  1. For me it boils down to when they take the firearms. If a person is flagged, goes through due process and is found dangerous. Then they can take their guns. However, if a flagged person's guns are confiscated first and then they have to go through the process, it becomes guilty until proven innocent. That I want no part of. Honestly, the whole idea of "Red Flag" laws scares the Hell outta me. The potential for abuse is mind boggling.
  2. Back in 2003 Hurricane Elvis taught me some powerful lessons. I'm not exactly the bunker and beans type either. But, if it came down to it, I can survive for a couple of months on what I have. So I can outlast most of my neighbors who will be starving in a week and moving on to greener pastures. That is if I can manage not to get murdered for my supplies.
  3. Very interesting indeed. Politicians and the media try to paint the U.S. as the most violent country in the world and all because we have so many guns. Truth is that we aren't even in the running. Here a mass shooting sparks 24/7 news coverage for who knows how long. However, It seems that in most other countries that a shooting will be reported on the evening news and then be more or less dropped. Public perception is everything. The truth doesn't matter.
  4. Firearms and hunting gear were never a big part of Dick's bottom line. These items were a very small part of the store. The one here caters more to soccer moms and trendy millennial sports team fashions than actual sporting goods. If Dick's goes under, it won't be because of gun policy. It'll be because they make stupid decisions in other departments as well.
  5. I forget where it was, but not long ago there was a school system that wanted to arm each room with a bucket of rocks.
  6. Honestly, I haven't been impressed by my S&W M&P Sport II. It only gets about 3-4"s at 100 yards. Its combat accurate, but ain't no tack driver. But in all fairness, I've only tried two brands of ammo. American Eagle 55gr and IMI 62 gr. I hope at some point I'll find something it really likes.
  7. IMHO the greatest guitar player ever. A great comedian and not a half bad actor. Back in 1985 he made a movie with Mel Tillis called "Uphill All The Way". Silly little film with a dumb plot, but the prefect vehicle for this pair. Watching Roy and Mel playing off of each other is hilarious.
  8. The tax is the little stamp pasted on the box. When I sold off my late friends collection he had a ton of loose boxes from case purchases. The case had a stamp, but the individual boxes did not. Since the cases had been opened and part had been used, I would be selling individual boxes. A dealer friend informed me that if I took these to a gun show to sell, all it would take is one sharp eyed LEO to get the whole mess confiscated. All it took was a simple call to TWRA, my credit card and the tax stamps arrived in the mail a few days later. A sheet of 100 stamps for $10. No problem.
  9. I remember that. I did try it. The stuff was awful! People were having fits. But it weren't no big deal for me. I've always been a Dr. Pepper man.
  10. Nothing but talk. We still control the Senate and even if something does pass, Trump won't sign it.
  11. I'm all for getting the mentally ill off the streets and giving them help. But these Red Flag laws scare the hell out of me. The potential for abuse is mind staggering. In this case, and I'm sure many others. the cops were probably more concerned with possible lawsuits than getting this guy help. So they cut him loose.
  12. An extended factory warranty is an expensive but worthwhile option. All of the aftermarket warranty companies are a total rip off and a waste of money.
  13. I just put each handgun in a Bore Stores pouch and stack 'em on the shelves. As long as you don't just throw them in there, you can stack 'em as high as space permits and never worry about scratches or damage.
  14. If you watched Talking Dead, you'd know that AMC has big, big plans for the Walking Dead story line. Rick may be gone from Walking Dead, but there will be at least one or more made for TV movies that will continue his story in the new mysterious location that helicopter was headed for. There will also be more TV movies showing how the zombie apocalypse has affected the rest of the world. AMC is planning a complete Walking Dead universe with multiple entries. As for the Walking Dead show itself, there's another time jump starting next week. This time its six years if I understand correctly. They're revamping the whole story line, making over some of the old characters and adding new ones including the new Judith. Lots of interesting stuff to breath new life into the show. It sounds really interesting. I hope they pull it off.
  15. An honest story about guns on the See BS network? I doubt it. Probably just piss me off. I might start to watch, but can't swear I'll last to the end. Besides, I got somewhere to be at that time tonight. I might record it, maybe.
  16. When a little more discretion is called for, I reach for one of my .380s. I happen to like them and feel that they are adequate for self defense. I don't have any experience with either of those, but if you like 'em, keep 'em. I also a big believer in never selling a gun you don't have to.
  17. I just had another thought. Why don't you take the handgun class with him? More quality time together and you can have protection when you're out alone.
  18. In the 33 years we were married, my late wife only bought me one gun. I dearly loved the fact that she tried. But I didn't like it and we both ended up feeling bad about it. How about this. The both of you go gun shopping together. Go to a range that rents guns. Make a date of it, try some out and have a good time. You do some shooting too. Then let him pick what he wants. Aside from just a gift, you spend a bit of quality time together. In the end he'll remember and cherish that day with you. Who knows, you might find something you like as well.
  19. A guy I used to work with is now retired. His "job" now is Church Security. At his church they have an organized team of armed volunteers. At least 6 at services and one or more volunteers in the building during week days. I've always admired Israel. They don't take crap off nobody.
  20. I believe just about any quality self defense ammo will get the job done. What I do is test several of the popular brands and go with what shoots and works best in my gun. Current selections are: .45acp - Winchester 230gr SXT .38 Special - Federal 158gr LSWHP Plus P ( the old FBI load) .380 - Federal 90gr Hydra-Shok
  21. When stationed in Germany there were several times when a bunch of friends and I hit the EM club and drank up all the American beer they had in stock. The cheap German brands they carried pretty much sucked.
  22. I read the book while stationed in Germany in 1974. I saw the movie shortly after I came home in 75. Great movie, now considered a classic. But it did leave out one small detail. In the book, Hooper slept with Mrs. Brody.
  23. I've been shopping 9mm prices recently. This comes out to 17.9 cents per round. That's a real good price. I don't think I could reload 9mm FMJ much cheaper. Plus I save all the time and work. Just earlier today I found the exact same ammo at 15 cents per round but the shipping cost was outrageous! So I passed. With the free shipping, I went for it and bought 1000 rounds. BTW: this sale ends tomorrow. Better jump while you can.
  24. Uninsured motorist insurance is needed because of all the illegals, druggies and drunks in this country. Many don't have a driver's license, no insurance, phony tags and the car isn't even registered in their name. Yet they have cars and drive anyway. One of my sons sold his old junker car to a mexican. A few months later, he got a letter from the Police dept saying that his car was in their impound and he needed to come get it and pay a huge storage fee. We did some checking and found out that the guy who bought the car never transferred the registration. When he had a wreck, he just bailed and hauled ass. The police had gotten my son's name when they ran the VIN number. We explained all this to the police and they said it was quite common. My son could have gotten the car back since it was still registered in his name, but didn't bother because it was wrecked and the fees were more than it was worth. BTW: there's a big black market among illegals for a valid license plate. They steal them off wrecks in junk yards and body shops and sell them to other illegals who need a valid plate for their unregistered vehicles. Never sell a vehicle with a valid plate still on it.
  25. Well Hell! The web site says the 9mm is out of stock now. Guess I shoulda jumped when I had the chance. But, I guess its a good sign when a new small company has a product that's so popular that they can't keep up with demand. I decided I do want one of these. Now I'll just have to play the waiting game.
