Trijicon has dropped a bomb on Aimpoint...
btq96r replied to dcloudy777's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
That was not their response, and the most certainly did not tell the .gov to pound sand (metaphorically, of course). They complied with the requested change of the contract, and promised that future deliveries would not have a bible verse marking on them. https://www.trijicon.com/na_en/community/whats_new_item.php?whats_newID=news_9 Trijicon corporate isn't stupid, they know their bread is buttered by military sales and exposure that comes through those government contracts to the US and other NATO countries armed forces. Protecting them is priority #1. -
Show Of Hands -- Who would prefer to use a Credit Card over PayPal?

On a site like this, there may well be a few people who's refusal to use PayPal may be the difference between being a benefactor or not. -
Periodic Physical Fitness Standards for Police & Firefighters
btq96r replied to btq96r's topic in General Chat
Thanks for the help. -
Put in General Chat because this isn't a debate thread over the issue, but rather a request for some help with a school project. I'm writing a paper on the thread topic, and need to include real world examples both in my paper for analysis and as appendixes (the actual policies) so I'm asking the TGO community if they know of any county/city/town in Tennessee that has a formal standard on paper that I can get a copy of for educational purposes. This is for periodic policies only, not cities that only require testing at the initial hiring. Thanks, folks.

This has to be crony capitalism rather than a socialist tax thought up by some hippie while picking arugula. Follow the money far enough, and I'll bet you find a person, or group of people, making a cush living though this non-profit organization.

Show Of Hands -- Who would prefer to use a Credit Card over PayPal?
btq96r replied to TGO David's topic in General Chat
I'm not in love with PayPal, but it's convenient at times. A direct credit card option would be nice, but if it's one or the other, I'm inclined to just say whatever works best for the site from ease of use, and probably more importantly, whatever takes less fees off the top, thus helping TGO stay solvent. -
Play around on the channel store on Roku. A lot of news services and media outlets have apps on Roku where they have segments loaded for streaming. SkyNews is completely free on Roku if you don't mind a British centric one for example. I'm sure there are others too.

Warning shot fired after road rage incident
btq96r replied to Hershmeister's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I'd have to flip through the TCA, but I recall being told in my HCP class that warning shots were a no-go from a legal perspective. In practicality, they can be useful, but only in specific circumstances. I'm not a big fan of them because of what could happen to the round and the responsibility therein to the shooter. I agree with OhShoot, they are basically slapping this guy on the wrist to do "something" when they probably could have gotten a big hammer to drop on him. -
The NDAA will be "re-done" to fall in line with the approved budget numbers. By re-done, I mean they will just change the figures allocated by line item. They aren't going to have to re-write it, or go through the legislative process all over again unless they want to. I think the CMP part will survive, but there is some, I'll call it vague, language in the bill that makes me wonder how smooth this will go: Subject to paragraph (2), the Secretary may transfer to the corporation, in accordance with the procedure prescribed in this subchapter, surplus caliber .45 M1911/M1911A1 pistols and spare parts and related accessories for those pistols that, on the date of the enactment of this subsection, are under the control of the Secretary and are surplus to the requirements of the Department of the Army, and such material as may be recovered by the Secretary pursuant to section 40728A(a) of this title. The Secretary shall determine a reasonable schedule for the transfer of such surplus pistols. Reading that and the rest real quick, I don't see who is supposed to pay for all of this. If I'm the Army, dealing with budget issues, I'm not going out of my way to make this transfer happen unless CMP is covering all the costs.

Sounds like the police chief in Texas is just being thorough. Good reminder to keep your paperwork from retail guns sales, and insist on it for private sales.

Thanks to the Internet, this countrry is in deep doodoo!

The middle east has a similar philosophy..."me against my brother, my brothers and I against our cousins, my cousins and I against strangers" or something to that effect. -

Remember that idiot in the local bar that would mumble about something or another, talking all kinds of a big game, when you knew full well all he was ever going to do was go home and piss himself, then come back and plant himself on the same stool tomorrow? As far as I'm concerned, that's the majority of the internet. Talk is cheap when you're on a bar stool or behind a keyboard. -
If this estimate is remotely close, than Gruden will be on MNF until they kick him off the air. I'm skiddish on Chip Kelly. Part of me thinks his college game hijinks are just falling flat in the NFL. Hue Jackson should get a good look. He's the Cincinnati offensive coordinator who took over after Jay Gruden left to take over Washington, and the Bengals offense has actually got a bit better since then. He did an okay job with the Oakland Raiders going 8-8, and I think it's fair to say he didn't have much to work with there.

Titans fired Ken Wizenhunt today. Can't say it wasn't undeserved. Question is who will be available after the season that can actually fix the mess that is the Titans. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/14042981/ken-whisenhunt-fired-coach-tennessee-titans

A vote for a Democrat is a vote against the Second Amendment!
btq96r replied to JohnC's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I refuse to be goaded into picking a candidate on one issue alone. The 1st, 4th, and 5th amendments are under some serious flak from both sides of the isle, and they are as important as the 2nd. As long as the House of Representatives is Republican, anything significant can't get passed. Since the House is gerrymandered for the foreseeable future, I'd wager we're safe. Democratic candidates can say whatever they want, they're just placating their electorate...they know they can't do much more than the current President has through EOs, and that they are loosing in the states and in important court cases. -
I get that it's possible, and would be a logical step...but I think rather they will use/manipulate the data to make HMOs seem like the bad guy through a PR campaign, then the "answer" is a single payer system like the UK's National Health Service. First they would need to discredit the HMOs and break their hold on congress though, hence the need to collect data.

Woe be unto you if you give Frontier Firearms negative feedback
btq96r replied to East_TN_Patriot's topic in General Chat
Never did business with the gun store you talk about, but that barber shop is legit, though. I used to go there when I was in the Army, and never had to deal with a horrible wait like some other places in the area. -
Depends which Mets team shows up. They've been Jekyll and Hyde in the World Series.

From the IRS website: The Affordable Care Act requires employers to report the cost of coverage under an employer-sponsored group health plan. Reporting the cost of health care coverage on the Form W-2 does not mean that the coverage is taxable. The value of the employer’s excludable contribution to health coverage continues to be excludable from an employee's income, and it is not taxable. This reporting is for informational purposes only and will provide employees useful and comparable consumer information on the cost of their health care coverage.

It was Qatar that he moved to after they offered him a scholarship, not Yemen.

I meant accomplish as in what does it materially do. It's not raising money for a good cause like the Fisher House, and it's not trying to reach a goal like cleaning up the VA. Veterans are being remembered plenty if people look around. Go to a sporting event and there is always some "salute to service." To me, it seems like it makes those doing it feel better than those it purports to help. What does the green light do that a yellow ribbon, or a "support our vets" bumper sticker doesn't already do? Does the hashtag upgrade it or something? People are starting to confuse awareness campaigns with real action, and nothing is getting done. As to the thread on reaching out...a place like TGO with real people offering someone to talk to can do more than half the country putting out a green light in support. For me, the real way to remember veterans is to keep the pressure to reform the VA, and to make sure they aren't sent to fight in stupid wars like you and I were.

This is accomplishing what, exactly?

You won't be able to view new plans until the "open enrollment" period begins. That's supposed to be tomorrow, Nov. 1st, but let's face it, it will be closer to a week later when the site isn't a mess. Dec 15th is the last day to enroll for the policy to start on Jan. 1st, 2016. The premium is going up on my current plan. As a percentage it's 37%, but in actual numbers it's going from $141-193, so compared to others, it's lower. I'll shop around for new plans, but since Tennessee didn't take the Medicare expansion, the options will be limited for my budget. Right now since I'm single and relatively young, I have the "bronze" plan, which is basically emergency coverage, with me paying for office visits, medications, ect. I'll see at tax time if I get any kind of credits, or what not.
