  1. Currently I'm working on Texas Ranger. The biography of Frank Hamer, the man who killed Bonnie and Clyde. Amazing man with an amazing career in law enforcement. Waiting in the wings is Crisis, This is book five and the latest in Kurt Schlitchter's People's Republic/ Kelly Turnbull series. I reviewed this series earlier in this thread and every day its looking more and more that it could become reality.
  2. Ok, 1911 lovers, I got this in the Guns America email this week. Ed Brown Products is running a special promotion where you can trade in your old, crappy 1911 mags in on brand new Ed Brown mags. Just send them your old mags and you can get new stainless mags for $10 each or black nitride mags for $15 each. This is roughly half price. I know that many of us have accumulated cheap, unreliable mags over the years. Also some have just worn out, bent or been damaged. Here's a chance to put 'em to good use. I got to digging around in my junk and came up with 14 unmarked, no name, worn out old mags of questionable quality that I have somehow acquired over my 40+ years of being a 1911 fan. Honestly, I've never used the Ed Brown Mags as I prefer Wilson. But they do have an excellent reputation and they gotta be better than this no name junk taking up space here. This is a good deal. I'm going for it. 3. The NRA was originally chartered as a non-profit organization in NY state in 1871. The NY AG is trying to revoke that charter on the grounds of corporate corruption. Thus disolving the NRA. The NRA's Chapter 11 is to restructure the organization under a new charter in Texas. NRA headquarters will remain in Fairfax, Virginia. The only thing actually moving is the charter itself. Doing so will pretty much kill the NY case against it. Its strictly a political/legal move. Frankly, the NRA should have gotten out of NY long ago. Of course this is also a move to save King Wayne and his cronie's collective butts. WLP has turned the NRA into his own personal kingdom and cash cow and he definitely needs to go. However, the first priority is to save the organization. We'll have to deal with King Wayne later.
  4. Brad lived in California and was a lifelong environmentalist. He was sick of the world; of Covid-19, Brexit, Russian belligerence, China, global warming, ethnic tensions, and the rest of the disturbing stories that occupy media headlines. Brad drove his car into his garage and then sealed every doorway and window as best he could. He got back into his car and wound down all the windows, selected his favorite radio station, started the car and revved it to a slow idle. Two days later, a worried neighbor peered through his garage window and saw him in the car. She notified the emergency services and they broke in, pulling Brad from the car. A little sip of water and, surprisingly, he was in perfect condition, but his Tesla had a dead battery.
  5. Hmmmm........... That "ancient musket" sure looks a whole lot like a Browning A5 shotgun.
  6. It really pisses me off that the Confederate Battle Flag has been turned into a symbol of hate. I happen to be proud of my Southern Heritage, but I don't dare show it without people judging me wrongly. Another thing is the Celebrate Diversity thing. Be proud of your heritage, family history, national lineage, etc. Except of course if you happen to a Southern, White American. In that case its perfectly acceptable to discriminate and automatically assume that person is a racist, anti-government idiot. Equality is for other people.
  7. Its ain't just USPS. I ordered a book from Amazon last week. It was shipped via Amazon. Delivery was scheduled for last Saturday. It arrived late this afternoon. Between Sat and today, tracking just lost it. No idea where it was.
  8. I was just fixin' to post this. I saw it on another board. Yeah, a lot of folks seem disappointed that Colt may belong to a European company. However, its better than going to some huge conglomerate holding company that will just rape it and dump the leftovers. CZ is a gun company and a darn good one. Hopefully, they will keep making Colt firearms here in the USA. Heck, maybe we'll finally see a blue 2020 Python.
  9. Watch the video again. The glass broken out of the door was plenty big enough to allow that woman through. She was attempting to do so when she was shot. That was the final defense line and she tried to cross it. You can speculate all you want, but that won't change anything. That woman is responsible for her own actions.
  10. The story goes that the guy was afraid he'd be caught with it, So he shoved it in down his pants to hide it. Somewhere in the pushing and shoving, the trigger got bumped. ZAAAPPP!!! Heart attack!
  11. Damn! Sorry to hear that. prayers sent.
  12. USPS Tracking: 1. We have it! 2. Ain't got a clue? 3. Delivered!
  13. There has always been a lunatic fringe that absolutely despises the government and accuses .gov of all manner of improprieties. Unfortunately, many are also fanatical 2A extremist. These nut jobs welcome any excuse to parade around in public protesting while openly armed. They do more harm to our cause than good as they are not the image of the typical gun owner. I fully expect a huge crowd to protest Biden's inauguration. In fact, I expect that protests will force some changes to the planned event. For example, a change of venue or time. I also expect that anyone stupid enough to show up openly armed will be immediately arrested. Security will be extremely tight and the gloves will be off. I fear that this could be much worse than the Capital demonstration with .gov trying hard to show their strength. However, armed protests in all 50 states? I do think that's stretching things a bit. Also, have any of you seen the various stories and videos of the Capital protesters trying to get home? The alphabet boys had identified many of them in a matter of hours. Quite a few went to the airport to go home the following day only to find they were now flagged as "Domestic Terrorists", were on no-fly lists, couldn't get on the plane and various LE picked them up there. I would think that this would also deter many considering protesting.
  14. USPS is currently in the middle of a perfect storm. Covid-19, still backed up from the holidays and an idiot Postmaster General appointed by Trump last summer. As soon as Louis DeJoy took office, he immediately instituted "cost cutting measures" that have done nothing but damage USPS. He stopped all overtime, removed many sorting machines and public mail boxes. He changed many work policies. the biggest being that any mail still in the sorting room at the end of the day was to be left until the next day. As a result, the back log has built up something terrible. Many people believe Trump appointed DeJoy for the sole purpose of wrecking the USPS before the election and mail in voting. Not to mention that DeJoy owns millions in stock from other carriers that are the direct competition to USPS. If Biden does nothing else, I hope he fires this azzhole. Despite all of that, USPS is still and always has been the highest rated government agency in customer satisfaction. They move millions of pieces of mail every single day. And most of it goes off without a hitch.
  15. While not on your list, for many years my pet load in .357 with a 158gr LSWC has been 6.0grs of W231. Its a nice mid-range load that clocks right at 1000 fps out of my guns. Its pleasant to shoot and extremely accurate.
  16. I'm a long time member of TFA. Got my renewal notice in the mail today. Think I might send them a little extra too. I got a feeling they're gonna need it. I'm also a long time member of NRA, GOA and 2AF. We're gonna need 'em all in the coming days.
  17. I never have understood the whole social media thing. Aside from a couple of gun forums like this one, I don't do social media at all. I don't face. twit, or anything else. What info I do put on the internet about myself I'm very selective about. It seems that the people in this country, especially the young folks, are so insecure about themselves that they feel the need to put their entire life on the internet and seek validation from total strangers. How sad is that? And what does it say about the state of our nation? I prefer to be the Gray Man. Just easing through life un-noticed, minding my own business and attracting very little attention at all. I'm much happier that way.
  18. Local news say the murder was over a woman. Seems the victim was dating the officer's ex and he wasn't happy about it. MPD's reputation isn't that good. They do have some excellent officers, especially the older guys in the upper ranks. However, many of the average patrol officers are morons. Due to their own hiring policies, MPD has had to lower their standards quite a bit just to get recruits. Not sure if its still true, but at one point some years ago you could be hired with a non-violent felony on your record. Memphis also has a problem with officers using them as a stepping stone. A guy gets hired by Memphis because the standards are low and MPD will hire just about anybody. MPD trains them and they work for a couple of years to get experience and then move on to another department with better pay, benefits and a much safer city. They never had any intention of making a career in Memphis.
  19. I'm a child of the 50s. I grew up on comic books and "B" sci-fi / monster movies. Still love that stuff! These last few years I've been having a ball with the Marvel movies. The DC flicks aren't bad, but they take themselves way to seriously. I remember very well seeing the first Star Wars movies/trilogy in the theaters and what a thrill it was. This was way cool in those days. The first trilogy was great. The second was so-so and the third, meh. But at least it wrapped up the story. Rogue One wasn't bad. But as already mentioned, Solo just sucked. I don't have Disney, so as much as I'd like to see it, no Mandalorian for me. Honestly, while I do like Star Wars, I'm really a Star Trek guy.
  20. Talk about going whole hog!
  21. I love mine. I have a Para Ordnance P-14 and honestly, if it wasn't for the UpLula, I'd never be able to load a full magazine. The spring is just too strong.
  22. Thanks guys, I'll check 'em out. We do have News Nation here. I pretty much ignored at as it was WGN out of Chicago. I just assumed it would be liberal. Yeah, never assume. Guess I'll check it out too.
