  1. A bit off topic, but involves 3D printing. Adam Savage has a new show on the Discovery Channel called "Savage Builds". In the first episode he built an Iron Man suit by 3D printing the various parts out of Titanium. Very interesting and the darn thing actually is bullet proof.
  2. You're free to believe whatever you want. I live near Bartlett High and feel perfectly safe here. I have some rather strong opinions about Raleigh. But I won't air them here. No point to it.
  3. I worked for the City of Bartlett for 25 years. So I have a real good idea of how things are here. Bartlett PD is light years ahead of Memphis PD. They close cases and the bad guys know it. Yeah, we have our share of petty crimes. But serious stuff like armed robberies are rare here. And when they do happen, the bad guys do get caught. I can't even remember the last time there was a shooting, much less a murder here. Interesting story. A few years ago some guy robbed the Target store on HWY 64. At that point 64 is the city limit between Memphis and Bartlett. If the robber had stayed on the Target side of 64, he probably would have gotten away as MPD response time there is 30 minutes or more. Nope, this dummy crossed over into Bartlett. There we six BPD cruisers on him in less than half a mile. Bartlett is a fine town with an absolutely outstanding Police Force. I'm proud to live here.
  4. All you have to do is push the right buttons to bring up the call history. Only takes a few seconds. You were just in a wreck. You may be injured or at the very least shaken up. How you gonna stop them? And from what I understand, its completely legal for them to do that as part of the investigation. Can you site any law that says they can't? I'd like to see it.
  5. Most of the time these shootings are from one car to another right beside each other.
  6. Its become common practice for officers at an accident scene to check the time stamp of a driver's last phone call. Its amazing how often that time stamp matches the time of the accident. Personally, I like the new law. I can't even guess how many times my faster reflexes have saved me from an accident with some idiot on their phone. Happens far too often around Memphis. Pisses me off royally. This will be like the seat belt laws. Mostly ignored, but every once in a while the cops will crack down and write a whole bunch of tickets for a couple of weeks. Just a reminder to drivers that this is the law and to generate a little extra revenue.
  7. I just saw on the news that there's been another shooting tonight on HWY 385/ Bill Morris PKWY. That road seems to be quite popular with the shooters. No serious injuries. Driver got a few cuts from flying glass. No explanation given, but they did mention that this is the 27th highway shooting in Memphis this year. Actually, this is about normal. Shooter takes a couple of pot shots at a vehicle, but rarely is anybody seriously injured. Who can say it isn't? Maybe its just not as news worthy in those areas? Besides those people have strict gun regulations. They settle their road rage with tire irons and other blunt instruments. BTW: when I have to go into Memphis I try to avoid any major roads as much as possible and I'm always armed. My little town is right next door to Memphis, but its like a whole nother world. That stuff don't happen here.
  8. Well shoot. I just renewed my DL back in April. Its extremely rare for me to fly. Then again, if I was to decide to take a trip somewhere, I guess I'd have to get a new DL as part of the planning process. I don't have a passport either. I rarely go anywhere I can't drive to. I guess I'll deal with it when I have to. And all this because the feds have messed things up so bad that we now have to prove we're U.S. citizens. "Papers Please".
  9. I know for a fact that at Memphis Sport Shooting Assn non-members are allowed to shoot sanctioned IDPA matches. The entry fee is $2 higher for non-members. I believe its the same for any other type of match there. I'm sure other gun clubs have similar rules because the various disciplines want to attract new shooters. There may also be matches at public ranges as well. I know that IDPA matches used to be held at Range USA and the TWRA indoor range in Memphis. Contact the group you're interested in for local match locations.
  10. Guys, its Memphis. People shoot each other there all the time for no reason whatsoever. If you've ever driven the interstate around Memphis, you very quickly learn what road rage is. Terrible traffic, idiot drivers and there's always a construction zone making things even worse somewhere. I'm surprised there aren't more shootings than one a week. Just another day in the big city.
  11. I thought the TDL was already compliant. What else needs to be on there?
  12. Well once again I went to the NRA web site and tried to send them a message expressing my concerns. And once again, it would not go through. It seems that the NRA doesn't want to hear from us peons. Yet another reason I'm pissed off at them.
  13. Hickok makes a good point. We, the general membership, have no clue what's really going on at the top levels of the NRA or where this in-fighting is going. OTOH, I've often expressed my frustration with the current NRA leadership over their compromise attitude and just barely protecting our rights. I've never made a secret of that. Personally, I've never liked WLP. I've long thought it was past time for him to go. But then, as already pointed out, we don't have the details about what's really going on. And that, in itself, is part of the problem. Too many secrets and too much dirty laundry that the membership has not been told about. Whatever is going on, it needs to be dealt with and resolved quickly for the good of not only the members, but for every gun owner in this country. Edited to add: There are a couple of gun shows I plan to attend next month. I plan on stopping by the NRA booth and telling them exactly how I feel. I suggest that you all do the same.
  14. It seems that for at least three years a security guard at an ATF gun destruction facility as been stealing guns and gun parts. He got away with thousands of items including some NFA stuff. ATF Caught w/ Pants Down, Scrambling to Find Thousands of Firearms Stolen from Facility
  15. Just guessing here, but I wonder if they knew for sure he was dead and left the body in place for CSI and the Coroner to document? I'm sure we've all seen crime scene photos with a covered body in them.
  16. They were banking on Hillary winning. So I don't care if they went broke.
  17. My Father was there. He landed at Omaha beach with the 29th Infantry Div. He very rarely talked about his service, but one time he did mention that he had witnessed a landing craft drop its ramp right in front of a german machine gun. No one made it off the boat. I remember seeing the tears swelling in his eyes. A few months later, some where in the middle of France, german artillery damned near blew him to pieces. Nobody thought he'd make to the aid station, much less survive. But he did. He was a tough old bird.
  18. I happen to own a .22 suppressor. In all honesty I only bought it to help out a friend who had just gotten his Class 3 SOT. I hardly ever use the thing and its a real PITA to clean. However, I also have a rather severe hearing loss that came from all those years of listening to diesel engines. So I certainly see the good side of them too. I guess any hope for deregulation is gone. It never ceases to amaze me how when one nut job does something crazy that there is suddenly an outcry to pass laws to punish thousands of law abiding citizens who have done nothing wrong. So far there has been absolutely no proof what so ever that this nut actually did use a suppressor. Until there is, I call BS!
  19. No, I already have a mount ordered. I just looking for the scope.
  20. I'm planning on scoping a M1A. Now I'm not the type to spend more on a scope than I did on the rifle. In fact, I'm cheap. I thinking about something in roughly the $300 range. Also considering going with a 3-9 variable. I want good glass and it needs to be tough. I don't baby my rifles. Normal range will be 100 yards, but may occasionally be longer. BTW: I'm sitting on a Bass Pro gift card (birthday present) and I'd like to just pick something up there and use it to pay. What brands/models should I be looking at?
  21. The most plausible explanation I've ever heard goes like this: Aliens consider Earth to be like the Detroit of the galaxy. They all know where we are, its just that nobody wants to come here.
  22. In my life I've had run ins with two Psychiatrists. Both of 'em were completely bat poop crazy!
  23. The leaders of the NRA have become as bad as the congress critters on capitol hill. Greedy and corrupt. I've long been tired of their "compromise" attitude. It seems the dogs in this fight have been neutered. Its high time for a major overhaul.
