This cartridge is screaming for a short, straight stocked rifle along the lines of the M1 Carbine or Mini-14. Maybe even a lever gun. A nice, compact, light, smooth handling package. I'd buy one in a heartbeat!

You could just put a pistol grip stock on a M1A and have a better rifle a whole lot cheaper.

Actually, its not that uncommon and seems to happen now and then. And usually, its someone that is very accustomed to carrying, such as a LEO. I'm sure you've all seen stories in the past about the Chief, detective or even uniformed officer who left their handgun in the can or elsewhere. The person is just so used to having it be there that they forget it isn't. Some years ago, the city I worked for did a blood drive. The Bloodmobile parked at a fire station and that's where we went to give. One of our female police officers finished up and I took her place on that couch. A few minutes later, I'm laying back there just chillin' and doing the thing, when I hear tires squeal as a patrol car comes flying into the parking lot. This same officer jumps out of the car, runs inside and walks directly up to me. Then, with a very red face, she opened the drawer under the couch, retrieved her service weapon and put it back in her holster. Neither one of us said a word as she turned and left. Hell, I'll even admit that a time or two I've been in a hurry to go somewhere. I feel the holster on my belt and figure all is good. But then I walk out of the house and realize that I forgot to put the gun in the holster. BTW: no, I have never left it anywhere in public. When nature calls, I put it in my pants where I can't forget it. Yes, its foolish, irresponsible and embarrassing. But sometimes you're in a hurry and miss a detail or two. Brain farts can happen to the best of us.

Will the washer for a Buckmark work? Same basic design. Or you could just use a regular lock washer, purple lock-tite or maybe trim the lock washer you found a bit. As for the trigger issue, I might be a broken or bad return spring. However, the vast majority of problems with semi-auto .22s are usually caused by years of built up gunk in the innards. Generally a detail disassembly and a really good cleaning solves the problem.

How many of you will get this one?

I found this at the Jackson, TN gun show today. A Model 15-3 2". The gun is easily 98% with just a very light turn line. Timing, lock up, etc are perfect. The action is smooth as butter. It shows very little evidence of being fired. It has a nicely figured set of PC magna stocks on it. Serial number dates it to 1972. I added the T-grip once I got it home. The price was pretty good for this gun in this condition. $475 OTD. I don't really need it. It was an impulse buy just because I didn't have one. But I like it. The bad thing is that with the way our weather has been and current forecasts, it may be Spring before I get a chance to get to the range to try it out. I'm afraid my poor photography skills just don't do it justice. It looks much better in person.

A double action rifle. I wonder why nobody ever thought about this before? Interesting and innovative. I'd certainly like to try it. The only problem I see will be all the semi-auto guys complaining about the long trigger pull. Where us DA revolver shooters could probably get used to it fairly quickly.

Just a suggestion, but you could fill it out using the name and address of someone you hate. Maybe a troublesome ex or jerk boss? Maybe a politician! Then answer the questions to make them look like they're one sick puppy. I'm sure they'll appreciate the $10 when it comes.

I've seen articles where people have reloaded aluminum cases, but I don't recommend it. The questions already brought up about the metal itself is a primary reason. IIRC some makers use an odd sized primer or Berdan primer just to prevent reloading. If they're trying to prevent reloading it, I'd take the hint. There's literally a ton of good, once fired 9mm brass laying all over just about every shooting range and its free for the taking. There's no need to mess with aluminum cases.

The Case for Continued Support of the NRA
Grayfox54 replied to Whisper's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I've been a member of the NRA for close to 40 years and will continue to be one until the day I die. They are the "big boys" on 2nd Amendment rights and likely always will be. However, I'm not at all happy with the current state of the NRA. They have become too tied up in the political game and they actually want to play it. The 2nd is NOT negotiable and never will be. Political games be damned, fight to win! -
Looking for .22 pistol/rifle competition
Grayfox54 replied to Dirtshooter's topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
Memphis Sport Shooting Association has a couple of different .22 matches. However, they haven't updated the calendar for this year yet. You might try contacting them to see what they have. -
Anybody in the Memphis area know a good independent insurance company that specializes in medicare plans? I've tried searching the web, but can't seem to come up with the right search words to find what I'm looking for. I know pretty much what I want, but I also want to sit down with an agent who knows what they're doing to discuss specific concerns, companies and options. Also, for those of you on medicare, any and all suggestions and advice will be welcome. Thanks.

Remember the evil white guy who shot the little black girl?
Grayfox54 replied to gregintenn's topic in General Chat
I see two possibilities: 1 Mis-identification. 2. The family knew exactly who the shooter was and threw the police off on purpose so it could settled privately. I'm betting on #2. The great race war has been coming since the 1950s. I've been hearing about it my whole life. Ain't happened yet. -
I glad to see Mossberg doing well and expanding its product line. But to me, its just another piece of plastic that I don't want. Meh.

Most likely a bad magazine. However, it could be a problem with the magazine catch. Being brand new, I'd take it back to the store and let them sort it out. What brand pistol is it and is the magazine factory original? Did it come with more than one magazine?

Will the mag lock in when its empty? Will a loaded mag lock in with the slide locked open? If either of these is the case, its probably just new gun stiffness and will work itself out. Most likely culprit will be the magazine. if the spring is stiff or the rounds are dragging, it may not want to compress quite far enough for the mag to lock into its catch when the slide is closed.

I have a couple of real good resolutions in mind. But I'll get over it.

Take the grips off and look on the grip frame near the bottom. . There might be either a "B" for blue or a "N" for Nickle. Many of the earlier guns were marked this way. JMHO, but I think that nickle finish is original.
-
I have a blue one very similar to yours. Barrel appears to be 5". My favorite length for an N-frame revolver. And YES! It is perfectly safe to shoot with modern ammunition. Take it out an enjoy!

I'm a 1911 guy and own a bunch of 'em. To me an entry level gun is a well made, quality G.I. type pistol without any bells or whistles. And then there's just plain cheap. There is a difference between the two. I'll go along with Rock Island. I own one. Decent gun, but I had to tweak mine a little to get it running right. In all fairness, mine is in .38 Super. I've never heard anything bad about their .45s. For a little bit more, you can get a Springfield Armory Mil-Spec 1911. A simple, plain jane pistol at a reasonable price. Well made, top quality and if you should ever need it, the absolute best customer service in the industry. This is what I recommend.

Trump administration moves to ban bump stocks
Grayfox54 replied to The Legion's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I wonder how many millions it would cost to properly destroy a few thousand bump stocks?
