  1. Simple physics. Big slow bullet out of a bigger, heavier gun has less recoil than a small fast bullet out of a much smaller, lighter gun. I've shot some pocket size .380s that down right hurt.
  2. Well from what I've read this guy makes Hitler look like a choir boy. He needed killin'. Its been said that he was in the process of setting up several attacks and that's the reason he was killed. My question is did they get him soon enough or are his plans already in motion and he isn't needed anymore? I've also seen some social media posts from ex-Iranian citizens who say that they're happier he's dead than we are. Seems he was the most feared terrorist in his own country. Oh well, Iran will pitch a fit, makes threats and shake their fists. But, I do believe they will think long and hard before trying any retaliation. If they do try something, you can bet that Donald will have our boys knock 'em on their butts again.
  3. xtriggerman makes an excellent point. If you want to carry a SA pistol and insist that it be a 9mm. you just can't do any better than a Hi-Power.
  4. I hope your not considering this as a profession. My younger son was an armed security guard for a couple of years after he came home from Iraq. The hours suck, the pay sucks, you get absolutely no respect from anybody and the whole world looks down on just another stupid rent-a-cop. Only the few folks at the very top of the company make a decent living at it. You're not a cop. You have no real authority, can't arrest anybody, yet you're expected to walk right into trouble. Not to mention you're expected to put your life on the line protecting somebody else's stuff. Its a crappy job.
  5. I've never made a secret of the fact that my first loves in handguns have always been S&W revolvers and 1911s. However, in the category of DA/SA semi-autos, my preference runs to Sig Sauer. More specifically, the older all metal Sigs preferably made in Germany. Honestly, the newer plastic Sigs do nothing for me and I have no interest in them. I currently own four. As you can see, I have a liking for the Hogue smooth wooden grips. I'm also a big fan of the Short Reset Trigger kit (SRT) and all my guns have them. P220: .45 acp made in Germany 1996 P226: 9mm made in W. Germany 1990 P228: 9mm made in W. Germany 1994 P239: 9mm made in USA 2009 I actually traded my way into the P239. Wasn't sure if I was gonna keep it. But all it took was one trip to the range to convince me that its a keeper. I also have a .22LR conversion kit for the P226 and its a hoot! I love it! Any other Sig Sauer fans here? Post your pics!
  6. They put me on Xarelto. Works just as good, but no regular testing. I already take a handful of pills everyday. I guess one more won't matter.
  7. This has been my primary carry for about 25 years now. For me at least, its the perfect carry gun. Its a lightly modified 1959 Colt Commander in .45acp. At that time there was no Combat Commanders, so all Commanders were lightweights. I bought it used at a gun show some 30 years or more ago. Frankly, it was a mess. I refinished it once myself, but was never truly happy with the results. So in 2010 I sent it back to Colt and had them refinish it. As you can see, 10 years of carry hasn't hurt it much. In recent years I've considered replacing it with a newer version. However my mods, although minor, do pretty much negate its collector value. Besides, its totally reliable, accurate and we're old friends now. On the question of wear and tear of everyday carry? I ask, how much is your life worth? As for holsters, I only use leather. I have no more use for a plastic holster than I do for a plastic gun. BTW: the leather gear in that picture is at least 20 years old and still in excellent shape. Its just broken in real good and very comfortable. Buy quality and it'll last. Honestly, I've never cared much for a 9mm 1911. Something just seems wrong about that. Almost blasphemy. If you're going to limit the number of rounds in the gun, make sure they'll do the job. Frankly, if you're going to carry a 9mm, there are hundreds of better choices with more capacity available. If you insist on a mid-bore 1911, I suggest to look hard at the original, the .38 Super.
  8. Its occurred to me that everybody is looking at this from the wrong angle. The name may be Python, but its a completely separate and totally new gun. Rather than judging it against the older classic python, we should look at it as a totally new gun and judge it for its own merits. I'm guessing that its probably a better gun. Its just not what you would expect a Python to be.
  9. Thanks for the support guys. I'm well aware how serious this could have been. Back in 2003 my sister threw a clot that got to her brain and killed her. I just never thought I might get one too. But then nobody ever really thinks something life threatening will happen to them. Aren't we all ten feet tall and bullet proof? The truth is that my overall health is pretty good. Aside from a few everyday aches and pains, for the most part I'm just fine. Nothing really limits me. But every now and then something does pop up to make you realize just how fragile your life truly is. Facing one's own mortality is a hell of a thing. Scares the Hell outta you. This is my third time and it never gets any easier. But I refuse to run scared. I plan on hanging around for a very long time yet. I'm gonna go kicking and screaming all the way to the very end.
  10. There's been a whole lot of discussion on other boards about the new Python for a while now. A couple of surprises for me here. First it was said to have a solid barrel similar to S&Ws L-frame. Glad to see that it is indeed to classic vent rib. Second, the MSRP is considerably lower than rumored. Estimates had put it at a bit over $2000. Very happy to see they were wrong about that too. I have no doubt that it'll be an excellent gun. However, much like the Cobra and King Cobra, its a completely different lock work trying to cash in on an old, recognized name. So it ain't really a Python. It just looks kinda like one. Very disappointed they aren't making it in blue. That always was the true classic Python. I have a few Colt Revolvers including a 6" Blue Python. Its a great gun and I've always wanted a 4" to go with it. But S&W has always been my go to brand. They shoot great and are much more affordable. I just don't shoot my Python much. IDK, maybe if they come out with a blue one I might get interested. But I really do want to get one in my hands just to check it out. If Colt wants to start bringing back the snake guns. My vote is for the Diamondback in both .38 and .22. I absolutely love the old "D" frames.
  11. I doubt anybody noticed, but I've been missing for a few of days. Been having some health issues. Christmas morning I woke up with a really nasty pain in my lower left ribs. Hurt like Hell. I managed to get through it with the help of some left over pain pills I had stashed away. Couldn't get a doctors appointment anywhere until Monday due to the holiday, So I just had to suffer through it. By Monday, I did feel a whole lot better, but decided to have it checked out anyway. So I go see my GP, he takes an x-ray and then sends me to the hospital for a CT scan. It turns out that what I got for Christmas was a blood clot in my left lung. The hospital basically shanghaied me and stuck me in a room for 4 days. Further tests find another clot in my right leg. Massive doses of IV blood thinners and now I'll have to take yet another pill for the rest of my life. I just got home a couple hours ago. Damned thing is that this is the 3rd time I've landed in the hospital in the last 5 months. Now I've had some health issues for years. That's the price of getting older and having beaten hell outta my body for most of my life. Up until now its just been an occasional Inconvenience. Now this crap is gettin' down right bothersome. Ok, I'll have to make a few life changes. But I'm no invalid and I'll be damned if I'll let a few health problems control my life. I'm still gonna go where I want and do what I want. Oh well, don't pay me any mind. I just needed to vent. Carry on.
  12. Honestly, I see the threat for Virginia to use the National Guard to enforce gun control as nothing but lips moving. I soldier not only has the right, but a duty to disobey an illegal order. I can just picture the Virginia National Guard Commander looking the Governor in the eye and saying "No." You may have noticed that when asked the Guard Commander has never made any type or direct yes or no answer. Only something along the lines of we'll deal with it IF it ever comes up. I think he's playing it smart and keeping his rear covered. Even if the commander was a political critter and actually did try to follow that order, would the men obey it? I think not. Nope, it just won't happen because the anti-gun politicians would, one way or another, get their collective butts handed to them and look even more idiotic than they do already.
  13. I've camped and hiked many of the parks here on the west end. Beautiful country, but suffer from legislative neglect. Budgets keep getting cut. So needed maintenance just can't be done. They try their best to keep up camp grounds and public areas. But trail maintenance is pretty much non-existent. Too bad the folks in Nashville can't seem to grasp what wonderful treasures our parks are.
  14. News on the good guy is out. For those wondering how he stayed cool and made that shot, he's a firearms instructor. I'm glad he was there. Jack Wilson
  15. Aw man, don't go there. On another forum the video had barely come out when a bunch of Internet "experts" started critiquing everything the security team did wrong. Muzzle sweeps, poor movement, lack of cover etc. Bottom line is the BG was stopped as soon as he got started. No further injuries. Nobody was shot by accident. Sure, they probably could have done better, but there's no point in bringing it up now. This was a win!
  16. The young suffer much in war.
  17. I've seen the Tennessee State Militia have tables at gun shows. I've never been impressed. A bunch of old, fat guys walking around in BDUs. But I'll bet that as soon as you join, your name will suddenly appear on a whole lot of alphabet agency lists.
  18. Scum bag got exactly what he deserved. You can bet the main stream media will bury this as fast as they can.
  19. My reloading set up is in my garage. A small heater keeps it warm. I store of of my components in cabinets. Including powder and primers. been like that for almost 30 years now and never had any problems.
  20. Get a dog. Preferably one of those really noisy ones. Best security system there ever was.
  21. Back when I ran around in that general area, it was mostly ridge country. Not mountains, but usually quite tall. Lots of long ridges with a whole lot of straight up and down between 'em. Small sharp sided valleys hardly 50 yards across at the bottom. What flatland there was was generally owned by the locals for farming, cattle, etc. But then, when the policy is to totally clear cut, even bulldoze the stumps and just leave bare dirt for aerial replanting with pine, it does tend to change the topography a bit.
  22. Well now that I've figured out where it is, I may be able to shed some light. About 30 years or so ago I used to hunt in the area south of Savanna. The folks there abouts were quite proud of the fact that their county had one of the largest land areas in the state, but also the lowest population. Most of the land was owned by the big paper companies. For just a couple of dollars International Paper would sell you a permit to use their property to hunt, fish, camp whatever. I went there during dear season a couple of times. Two problems. 1. if you found a good place and come back next year you'd find it clear cut plumb down to bare dirt. 2. After a couple of years, the paper company got fed up with idiots leaving camp fires burning and decided not to allow camping anymore. Much too far for me to make it a day trip, so I just quit going there. Anyway, after some thought, I think that property may very well have been a base camp/ staging area for a tree cutting operation. That would certainly explain a lot of stuff about the place.
  23. It was David Mosley. I was actually dealing with his wife, but she gave me their card. I mentioned to her how all the reloading guys quit going to shows. She said that they were getting back into it and intended to regularly start making the rounds. Of course this was at Germantown where the powers that be have decided that this was the last show to be held there. However, we did talk about Jackson and both are confidant that RK will find a new venue in the Memphis area.
  24. Last gun show I went to there was a reloading vendor. First time I've seen one at a gun show in a couple of years. I bought 5000 primers just because. There used to be several of them at every show and that's where I would stock up on powder and primers. Now you hardly ever see them. The powders that I tend to use a lot, I often buy the 4 lb can. One pounders just don't seem to last very long. Bass Pro here does sell reloading supplies. But its all small amounts. 1 lb cans of powder and 100 count boxes of bullets and primers. Rarely do they have more than one of each. You gotta grab those supplies when you can get 'em and stock up.
  25. This thing has been discussed on several different forums. I don't remember the question of legality ever coming up. The general consensus seems to be that its just ugly, stupid and useless. I tend to agree.
