  1. Because they're liberal and anti-gun. So they must proudly announce it to the world.
  2. I fear that this is nothing more than feel good legislation. Most local school districts will say no and in the end very few teachers will be armed. Too many hoops to jump through will discourage a lot of teachers from getting the required training. I prefer the idea of allowing enhanced permit holders to carry in schools as the bad guys will never know who is armed.
  3. That would actually make more sense. That way nobody could know who may be armed and in the school at any given time.
  4. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the local school district have final say if they'll allow their teachers to carry? If so, I doubt it'll happen in any large Democrat controlled city in the state. It'll only happen in smaller school districts who may not have SROs. But one of the main points was that less populated areas may only have a couple of Deputies on duty at any given time. As I see it, just passing this will act as a deterrent. Nut jobs thinking about shooting up a school will now not know who may be armed and ready to stop them. It could make them rethink their plan.
  5. Most any good defensive load will get the job done. But every gun is different. I suggest you buy several different boxes of quality defense ammo and go to the range. Whatever is most reliable and shoots the best in your gun is what you go with.
  6. The Ed Brown mag exchange program is still going on. That's how I ended up with a bunch of their mags. Basically, you send them your junk 1911 mags and they'll sell you theirs for either $10 or $15 bucks depending on stainless or black nitride. Over the years I'd collected a whole pile of junker 1911 mags. Sent 'em in and got a brand new mags cheap. Got a bunch of .45s and a few 9mm. Unfortunately, they were out of .38 Super at that time. But it was still worth it. So far they've been completely reliable. Good range mags. https://www.edbrown.com/magexchange/ But I'll still only use Wilson for carry.
  7. 2 dead, 6 injured, one critical. That's actually kinda light for a Saturday night in Memphis.
  8. Both of my sons started out on Marlin bolt actions. One shot at a time teaches the importance of sight alignment and trigger pull. The Marlins are excellent rifles, tack driver accurate and not too expensive.
  9. I've been shooting 1911s for a lot of years. Even shot IDPA with one for about 12 years. Lots of companies make decent range mags. Metalform makes Colt's factory mags and they're cheaper straight from their website. I traded into a batch of Ed Brown mags a while back and they seem to be good. Mec-Gar is known to make good stuff. But the only mags I'll use for carry or competition is Wilson Combat. The toughest and most reliable 1911 magazines you can get. They ain't cheap, but they're worth it.
  10. As near as I can tell, its currently in theaters. No date for streaming as of yet or which service it'll be on. I just don't think I wanna spend money and sit in a theater to see this right now. I'm gonna wait until I see some real reviews from regular folks. I'll still probably wait for it to be on streaming where I can watch it at home. If you go see it, be sure to tell us what you think.
  11. You guys are sick. I guess that's why I like this place.
  12. FREE: concrete Madonna Garden Statue. 36" tall. Its old, dirty and some of the paint needs touching up. However, no chips or cracks. If you want it, all ya gotta do is haul it away. Warning: its heavier than it looks. Just PM me to set a time to pick it up.
  13. I've heard rumors and seen a couple of clips. Unsure if it'll be any good, but I'll probably see it. If you're interested in that sort of thing, I highly recommend Kurt Schlichter's Kelly Turnbull/People's Republic series of novels. Great stories that could actually happen.
  14. Sad to hear. The Allman Brothers were always a favorite of mine.
  15. I'm concerned about this. I just turned 70 and am thinking it may be time to thin the herd. I have a large collection. My sons will keep some for themselves, but no way they'll want them all. I have been seriously thinking about selling many of them off. First to save them the time and trouble after I'm gone. Secondly, they could use the money much more than the guns. I've even considered getting a table or two at a gun show to expedite the process. According to this, I'm screwed. And that brings up another question, what about heirs who are needing to sell off an inherited collection? What will they do?
  16. TN_Jim has posted a thread in the Memphis Area Club forum with a time and place. I strongly suggest everybody interested read and reply. We've been trying to put something together for years. Now's our chance!
  17. I'll be there. Lots of us have been talking about this for several years. Here's your chance! I'm not sure if I'll do any shooting. I'm much more interested in getting to know other TGO members and talking. But I might bring a few guns just for show and tell. If I have something you'd like to see or even shoot, just let me know.
  18. I have one of the standard PI models and have been very happy with it. My only complaint is that the trigger pull is heavy. But I can live with it. When the LW came out, I seriously considered getting one. But I don't like the extended beavertail as it would dig into my chubby sides when carrying. I'll just stick with what I got.
  19. I also suggest that you buy ammo in bulk to save money. But be aware that right now most of the good Mil-surp stuff has dried up. If you do find some, make sure the headstamp bears the NATO cross on it. There's been some real garbage imported in the last few years including some fake Chinese junk bearing false headstamps. Do your research.
  20. I think a lot is going to depend on what happens in November. If Joe gets another term, gun sales are going to skyrocket as will prices. If you want one, now may be the best time to do so. But if you buy also consider going ahead and buying extra mags, ammo and accessories as they will also be going up if Joe wins. 7.62X51 - turning cover into concealment for almost 70 years.
  21. First off: its the Navy. Secondly: Its an officer. Neither of which require much knowledge of small arms.
  22. No doubt they failed as parents. But holding someone responsible for the actions of another? I could easily see this going all the way to to SCOTUS.
  23. No experience with the 10mm. But I do own 3 Rocks in other calibers. They're all good solid dependable guns.
  24. Most people don't realize that the 9422 is Winchester's top of the line .22. Magnificent rifles! I have one and will never part with it. If it was closer, I'd have two.
