Geez Dave, did I push a button there ? You seem upset. However, I'm not going to argue with you. I readily admit you know a whole lot more about this stuff than I do. I bow to your superior knowledge. I was merely offering the opinion of a very un-tacticool old man. But I do stand by it.

I just got back from getting my first shot. It went much better than I expected. The on-line sign up was much better than my try last week. I got an appointment in just a few minutes. Arrived at the site and Deputies were directing traffic on the main road. They have a bit of a maze laid out in the parking lot both coming in and going out. 1st stop: check appointment and give you paperwork. 2nd stop is a large tent big enough for two lanes of traffic. They let six vehicles in each lane enter at a time. 12 total in the tent. Here they take paperwork and give you your shot. Nobody moves until all vehicles are taken care of. Then all cars leave at the same time. 3rd stop: a 10 minute hold on the way out to make sure you don't have a reaction. Move to 4th stop: Another 10 minute hold and then you're done. The whole process took about 35-40 minutes. Most of it is just waiting to make sure you're ok with the vaccine and no bad reactions. I guess the state getting involved and turning over the vaccinations to Memphis was a good thing. Just a few weeks ago we were hearing horror stories of hours in line and not enough vaccine. Looks like its pretty squared away now.

Wonderful pistols! My favorite 9mm. Browning discontinued the Hi-Power a couple of years ago. Since then prices have gone up considerably. An average condition pistol now costs in the $1200+ range. You can probably find a .40 cal a good bit cheaper as they aren't near as popular. Honestly, I don't like the .40 and wouldn't have one. Along with the 1911, the Hi-Power is one of the most copied pistols in the world. There are lots of excellent clones out there. FEG, , FM, Kareem, Israel, plus several more I can't remember have made them. I've never heard of a truly bad clone. Most of the real differences are in the finish. You can find these at much better prices, but even they are going up. As for the Browning versions: The pre-war and WW II pistols are extremely sought after by collectors and very expensive. Likewise the "T" series serial numbers are collectible and pricey. For a real Browning, your best bet will be the MK III version which was the last. I have one of these and love it. I currently have 3 versions of the Hi-Power and love them all. Top: Browning MK III I bought new in the early 90s. Middle: FEG clone. Just as good as the real thing. Just not quite so pretty. Bottom: FM Detective Model. This one is the Commander sized version of the HP with a 1" shorter slide and barrel. These are scarce and prices are rising dramatically. I just lucked into this one.

I had a Savage 1907 for a while. Its a really super cool pistol. However, mine had such a horrible trigger that I couldn't hit squat with it. OTOH, If you weren't so far away, I'd be all over that Sauer 1913.

I've stayed out of this because I'm pretty much a non-tactical kinda guy. I can defend myself if need be, but I'm just not into all the bells and whistles. I like optics on handguns for target shooting. I have both scopes and red dots on several handguns. For slow, precise fire, I love 'em. Now I do have a slightly older Burris RSR type sight on the Browning Buckmark that hosts my suppressor. Hey. its great for accuracy WHEN I can find the dot. Honestly, that's the whole problem with this set up. Trying to find that damned dot. Yeah, I know practice, practice, practice. But ya know what? Not all of us are super operators willing to spend hours and hours running drills for what "might" happen. I got other things in my life to do. Where these sights truly shine is at longer distances. But let's be real. Odds are that if you ever are involved in a self defense shooting its most likely to happen at point shooting ranges where sights will be unimportant. And then, whatever happened to the wisdom that if the BG is that far away, your best course is to break contact and haul ass? Also bear in mind that we live in a world where people cut the spur off of a hammer or get melt down jobs in order to streamline their EDC and prevent the possibility of snagging. And yet you want to stick a big old block on top of your gun? Really? JMHO: these sights are just the latest, hottest, high tech toy. Everybody wants to be the cool kid with all the bling. Edit to add: An old saying that I truly believe in: Never trust your life to anything that requires a battery.

Yep, they left that rifle behind. The only thing I can figure is that the sniper abandoned it and they left it because there was no more ammo. Ammunition on that show is as scarce as it is for us now.

I watched it. Not bad at all. Maggie's back with new friends, Connie is still alive and two new enemies. The Reapers and whoever those stormtroopers are that have Eugene and company. They added 6 new episodes to season 10 due to Covid which is what they're showing now. Season 11 is still kinda up in the air. One of the new episodes is supposed to be Neegan's back story and how he came to be who he is. I'm looking forward to that one.

Ah! There's the rub. Associations don't necessarily speak the wishes of the rank and file. Most often policies are determined by a small handful of members who run said association. I'm sure there are many Sheriffs in this state that have no problem at all with Con Carry. But they won't speak out against their association because they may need something in the future. Gotta go along to get along. ya know.

I remember raising chickens from my time on my Grandparent's farms as a kid. They're stupid, noisy, nasty, poop on everything and stink. Plus they tend to attract just about every predator in the area. Everything from house cats to coyotes. I've known a bunch of people who've tried raising them. They end up giving away most of the eggs and quitting all together in a short time. OTOH, some folks seem to really like it. Just be sure if you want to try.

My most sincere condolences. Chip, if you read this: Sadly, I've been where you are. If there's anything I can do or if you just need someone to talk to, just let me know.

National reciprocity would be a good thing. It simply means that all states are required to honor a permit from any other state. Just like they do driver's licenses. I believe what you're thinking about is a National CCW permit. That would be an absolute disaster.

Mayor Strickland seems like a decent guy. Note that I said seems. The city council and pretty much every department are still filled with the same old crooks, buddies and incompetents. So nope, no real change at all.

That's all over the news here. So far one person has retired, another quit and the County health Department Director has resigned. But County Commissioners were already voting to fire her. I also believe one doctor has been arrested for stealing vaccine. A week or so ago, the county turned over control of vaccinations to the city. Try to understand how screwed up things have to be to give control of something this important to Memphis of all people. State investigators just keep coming up with cases of mistakes, carelessness, misappropriation and down right theft of vaccines. The list seems to grow every day. Just another day in Memphis.

Thanks Chuck. I could see problems trying to explain your gun to an officer in another state if you didn't have an actual permit on your person. I believe I'll just keep renewing mine. I do see Snaveba's point. There are a lot of really stupid people out there. It does worry me some that there will be untrained people out there carrying guns. OTOH, there are a lot of them out there right now. Many. many people carry guns every day without a permit. I've known quite a few myself. I think this may turn into a self correcting problem. Once a couple of idiots screw up badly and the news media blows it out of proportion, Hopefully other idiots will reconsider there choices or at least study up on the law and go to the range once in a while. Also bear in mind that no sane person, no matter how stupid they are, wants to shoot anybody. Honestly, I think the one thing that would be the best answer would be to teach firearms training, handling and law to young people in our Public School system. But we all know that'll never happen.

Leroy, I remember those days as well. To get my first handgun permit (1992) I had to write a letter to the Sheriff explaining why I wanted a permit, take a class, be bonded and even then it was only good in my county. Getting it was left totally up to the Sheriff's desecration. Fortunately at the time, our Sheriff was pretty open minded about armed citizens. However, in many counties a handgun permit was impossible to get because the Sheriff was against it and rejected all applications. As for the Tennessee Sheriff's Association, these guys are politicians, not law men. Never expect them to side with the citizens or for that matter, their own rank and file officers. They're all about the power game.

That's my question. Living here in the corner, I sometimes travel into Arkansas and Mississippi. If we go Constitutional, can those of us with Handgun permits keep and renew them or will permits just go away?

Interesting article. Reminds me of the old .38-200 British service load. That was simply a .38 S&W with a heavier 200 gr bullet. While seriously under powered by today's standards, the Brits used it quite successfully in their Webley and Enfield break top revolvers for many years.

About 7-8 years ago my Springfield 1911A1 developed a crack in the lower barrel lug. This is my IDPA gun and at the time had had an estimated 30,000+ rounds of hardball through it. Springfield paid shipping both ways and IIRC the gun was fixed and back to me in 8 days. I've also contacted them about small things for used guns I've bought. Such as a missing screw or the take down tool for my Ultra-Compact. Every time they sent what I needed at no charge and it arrived within just a few days. Springfield has some of the best customer service of any gun company. No worries there.

I must have missed that page. I was trying for the Greater Imani church as its only a couple of miles from my house. But now I see several more possibilities. Thanks!

I checked the website again today. I'm trying for the place that's only a couple of miles from me. Anyway, they had one spot open for tomorrow. I immediately filled out the web form and submitted it. Somebody beat me to it while I was typing. I'll keep trying, but unless I get lucky, it may be a while. In other news, Gov. Lee is highly pissed at Memphis. It seems that somebody screwed up big time and let 2400 doses go bad. A few weeks ago they let 500 doses expire. The state isn't taking over the job, but they are sending state health dept personal to "supervise". Of course Memphis and Shelby County governments are busy blaming each other. Welcome to Memphis, where government can break and anvil with a rubber hammer.

Its because the U.S. has just passed 500,000 Covid deaths. Biden's orders.
-
Not that I can find. It also appears that they only schedule one week at a time. If I'm wrong, somebody please set me straight.

They do make appointments, but remember we're dealing with Memphis here. There have been stories in the local news of very long waits and sometimes running out of vaccine with many people still in line. I just tried to sign up. But the actual registration page won't load. Overloaded I guess. They just started round 1B today. I'll keep trying. Just tried again. Calendar now shows all available slots are full.
