a 9mm and shoots Bill in the upper left chest. Bill goes down, but manages to pull his gun double tapping the BG and ending his criminal career. Bill's partner deals with BG#2 with similar results, Bill is on the ground in severe pain, rips open his shirt to check the wound. Finds a big, nasty bruise, BUT the bullet DID NOT break the skin! As near as Bill could ever figure, it must have been a bad round. Either that or the Man upstairs was really looking out for him that night. Maybe both.
  21. Tennessee Valley Bullets, Scotts Hill, TN Jessie Clark - owner Excellent cast bullets. I've been using them for years. Accuracy is excellent and I've never had an issue with leading. I can't praise them enough. Jessie used to run the gun show circuit selling his bullets and other reloading supplies. You've all probably seen him at one time or another. He's since given that up, but still makes bullets on the side . If you're interested, send me a PM and I'll give you his phone number. Support our local boy!
  22. A good friend of mine used a 6" Model 29 as his EDC. He wore a belly band up on his chest with the gun under his left arm. Covered it with an ordinary shirt and you'd never know it was there. He was a big barrel chested guy anyway. He carried that cannon like that all day, every day. He could draw it surprisingly fast too. I
  23. The vast majority of the time I carry a Lightweight Commander .45acp year round. On my daily exercise walk I carry a Colt Mustang XSP. Same manual of arms, but smaller and darn near sweat proof.  Occasionally dress and circumstances call for something else. For serious deep concealment I might stick a tiny .25 auto in my pocket. yeah, I know. But it sure beats harsh language.  ;) For camping/hiking I prefer the S&W 696 .44 Special. Mid-sized, easy to carry and will handle most any critter I might run across. Two or four legged.  However, I will admit that every once in a while the mood will strike and just for S&G, I'm liable to reach into the safe and grab whatever suits me. It could be anything from a small pocket pistol up to a big bore N-frame. No particular reason, I just get that way sometimes.
  24. As usual with this sort of thread the conversation has wandered all over the place.  Getting back to my original question. My take as based on this and the thread at the other board is that if I was involved in a self defense shooting that was ruled as justified, I could still be sued in a civil action. However, such a suit is unlikely because few, if any, lawyers would take on the case because they would most likely lose. If it should manage to go to court, the odds would be pretty heavy in my favor and I would be entitled to recover all my legal fees.  Is that about it?
