I glad to see Mossberg doing well and expanding its product line. But to me, its just another piece of plastic that I don't want. Meh.

Most likely a bad magazine. However, it could be a problem with the magazine catch. Being brand new, I'd take it back to the store and let them sort it out. What brand pistol is it and is the magazine factory original? Did it come with more than one magazine?

Will the mag lock in when its empty? Will a loaded mag lock in with the slide locked open? If either of these is the case, its probably just new gun stiffness and will work itself out. Most likely culprit will be the magazine. if the spring is stiff or the rounds are dragging, it may not want to compress quite far enough for the mag to lock into its catch when the slide is closed.

I have a couple of real good resolutions in mind. But I'll get over it.

Take the grips off and look on the grip frame near the bottom. . There might be either a "B" for blue or a "N" for Nickle. Many of the earlier guns were marked this way. JMHO, but I think that nickle finish is original.

I have a blue one very similar to yours. Barrel appears to be 5". My favorite length for an N-frame revolver. And YES! It is perfectly safe to shoot with modern ammunition. Take it out an enjoy!

I'm a 1911 guy and own a bunch of 'em. To me an entry level gun is a well made, quality G.I. type pistol without any bells or whistles. And then there's just plain cheap. There is a difference between the two. I'll go along with Rock Island. I own one. Decent gun, but I had to tweak mine a little to get it running right. In all fairness, mine is in .38 Super. I've never heard anything bad about their .45s. For a little bit more, you can get a Springfield Armory Mil-Spec 1911. A simple, plain jane pistol at a reasonable price. Well made, top quality and if you should ever need it, the absolute best customer service in the industry. This is what I recommend.

Trump administration moves to ban bump stocks

I wonder how many millions it would cost to properly destroy a few thousand bump stocks? -
Trump administration moves to ban bump stocks
Grayfox54 replied to The Legion's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Settle down folks. I'm against this as much as you are. However, the lawsuits will get an injunction to prevent enactment of this ruling and I believe it will eventually be declared illegal/unconstitutional by the courts. So everybody looks like they tried to do something. But in the end, nothing changes. A typical Washington dog and pony show. I suspect it may have been planned that way on purpose. -
I wish I could tell you, but I'm still experimenting myself. So far I've tried IMI 62 gr FMJ and American Eagle 55 gr FMJ. Neither was very impressive. I've got about 6 or 7 brands and weights on the shelf to try. But the weather and other things just aren't co-operating for a range day. I'm thinking the heavier 75-77 gr bullets might be the answer. But can't prove it just yet. I'm open to suggestions same as you.

How much? I wouldn't mind having one.

Wilson Combat magazines model 47D
Grayfox54 replied to tercel89's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I've been shooting 1911s for about 35 years now. I've used every kind of magazine from dirt cheap to top of the line. While some people love 'em, I've never really cared much for McCormack mags. The only magazines I use for competition or carry are Wilson Combat. Absolutely reliable. There is no better. -
My guess is that most people under 30, maybe 40, don't even know the significance of Dec 7. Schools don't teach history anymore.

I'm a big fan of Streamlight products. I carried a Stylus Pro in my shirt pocket for years at work. The color is pretty much worn off of it. But it still works great. I carry a micro-stream in my pants pocket everyday. Gives out really good light for its tiny size. I also have an antique Scorpion that so old it has a standard bulb. Still works great! I really aught to look into upgrading this one. And then there are TLR-1s on my house pistol and shotgun. I just don't think you can go wrong with Streamlight. However, about two years ago there was an ad on Armslist where I guy had 3 NIB S&W Tactical Flashlights at $35 each. I looked at them and was so impressed that I bought all 3 and he let me have them for $90. I don't know who makes these for S&W, but its a darn good flashlight. The strobe is absolutely blinding. I have one in the house, one in the truck and one in my emergency bag.

Steve Dickerson (R-Nashville) to Introduce Red Flag Bill
Grayfox54 replied to Garufa's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
For me it boils down to when they take the firearms. If a person is flagged, goes through due process and is found dangerous. Then they can take their guns. However, if a flagged person's guns are confiscated first and then they have to go through the process, it becomes guilty until proven innocent. That I want no part of. Honestly, the whole idea of "Red Flag" laws scares the Hell outta me. The potential for abuse is mind boggling. -
Shades of "One Second After" (book)
Grayfox54 replied to Jamie Jackson's topic in Survival and Preparedness
Back in 2003 Hurricane Elvis taught me some powerful lessons. I'm not exactly the bunker and beans type either. But, if it came down to it, I can survive for a couple of months on what I have. So I can outlast most of my neighbors who will be starving in a week and moving on to greener pastures. That is if I can manage not to get murdered for my supplies. -
Very interesting indeed. Politicians and the media try to paint the U.S. as the most violent country in the world and all because we have so many guns. Truth is that we aren't even in the running. Here a mass shooting sparks 24/7 news coverage for who knows how long. However, It seems that in most other countries that a shooting will be reported on the evening news and then be more or less dropped. Public perception is everything. The truth doesn't matter.

Firearms and hunting gear were never a big part of Dick's bottom line. These items were a very small part of the store. The one here caters more to soccer moms and trendy millennial sports team fashions than actual sporting goods. If Dick's goes under, it won't be because of gun policy. It'll be because they make stupid decisions in other departments as well.

Would You Prefer Your Hockey Puck in .357 or .45 ?
Grayfox54 replied to volshayes's topic in General Chat
I forget where it was, but not long ago there was a school system that wanted to arm each room with a bucket of rocks. -
Honestly, I haven't been impressed by my S&W M&P Sport II. It only gets about 3-4"s at 100 yards. Its combat accurate, but ain't no tack driver. But in all fairness, I've only tried two brands of ammo. American Eagle 55gr and IMI 62 gr. I hope at some point I'll find something it really likes.

IMHO the greatest guitar player ever. A great comedian and not a half bad actor. Back in 1985 he made a movie with Mel Tillis called "Uphill All The Way". Silly little film with a dumb plot, but the prefect vehicle for this pair. Watching Roy and Mel playing off of each other is hilarious.

Does TN have special taxes on Ammo?
Grayfox54 replied to ChanceMcCall's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
The tax is the little stamp pasted on the box. When I sold off my late friends collection he had a ton of loose boxes from case purchases. The case had a stamp, but the individual boxes did not. Since the cases had been opened and part had been used, I would be selling individual boxes. A dealer friend informed me that if I took these to a gun show to sell, all it would take is one sharp eyed LEO to get the whole mess confiscated. All it took was a simple call to TWRA, my credit card and the tax stamps arrived in the mail a few days later. A sheet of 100 stamps for $10. No problem. -
I remember that. I did try it. The stuff was awful! People were having fits. But it weren't no big deal for me. I've always been a Dr. Pepper man.
