One last thing: Is a prosecutor chosing not to prosecute considered the same thing in this state as a ruling of a justifiable homicide from a jury or judge? I ask because prosecutors don't always pursue a case that they think they'll lose, and if their judgement isn't the same as a ruling, then the above wouldn't apply, would it?

Please don't take this wrong, (my LEO service was in Missouri), but considering my very experienced HCP trainer was adamant that you would be sued even after a righteous shoot, would you please give your source? I've been looking through the statutes, and I cannot find anything saying you were exempted from a civil suit. I am no lawyer, but it is my understanding that Castle Law is from Common Law, and the latter is superceded by Statutory law.

Do you mean like OJ? Yes, that's extreme, but the only time I was sued as an LEO was when I didn't do what I was accused of, and there were 3rd party witnesses who testified that I didn't do what I was accused of.

39-17-1307. Unlawful carrying or possession of a weapon. — (a) (1) A person commits an offense who carries with the intent to go armed a firearm, a knife with a blade length exceeding four inches (4²), or a club.

It was my understanding that Naifey (SP?) was behind driving the change while the Democrats had power. I understood that he was blocking changes that would allow carry in restaurants that served alcohol, and wanted to stop issuing permits.

I do not follow state politics, but I'm hoping that some of you guys/gals do to give an educated guess as to the future. When I took my HCP class in August, the instructor stated that there were concerns of many that the Democrat-controlled state government was going to do away with the permits or restrict them severely, so there was a run on permits before January 1st. Now that the elections are over, power has transferred to the Republicans in Tennessee. What changes can we expect for the HCP's? Will we be allowed to carry into restaurants? Any other changes?

I have not been stopped yet, but as a former LEO I would want to know immediately that I'm dealing with a legal carrier. My policy is to hand them my permit with my driver's license that I got out of my wallet before they exited their patrol car.

I carry my 9mm M&P sub-compact with one in the pipe at all times. The same would be for my .45 M&P if I carried it concealed. Since the 9mm has no safety, I'm especially mindful of that fact when holstering or drawing.

I'm an ex-LEO from 15 years ago in Missouri, and I do not pretend that Tennessee law is familiar to me. So with that qualifying statement, (both good and bad), what I will say is that to kick the door in requires breaking the plane and thus entry: however, you are much better off to shoot only if it's the last resort unless you have the money to defend your actions in ANY court. You are much better off, (financially), to scare them off with things like racking the shotgun. If you do shoot, make sure you are deadly accurate so that the BG isn't able to come up with some fantasy BS explanation that will create any doubt in a jury's mind during a civil trial.

It seems to me that their pat answer to any inquiries is that it was approved yesterday, and should be received within 7-14 days. That's what I was just told, and I put in for mine at the first of September.

I took mine from Ronnie at On Target in Murfreesboro. I felt like a H.S. graduate sitting in a kindergarden class, but I understand it was necessary because there were people there without prior training at all.

Guys, keep in mind that the experience that I had is 15 years ago. A lot has been forgotten, and more importantly, a lot has changed in that time. Even in the day I as a fair shot with my Glock .40 and Sig .45 before that. Today I'm lucky that I can still hit a bull in the butt with a bass fiddle! This sight looks promising. I certainly like the price better than the LASER.

I'm beginning to like my neighborhood now. Fortunately, the housing crisis has driven most of the gang members out of the neighborhood. It was because of the gangs that I got my M&P .45. I owned a nice Mustang GT with custom wheels, and one day while washing it out front of my house somebody drove by and yelled "Deuces!" out of their window at me. Although we had no gang problems where I was a police officer we still went through training and intelligence briefs, and that was enough to concern me to the point that I re-armed.

I'm near-sighted, so the exact opposite of you. Having long arms from my 6'4" frame it puts the sights right at the point where the dots are fuzzy. This causes me to bob my head up and down trying to find the right place in my bifocals to clear them or just be less accurate. Instinct shooting would be fairly accurate at the distances in my home, but would not be accurate enough in a more public place such as a mall. Some might find this paranoid, but I take heed of intelligence reports that say malls are one of the most likely targets for terrorists now days, and I think the divisive government that we have now will exacerbate that threat. I don't intend on me or mine being easy victims of either foreign or domestic terrorists. Since the 9mm will be my concealed carry weapon, I want the LASER sight for better accuracy than I'd get with trying the sights. Even though I was an expert shot with a rifle, I never was really that good with a pistol. I feel it's because my long arms place the pistol further away from my center of gravity which amplifies any movement. I use to tell people they were much safer standing 50 feet away from me with a pistol in my hand than they were standing 500 yards away from me with a iron-sighted rifle in my hands.

I tried two mutli-focals and two mono combinations.

Within 6 months. Contacts were tried and failed. The multi-focals slid around my eye too much, and the monos in a "one eye for reading and the other for distance" configuration drove me nuts.

I saw that before I posted this thread, and I thought the same thing. The palm swell on the M&P locks in at the top and then has a locking "rod" that extends through it from the bottom. The losing center is a bit disconcerting, but it may be the style of replacement. Thanks for your help.

I was a better instinct shooter anyways when it came to pistols, but I've been entertaining the idea of getting a LASER/light combo for the .45 and a Crimson Trace grip for the 9mm for concealed carry. I'm not worried about giving away my position because I wouldn't activate the LASER until I've already made the judgement to pull the trigger, and the light would need to be bright enough to dazzle the intruder. Questions: 1. Are the Crimson Trace LASER grips worth $240? 2. Is there something better for concealed carry? 3. What LASER/light combo is recommended for the .45?
