People Getting Stretched to Limit. Credit Card Balances Soar.
Grayfox54 replied to AuEagle's topic in General Chat
Been there, done that. Once I was drowning in credit card debt. Its especially hard on young people trying to get themselves established in this world. The interest charges will eat you up. But many do it to themselves. They want what they want and they want it right now! I think all of us have had to stand in a checkout line waiting while the person in front of us tries multiple credit cards to make their purchase. Or worse are the people who buy little items such as one soft drink or fast food and pay with a credit card. That sort of thing adds up real quick. I got myself out of credit card debt some 30 years ago. Today I have one credit card and its used primarily for internet purchases. I also pay off the balance every month. For most everyday items, I pay cash. If I don't have enough cash, I just don't buy it. -
I've been very interested in these since they first came out. Now that they're doing them in Blue, I may well buy one. But then again, I may wait for the 5" in blue. Either way, I've yet to actually see one for real. Once I get one in my hands is when the decision will actually be made.

Can't see it from my house. Too much background light and too many trees. But the portable radio in my house sure knows the Sun is up to sumthin'. Lots of static and signals are breaking up.

I live in Bartlett. Cordova is common ground for me. I go through there all the time. Its one of the best looking areas in Memphis. The problem is its Memphis. The DA believes in catch and release and the police are incompetent and don't give a $#!^. The bad guys go where the money is.
-
I know that and you know that, but Cordova is a nice clean, upper class area. These out of towners thought it would be safer. Lots of people think that. But it is still Memphis.
-
I'm surprised at some of the responses here. Did y'all actually read the article? The National Hardwood Lumber Summit moved their conference to the Cordova area because they thought it would be safer. Yet 20 cars were broken into in one night. Welcome to Memphis. I agree, the person who steals the gun is the criminal. I also agree that you have the right to leave a gun in your car if you want to. But all you're doing is making the criminal's job easier. Common sense says don't do that.

Local news ran a story last night where the anti-gun group Everytown claims that according to FBI data Memphis is the #1 city for thefts of guns from vehicles. I'm not surprised. Memphis is notorious for vehicle break-ins anyway. I've been preaching for years to never leave a gun in a vehicle. This report confirms that. https://wreg.com/news/local/memphis-leading-nation-in-guns-stolen-from-cars-report/

Thoughts on NRA, FPC, GOA, etc
Grayfox54 replied to JohnSutton1980's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
SAF and FPC are litigators. They fight in the courts where laws are challenged or upheld. These groups are quietly fighting hard for our rights. Most people never hear about them until they make a major case. They fly under the radar, but hit hard. GOA is what the NRA should be. They're fighting in Congress and state legislatures every day. Not as big as the NRA, but they're fighting hard for us. I, too, wish they were bigger and had more clout. TFA is our home grown pro-2nd organization. I fully support them and their efforts. The NRA has had serious problems for many years. But Wayne is gone and there are a few new reform members on the board now. However, the board is still full of the old guard sleeze bags who only care about themselves. Gonna have to see how this plays out. However, as pointed out, the NRA is the big kid on the block. Even people who have zero interest in firearms know who they are. Right now they serve as the anti's whipping boy and divert attention from the real pro-gun groups. They're our useful idiots. So let them be. I do renew my membership as needed because a loss of membership makes them look weak and the antis will try to capitalize on that. I pay my dues, but not one cent more. Just for the record, I am a member of all these groups and throw in a couple of extra bucks now and then to support the fight. -
Contact local animal control and explain they're a nuisance. let them deal with the rabbits.

NY Communists-Senate-Ban Glock Handguns.
Grayfox54 replied to AuEagle's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Glock switches are becoming a serious problem. The Memphis Police officer who was recently killed, the shooter had one. There was also a recent story of a guy caught with 25 of them. More and more of them are turning up in Memphis. Local authorities are all bent and wringing hands over it. However, it just doesn't seem to dawn on them that possession of an unregistered machine gun is a federal offense with serious jail time. They don't turn these cases over to the feds. Idiots! But then most people don't understand that these guns are uncontrollable. They spray a full mag just somewhere in the general direction in only a couple of seconds. They're far more dangerous to bystanders than the actual target. So in typical political fashion, legislators want to ban the wrong thing. -
Never heard of it. Never known anybody who's tried it. Don't wanna try it. But I am curious. Just how do ya cook a cicada? OTOH there are people in other countries who regularly eat bugs. And according to the save the planet bunch, insects may well be the food of the future and end starvation.

ad closed Colt Junior .25 ACP, 1968 mfg, needs new home
Grayfox54 replied to Whisper's topic in Firearms Classifieds
I had one many years ago in .22 Short. Nice little pistol. Too bad you're at the other end of the state. I'd be interested. Its actually an Astra Cub. Imported and sold in the U.S. by Colt. -
Howdy neighbor! I'm in Bartlett. Welcome to the nut house.

New NRA board members are reformers
Grayfox54 replied to BigK's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Chuck makes a valid point. No matter how well intentioned, a small handful of reformers will soon find themselves treated as outcasts among the greedy and crooked majority who don't want change. Like many, I'll wait and see. -
free Free Madonna Garden Statue - Memphis area
Grayfox54 replied to Grayfox54's topic in Non Firearm Classifieds
I know we have a lot of good Christians on this board. Surely one of you would like to have this in your yard. -
Even if all you did was to deliver the gun, the time and gas costs would make it too expensive for anyone to afford. From say Memphis to Kingsport and back would be a two day drive and a whole lot of gas. Way too costly to make any kind of profit. In the past, some of our members who do travel a lot have volunteered to deliver a gun for a member. But I believe it was for members they personally knew and were friends with. That might be worth looking into.

advice needed Needing advice with purchasing an EDC.
Grayfox54 replied to Defunct Ammo's topic in Handguns
If the CZ-75 is printing, you have a holster, belt clothing issue. Good gear and dress appropriately will solve your problems. I's stick with the CZ over any of the choices mentioned. -
C'mon guys! We've been talking about this for years. Its finally happening. We should be able to get 20-30 people no problem. Speak up and show up!

Totin' Teachers Bill Heads for a Vote
Grayfox54 replied to gun sane's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I can only speak for myself. For 12 years when my sons were growing up, I was a Boy Scout leader. I was also discretely armed. The boys never knew it. My thinking was that these kids are in my charge and I have a duty to protect them. I hope teachers feel the same way. -
I dearly love the 1911. But I'm not a fan of the double stack style. Its heavy, bulky and doesn't feel right in my hand. I do have a Para-Ordnance P-14. But I don't shoot it much. I keep it because my younger son gave it to me and its a commemorative version for his service in Iraq.

Totin' Teachers Bill Heads for a Vote
Grayfox54 replied to gun sane's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I've been saying for years that the education system in this country is extremely liberal biased. Their purpose is to turn out stupid, liberals who's only function is to follow the liberal agenda. -
Totin' Teachers Bill Heads for a Vote

Because they're liberal and anti-gun. So they must proudly announce it to the world. -
Totin' Teachers Bill Heads for a Vote
Grayfox54 replied to gun sane's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I fear that this is nothing more than feel good legislation. Most local school districts will say no and in the end very few teachers will be armed. Too many hoops to jump through will discourage a lot of teachers from getting the required training. I prefer the idea of allowing enhanced permit holders to carry in schools as the bad guys will never know who is armed.
