Well, its winter, I can't go out to play, I'm bored and all kinds of strange ideas are running through my mind. These things show up on Armslist every now and then. I think I'll just wait until another one pops up and make a decision then.

I remembered another one. The remorse didn't kick in until some years later when I learned what I had actually passed up. . Again many years ago at a gun show, I ran across a NIB S&W Model 520. That's a 4" N-frame .357 without adjustable sights. Just the plain old grooved top strap common on many fixed sighted K-frames. I came very close to buying it. Price wasn't too bad, but I decided that I'd prefer adjustable sights and passed. Turns out that these were special ordered by the New York State Police in 1980. Only 3000 were made. However NYSP canceled the order just before delivery. Word is that they decided to go with the then new L-frame .357. S&W then sold them to their regular distributors for civilian sales. This is the only fixed sighted N-frame .357 that S&W ever made and are now highly desirable collectors items worth lots of money. If I had only known then what I know now.

I'm thinking about getting a .22LR conversion kit for my M&P-15. I know nothing about them. Please educate me.

I don't have any problems with yankees that move down here to escape their overbearing northern state and integrate into southern society. However, I absolutely hate those yankees that move down here and try to bring the north with them.

This one that has always stuck in my mind. Back in the early 90s I walked into a gun show and one of the first things I spotted was a very scarce S&W Model 36-6 target model. This is a J-frame .38 with a 3" full lug barrel and adjustable sights. Not many were made. I almost snatched it up right then. But then decided to check out the rest of the show first. Of course when I came back by it was gone. However since then I have acquired a model 60-4. Same gun in stainless and my favorite hiking companion.

For many years my dream was to move out into the country. As a kid I spent a great deal of time on my grand parent's farms and loved it out there. But now I'm getting old, I'm single and my house is paid for. While my overall heath is pretty good, I do have a few issues that say I should stay fairly close to my many doctors. So i guess I'll just stay where I am until I die.

Congratulations! Education cost are a huge burden on our countries younger people. I'm happy for you. I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum. My credit rating has dropped a bit because I don't owe anybody any money. Makes no sense, but that's the way it works.

I had a .40 once. That was enough for me. Never again. I've never owned a .357 Sig, but a friend had one and I've shot it several times. Loud sucker ain't it! I don't have anything against it, seems like a good round. I just never developed any real interest. Besides, I have no desire to start loading a bottle necked handgun round.

Before doing anything else, I recommend trying some different ammo. I have a Para P-14 that was a little troublesome when new. But once it got broke in it runs like a top.

Exactly what do you mean by "nose dive"? Are the rounds hanging on the feed ramp itself? At the junction of the feed ramp and barrel? What make and model gun? Several possibilities here. Could be the feed ramp, the magazines, cartridge OAL or maybe the gun just doesn't like those bullets. Does it do this with any other ammo? Need more information. Pictures would help.

I've reached the point that I don't need anything. I have guns to cover all occasions. So I just buy what I like. Had to think about it. The last compact I got was about a 1 1/2 ago when I traded for a Sig P239. Everything I've bought since has been full size.

Yep, that birth certificate thing can be a real pain. It must be a certified copy or no joy. I had to go through that a couple of times some years ago due to me having a CDL. First time I went home and got my DD214 which DMV accepted. Second time I went to the Health Dept in Memphis for a new certified copy several weeks early because now nobody will accept my old original birth certificate that I had used all my life. Stood in line there for 2 1/2 hours.

No I don't. I stocked up on the Greek M2 Ball some years ago and still have plenty to last for a long time yet. So far there's been no need to reload.

Ok, this thread prompted me to dig mine out of the safe and take a pic. Yeah, I'm just showing off. TOP: 1942 Springfield Arsenal - I made a road trip to the CMP store in 2007 and picked this one out. Its a Danish return. It was classed as a field grade probably due to its really nasty stock. But the barrel and throat both gauged as service grade. As you can see, it cleaned up really well. Bottom: 1955 Harrington & Richardson - This belonged to my late friend. I have no idea where he got it. His wife knew I was a fan and offered it to me for what he paid some years earlier. I just couldn't pass that deal up.

On the ammo, commercial .30-06 hunting ammo is a little hot for the Garand. It can bend the operating rod. Many ammo makers do make ammo specifically for the Garand. You can also get an adjustable gas plug which will let you shoot the hunting stuff. While not s common as it once was, there's still some mil-surp ammo out there. Often already loaded in en-bloc clips. Speaking of clips, do you have any? If you need some PM me your address and I'll send you some.

I never got into casting. At this point, I don't want to. I have a friend who ran a cast bullet business for many years. For years I'd collect the old wheel weights from work and trade with him for finished bullets. These days lead wheel weights are all but gone. The EPA at it again. He's pretty much quit the business. Lead is getting hard to find and very expensive. Lead is now considered a hazardous material and there's a whole pile of new regulations regarding use, storage and disposal. These days he only makes bullets for himself, a few close friends and long time customers.
