  2. Good point. There have been large crowds gathering in Memphis over the last several weeks for a variety of reasons. Looks like its coming back to bite 'em on the butt. Memphians aren't the smartest people in this state. Today's numbers show 2,375 active cases in Shelby County. It doesn't say how many are hospitalized. However, adding 100 or more every day it could start to get crowded in our hospitals very quickly. I hear ya. I'm in the same boat. And after some serious health problems last year, the doctors now say I have COPD. The virus could be deadly for me. So I'm taking no chances.
  3. Shelby County (Memphis) has been steadily adding around 100 new cases per day for about a week now. The good news is that the death rate seems to be steady at only about 2%. I have to wonder just how many of the increased new cases are people who took part in the big protests that where happening daily for over a week?
  4. I've been kinda watching the daily numbers. Checking every couple of days on the U.S. TN and Shelby county. Ever since the partial reopening, they've been steadily going up. Especially after the many large protest gatherings. I'm afraid I see another total lockdown in the near future. This thing is far from over.
  5. Ammoseek.com shows about 30 or more places that have it in stock. But as Shorty said, it ain't cheap. Prices run from $0.75 to $1.63 per round.
  6. I don't spend a lot on range bags. I generally find the stuff in the $30-50 range is plenty good enough. To me the important thing is that it has enough mag and storage pockets for all the junk I want to go with the gun. Just measure your rifles overall length and pick one to fit.
  7. I've read both of those books and completely agree with you. My oldest son is diabetic. Dark stuff indeed.
  8. That's what kinda spooks me.
  9. I just recently finished the first four books in the series, so they're still fresh in my mind. Like I said the resemblance to current events is down right scary. Deleting/ changing history, hating people and historical figures with claims of racism. PC run amok. Its all in his books and then some. There's a 5th book due out soon. I had planned to get it, now I'm kinda spooked and not sure.
  10. I thought I'd bring this thread back up as the craziness that is happening these days bears a huge resemblance to Kurt Schlichter's "People's Republic" series which I reviewed just a couple of posts earlier. I mean its absolutely frightening how Schlichter's fictional dystopian near future of liberalism gone crazy is coming to life all around us. Schlichter has always said that while his novels are fiction, they are also meant to be a warning of just what might happen. I fear he is right.
  11. I love a happy ending.
  12. Interesting thread. I think I'd try to do things in this order: 1. Avoid if at all possible. Call 911 2. Leave if possible. 3. If non-violent. Try to wait for the crowd to move on or police come. 4. If violent, use the vehicle as a battering ram to make room to escape. 5. Fire only if absolutely necessary. I've never really thought about a dash cam. But now, I do believe I'll look into it.
  13. Give it time.
  14. Some folks store ammo inside the safe, others don't. Your call. I don't simply because I don't have the room. But if you buy oversized as suggested, I see no problem with putting ammo inside until you run out of room. BTW: get the best fire resistance rating you can. It does matter.
  15. There are many good quality safes out there. Just stick to the better brands and you'll be fine. Don't try to go cheap. Good safes are expensive. Cheap safes can be even more expensive if you're robbed. Ditto on buy bigger than you need. You will fill it in time. I also highly recommend going with a mechanical dial combination lock. Electronic locks have been known to be troublesome and batteries do die.
  16. I'll second the .45 Colt. Its a great cartridge and very versatile, especially if you reload. It can go anywhere from mild to wild. Properly loaded its suitable for anything up to and including black bear. I'm also a big fan of the .44 Special for the same reasons. However, guns to fit your needs in .45 Colt are much more readily available.
  17. If you shoot someone in the arm or leg, they're still capable of shooting you.
  18. Not that I'm aware of. Its a pretty quiet little city. I like it. OTOH: There was a shooting down the street from me a couple of weeks ago. But that was domestic dispute kinda thing and could have happened anywhere. We're not totally crime free, mostly just minor stuff. But its a hell of a lot more peaceful than Memphis.
  19. Some years ago my MIL moved up to Paris. My wife and I grew to like the area and considered moving there too. We talked to some locals and were told, "if you move here, you better bring a job with you. Cause there's nothing to be had." I think that still applies to a lot of small towns even now. As an accountant, you might be able to open your own office somewhere. But I wouldn't expect to make what you do in Memphis. I'd suggest you just get out of Memphis proper. Move to one of the smaller towns just outside the city. Collierville, Germantown, Millington, etc. That's what I did when I moved to Bartlett 27 years ago. I've never regretted it.
