  1. What did we ever do before cooks had gloves? I was a cook in a pizza shop when I was 17 and a Howard Johnson's at 21. My hands were clean. But before I was a cook I did witness a part-time cook, (who was a full-time firefighter), drop some corned beef onto his open toed sandals and floor. He then picked it up and put it on a customer's Reuben and served it.
  2. Was. I corrected the post. My brain works faster than my big fingers.
  3. From a former LEO's perspective, the shoot was technically warranted. But one must look at the circumstances: people experiencing fight or flight experience tunnel-vision and focus their hearing on the threat. It is probable that the girl didn't see or hear the cop. Regardless of your age, you don't settle and argument with a knife because bad things are bound to happen to you.
  4. You'd think health inspectors would be monitoring them. When I was 19 I worked as the night manager for a convenience store in Kansas City called Quik Trip. They had ice cream/milk machine, I I had to drain it and clean it with bleach every night. The health inspectors made frequent visits to the stores during the daytime to take cultures of the machines. You didn't want to fail those inspections.
  5. Chick-Fil-A's waffle fries suck!
  6. LJS used to be very good. That was until their food became very oily for whatever reason. Last couple of times I was there oil dripped out of the fish fillets, so I stopped going. I have never like Krystals or White Castle. They're just nasty - unless you are drunk according to some posts that I've seen. Arby's now offers Crinkle fries that are very good. I like Burger King's chicken biscuits and burger with specific toppings, but nothing else they offer. Again, I only go to these fast food places when I want the food fast. I don't expect anything more than it be edible and make a turd.
  7. As a former LEO and martial artist who has used neck restraints countless times, I agree with the verdict. Once the suspect is cuffed and prone you release the restraint - period. With Chauvin's experience, he knows this. I watched the video screaming at Chauvin to get off his neck. He's getting what he deserves, IMHO. I don't think that the officers behind him are responsible, but the one who could see Floyd's face and clearly hear his pleas should be charged as he was indifferent to the situation.
  8. I eat at McChoke-N-Puke when I want something fast that'll make a turd. I don't expect any fast food chain to be all that great, but I still like their double cheeseburger, Big Mac, and chicken nuggets.

    Squeal!!

I especially like the dude's partner yelling, "Hey! Let him go! Let him go!" while he stood from safety.
  10. For some clarity: The vaccine doesn't give you a virus totally different than whatever it designed to immunize you against. Like all viruses, you either have it or you don't. I would be willing to wager that what they'll find is that the patient had the herpes zoster virus, but it was dormant, and the vaccine somehow prevents the virus from being restrained by the body's immune system. That is the nature of herpes after all.
  11. No, he failed to show for his hearing. No hearing = no resolution and therefor not being put on a prohibition list.
  12. He also fell through the cracks in their Red Flag Law.
  13. I've been on this position for quite some time. It is clear that what we are doing is ineffective, and that's got to change. If someone is demonstrably ill then sociecty should be allowed to force that person into mental healthcare as long as there are checks and balances in place - such as a panel of psychologies/psychiatrists that are independent of the institution that review cases. This would minimize the chances of someone who was been successfully treated from being held longer than they should be held.
  14. "Indianapolis Deputy Police Chief Craig McCartt said during an afternoon news briefing that police had responded to Brandon Hole's home last year and seized a gun after he was reportedly voicing suicidal thoughts."
  15. Now they are saying that he was a former employee of FedEx.
  16. Shooter is ID'd as Brandon Scott Hole, a 19-year old. Doesn't say that he has any link to FedEx.
  17. There are bad people in all professions, but should we throw the baby out with the bathwater? I would say that in the case of continual forced treatment that a panel of psychologist that are outside of the "asylum's" organization make an independent review panel to provide oversight of the system.
  18. I'd say a psychologist. They could commit for 48 hours or so for an evaluation, and then the judge and psychologist can decide to what extent it is needed. Mental health treatment is much better than it was in my grandpa's day.
  19. My maternal grandfather was a demolitions expert in the early part of 1900's. Amongst some of his work was the WWI War Memorial, Municipal Auditorium, and Union Station in Kansas City, MO. This was back when you couldn't get as far away from the explosions as you can now. My grandmother told me of his story just once. As the story goes, being that close to repeated explosions can induce a type of psychosis to which he fell victim to, and they committed him into an asylum in St. Joseph, MO when my mom was just 3 years old - about 1940. One day grandpa called grandma, (who was a nurse), and told her, "Daphne, you've got to get me outta her. They are going to kill me!" Grandma assured him that wasn't going to happen and to just relax and get better. The next day grandma got a call from the asylum to be informed grandpa was dead. They claimed that he slipped on a puddle of water and hit his head on the metal frame of his hospital bed and died. My grandma - unlike my paternal grandpa who exaggerated stories - was known to tell the God's honest truth. I have no reason to believe that what she told me many decades later was the truth of what happened. Regardless of the above, I think that it was a huge mistake for the Supreme Court to disallow the ability of family members and the judicial system to force someone against their will into mental health facilities when it is obvious that the person needs mental health treatment. We can run such places much better now, and should do so.
  20. Yes, I learned of this when we lived in apartments in Nashville.
  21. There is no doubt that it is. People post way too much personal stuff online - even if they think their privacy setting protects them, which they don't. It may not even be a "friend" but your friend might mention what you have in casual conversation to another, or overheard by another, who decides that they want what you have.
  22. Good for you. I don't trust that easy. People have to show me an investment in the group before I accept them - particularly at my house. When people have 1 or 2 posts and it's a for sale ad it's not an investment; it's sales, and it's no better than meeting someone from Craig's List.
  23. I, plain and simple, do not do business with new members on this forum. I do not trust those that become members just to sell ____. I look for members who actually contribute to the forum, and I get a read of what they are like. Those that come here to sell _____ do not care about negative feedback. In fact, I wish that Dave would constrict the ability to sell items beyond being a benefactor - like benefactor for a year.
