1. Car is a Subaru legacy sedan completely stock windows aren't even tinted. There's mixed feelings on the officers actions but how bout my actions, this was the first time I've had this happen, any thoughts?
 2. Allow me to clarify on my previous post. You guys that carry 1911 in .45, I don't mean any disrespect, a 1911 is just not the gun to carry for me. I'm not a really big guy I'm 5'9" and average build, not athletic or obese. I could conceal a 1911 no doubt. I love to shoot a .45, seeing the effects of the round on a reactive target puts a smile on my face. So why did I choose a 9mm to carry? I can shoot a .45 accurately and fairly fast, but I can shoot 9mm better. I don't wanna carry 400 rounds as a matter of fact I don't like carrying an extra mag so I can cram 15+1 in my pistol, if you could do that with a 1911 it would weigh 5lbs. Or with 2 1911 mags you can carry 14+1 or 16+1. I need all the practice I can get, I haven't been carrying long, I can buy twice as much 9mm for the same amount of money. For me a 1911 doesn't make sense as a carry pistol. I have seen several 1911s I would love to have in my collection. I'm not saying anyone's wrong for carrying a 1911, it's just not for me. But I will add that people who idolize 1911s without good reason get on my nerves.
 3. He pulled us over for speeding, my friend was driving, I was in the front passenger seat, our wives and his little boy in the back seat. We were all buckled up, the car doesn't have any tint on the windows. It WAS late like around midnight we were lookin at the Christmas lights, gatlinburg is about 2 hours from home we had just came from shadrack Christmas lights at Smokey stadium. no alcohol in any of us, none of us even smoke. I think that's all the info anyone would need.
 4. I agree with Yeager on 1911s I like to look at them, heck there are several I would like to own, but with modern ammo 9mm closes the gap ballistically plus I can hold 15 rounds or 17 with an extended mag not 8 or 9 with extended mag. I think Yeager says 1911s are inherently inaccurate, I disagree, cheap 1911s are more commonly inaccurate but I think with decent sights not the old gi sights they are usually accurate. But as a carry pistol it's not gonna be my first choice. I don't care a lot for Glocks, but they are an awesome (modern) design. We don't drive 100 year old designed cars or use 100 year old designed appliances, so my train of thought why defend yourself with 100 year old design handgun. If it works for you then train and adapt to it, I'm probably not gonna change your opinion anyways. But on that note 9mm is almost half the price of 45 so to me that means more training.
 5. My feelings exactly they have put me and my coworkers at greater risk of harm. I will not change my beliefs and practices because of this. I already spoke to my store manager and I said if it comes down to my life or my job I have to pick my life every time.
 6. Your right it would be easier to find a job that their principles or beliefs more similar to my own.
 7.
Maybe not, but they can take away your job.
If they really wanna fire me for speaking my mind then I'm not sure I wanna work for them anyways.
 8. So a report from the inside. AutoZone held a special conference call and I'm not supposed to talk about the incident but instead refer anyone to a P.R. number or email. I say screw them they can't take away my first amendment rights.
 9.
Yeah, I'm curious if he's also sworn as a deputy in TN, if not it would appear he may have violated the law by disarming you, since 39-17-1351t only covers state, county and local police officers. Not that it really matters, just pointing the apparent issue with the disarming... I'm not sure I would personally classify this as a positive encounter, but then again I've never been pulled over and disarmed.
From some stories I've read it could have been way worse, I'm an optimist so in my eyes I'll say it was positive.

 11.
Had the OP told the LEO "No" when asked if he had a firearm, would the LEO have dragged him out of the car and frisked him, or would he likely have gone on about his business? Since the OP was honest about it, I wouldn't expect him to be much of a threat. You all can cheerlead for law enforcment all you want, but I see this as nothing but intimidation.
My train of thought if I say no and he finds out then he's gonna be pissed and make life hell on me. If I'm honest and he gives me a hard time then he's an a**hole and I'll get my revenge by calling his supervisors.
 12.
The officer had every right ,and he was a complete professional ,with that said. If I were in the same situation I would have done the same thing. Yes officer no officer have a good day and thank you officer. It's always good to hear positive stories, cause lord knows we hear enough of the negative! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
This is why I shared with the group. I didn't think it would be such a hot button topic.
 13.
Just another question to the OP, was this a federal park ranger? Or a state ranger? I'd be curious if they are somehow cross certified as TN law enforcement officers, because if they aren't (federal park rangers), then they would appear not to be covered by 39-17-1351t.
He identified himself as being with the national park service, I'm guessing that's federal.
 14.
Law enforcement officers have the legal authority to disarm a HCP holder during a traffic stop. Got it. Here's what I don't understand: if an officer thinks the lawfully armed citizen is enough of a threat to prefer disarming him, why doesn't the officer actually treat him like a threat? (call for back up, take cover, weapon drawn and aimed at center of mass, short verbal commands clearly shouted, etc) If I were in the officer's shoes and were concerned about somebody shooting me, I can't imagine climbing into a stranger's car by myself to grab the handgun off his hip. I guess I'm just not that brave.
Sorry I didn't make it clear earlier he made me step out of the car with my arms stretched outward. While he retrieved my handgun
 15.
I at least hope you weren't carrying a Raven 25 or some such and got embarrassed. LOL
I wouldn't be caught dead carrying a raven or hi point or other cheap crap to defend myself and my wife. I carry a Sig sp2022 9mm it was the best gun I could actually afford.
 16.
why'd ya get out your drivers license if you weren't driving?
I don't know it stays right next to my hcp I just grabbed them both. The funny thing is the officer didn't look at either one.
 17.
I would feel very uncomfortable with someone removing my pistol from its holster and for pocket carry it would be very difficult. I'm just not comfortable with someone elses trigger discipline (or lack of discipline) trying to remove the firearm while still on my person.
One reason I like my Sig the double action triggerpull is weighted that you have to conciously squeeze it to make it go off I have little worries about removing or replacing it from my holster. I practice drawing and making that first shot. It's not for everyone I admit but I like it.
 18.
just curious to the OP, I know you were ready to present the officer your HCP, but you have no obligation to do so unless he asks for it. just wondering on your beliefs/thoughts regarding why you had it ready to present to him. . .
I know I volunteered information that I wasn't legally obligated to share. I wasn't driving so as soon as the car came to a stop I retrieved my wallet which is right beside my pistol and got my dl and hcp out so I wouldn't have to make that movement while the officer was standing there. I have heard about all the responses by officers ranging from keep your holstered and I'll keep mine holstered, to situations similar to mine or worse. I had nothing to hide and I believe that an officer should know I'm carrying responsibly(not just that I have a "weapon"). He did have an o #### look on his face when I told him. If he hadn't asked I may not have told him, but the first words out of my wife's mouth when the blue lights came on was you have your pistol don't you. She was nervous, she wasn't raised around guns like I have been and her dad never carried a pistol so this is all new to her. Believe me if he was rude to me or unprofessional about the situation I would be calling to find out who his supervisor is and try to get him reprimanded. I just honestly try to represent myself as an extension of the hcp world the best I can. I believe in honesty and last night it paid off.
 19.
You are correct that your at the officers mercy, and I'm glad he was a professional about it. That said, it still irrates me when an LEO feels the need to disarm someone who has done no wrong, and openly provided information about having a weapon and its whereabouts.
Totally agree. If I hadn't been straightforward and honest sure disarm me.
 20.
Sounds like he was professinal. That said, he has no reason, nor right to disarm anyone who is in legal possession of a handgun with an HCP. If he conducted a search due to probable cause, and you didn't have an HCP then yes. He is a public servant, not an overlord or sheepdog. Sorry for the rant, it just gets on my nerves that any police officer thinks hes safer by disarming the man who openly discloses that he has a weapon and an hcp. The guy whos gonna shoot him at a trarfic stop isn't gonna tell him he has the gun beforehand.
Please don't misunderstand my post as I'm not totally cool with being disarmed. I totally agree with you but in that moment you're at the mercy of the officer. He made a point to tell me I wasn't in trouble for legally having my handgun. He was professional and even let my friend off for speeding.
 21. So tonight My friend and I and our wives were driving between Pigeon forge and Gatlinburg. We were pulled over by a park ranger when he asked if we had any weapons I already had my permit ready and said yes sir I have my handgun and I have my permit. He asked where it was. I replied in my holster on my hip. He had me place my hands on the dash while he came around to the passenger side where I was sitting. I opened the door and showed him where it was and he retrieved it and said you not in trouble I just feel more comfortable if I'm the only one armed. He returned my pistol, mag, and round from the chamber separately. Very professional and courteous. So the reason I posted this is because of all the horror stories I've heard, I thought a positive one was in order
 22.
I actually took my Hunters Safety class in actual school. In 9th grade, Mt. Juliet Jr. High, it was part of our Health class. We shot right there next to the school. Now there obviously were many people that did not, nor ever will hunt but they did the same class, shot the clays, and were at least introduced to safe firearms handling and some common sense... 1992 doesnt sound that long ago but wow how times have changed. Mt. Juliet used to be a lot different and better.
Im pretty sure I took my hunter safety class around 97. I'm probably one of the younger guys on here.
 23.
I hope your boss does not see this, You work at AZ in Joyner and drive a Tacoma. Kinda narrows it down some.
Lol there is definitely no Az in Joyner not even a post office, I'm not the only person that works at Az that drives a Tacoma. Furthermore my store manager is an army veteran and the news story infuriated her.
 24.
Most of these rules state that they are not allowed to have them in their vehicle while at work and that's the reason we are having the fight in our legislature now about allowing employees to store a weapon in that vehicle while at work. Even if we get a good law passed allowing this, it will probably still be against company policy for the employee to remove that weapon for any reason.
Ding ding ding. That is AutoZones policy as well but I know myself and one other employee at my store that both have our hcp and we keep ours in our vehicles
