Not just that, but they double dip on the welfare gravy train by cashing in on individual welfare as well. Not like welfare recipients are holding a high month to month balance in the account, they're spending it as it comes in, and that's money business wants just like any other, just has a wait period to clear .gov processing before it hits the corporate account. Walmart comes to mind as the obvious culprit, since two years ago they had 18% of food stamp spending in the US, equaling $14 billion in actual revenue, and even went as far to warn shareholders about it in their annual report that cuts to SNAP would mean cuts to profits. Of course they need to protect that cash flow and are part of the lobbying crusade to ensure restrictions aren't placed on what foods benefits can purchase. Rigged system plain and simple.

Some theories hold that in the end, we're paying for social order, since a broke and starving person has nothing left to lose. Welfare as we know it may be nothing more than a tranquilizer. I completely understand you on that perfect moment after you send in your taxes, though. I was paid as a 1099 for over four years, and if everybody had to pay their taxes that way, there would be a revolt riki tik.

Nobody in that video was "in the right" as the kids like to say. It shows that welfare abuse and not minding your own business may well be on equal footing as problems in America today.

Assault Weapons Ban Before U.S. Supreme Court
btq96r replied to The Legion's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The case isn't going to be heard... http://www.scotusblog.com/2015/12/court-leaves-intact-an-assault-weapon-ban/#more-235622 Justices Scalia and Thomas tried, but it takes four justices to make the court hear a case, so presumably Alito and Roberts didn't want to for whatever reasons they have. Or one of them just didn't want to join the dissent. Lost opportunity, IMO. -
That's what I've done as well. Usually, I add a PMag or two to an order since I'm already on the hook for shipping costs anyway for something else I'm buying. Even one at a time, they've added up to a comfortable level with as much as I'm buying from Primary Arms and PSA. Pistol mags are harder, since I've always had a Walther and soon a VP9. One of the biggest selling points for me on Glocks (though I don't have one...yet) are the prices on mags from mass production.

Congrats, Comms! That little girl is already ahead in life with a father like you looking out for her. Nothing but the best wishes for you and the family going forward.

Oh, don't get me wrong, there is no answer...and nobody I've ever known has complained about having too much ammo after taking contact. But the weight matters when you're on the move, and if it's pistol or rifle rounds, I'm taking rifle every time. There is also a difference in what you're carrying on your person with your kit and what you're carrying in a bag where the weight is distributed for easier carry.
-
Interesting ratio of primary to backup. Even overseas, I never carried more than two pistol mags, the one inside the pistol included. Most mags I've ever carried on me for a rifle was nine, but I had more in a bag back in the truck.

With all the panic buying over magazines this weekend, I figure it's a good time to open a discussion on just how many magazines you think is a good number for each weapon. No right or wrong answer, but I'd be interested to hear your opinions on this. For me, the personal rule of thumb is ~15x AR magazines (currently have a mix of PMags and old GI Mags), three mags for my plinker .22LR, and around five magazines per pistol since I've seen those needing replacement the most. Reason being, I want a decent capacity, but don't want to get too pack rat like if it's time to move somewhere, especially dismounted. Ammo got heavy fast when it was on my gear overseas, and that was when I was in much better shape. But that's me...how about you guys

That's like saying you've never seen an Armenian or Israeli woman that looks good.

Earlier this week, I bought a VP9 from someone selling one on another website. Advertised as like new with 30 rounds fired, regular sights (which I'll swap out for tritium ones) and two 15rd mags for $520 shipped. Good deal to me, and that video isn't going to make me think otherwise. I'll be carrying it out and about with no worries.

Anyone else worried about attacks during Star Wars premier?

Never saw him in Moriarty, but I thought Scott was flat in Spectre. Just couldn't see him as serious in playing that role, especially considering who he had in the majority of his scenes next to him. -
Armed students at Liberty University?
btq96r replied to NextExit's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Also, not for nothing, if Liberty University wanted to take care of their students and provide them with a CCW course, they could. Under VA law...probably even charging them tuition or fees like any other class for it. So, let's see them put their money where their President's mouth is. -
Armed students at Liberty University?
btq96r replied to NextExit's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
How many no joke liberal students do you think are at Jerry Falwell's Evangelical Christian Liberty University where convocation three times per week is mandatory and creationism is mandated in the curriculum? Fair to say those who choose to go there are conservative by any statistical measure. Liberal kids do the same thing, middle of the road kids do the same thing. With few exceptions, they're still firmly tethered to mommy and daddy's purse and want someone else to pick up the tab. I see it everyday at the school I go to. However, these are the same kids who are going to come out of that school decrying the welfare state, yet at least 100 of them are looking for someone to subsidize their own CCW training. Muslims on the other hand are being demagogued for the violent actions of a minority who profess to the same religion. It's not apples to oranges comparison wise. -
Armed students at Liberty University?
btq96r replied to NextExit's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I meant how they wanted the class for free instead of having to pay for it like anyone else taking one for a CCW. Last I checked it wasn't something police- campus police especially since they specifically identified "Liberty police"- were providing out of their own time and budget. -
The only thing he stuck to was common sense from looking at polling within the Republican electorate.

Seems even conservative students are on the Free####™ bandwagon. -
That's a pretty good idea. If he wants to tacticool it up a notch for aesthetic value, plenty of products available from the usual suspects.
-
...then tell him if he wants it to shoot well, "cleaning it religiously" shouldn't be looked at as a negative. Direct gas AR's are his price range, and they get dirty. He'll have to deal with it.

Spots is spot on (see what I did there) with the distances and how easy it is. I did my class in the middle of the day in August, feeling like I was a melting wax figure with sweat in my eyes and shot in the upper 90's. One thing I'd recommend is scheduling your fingerprints in advance for a day after you finish the class and the DMV trip. Since you have to go to a 3rd party service (cost is covered in the HCP application) they may be booked up. I actually drove to Lebanon since the Murfreesboro place didn't have an opening for like 1-2 weeks or something.

Between Soldiering and contracting I've spent 1.5 years in Afghanistan, 2.5 in Kuwait, and 3 in Iraq. Sitting at my fathers or a friends half the time helps keep the miles down low. Also, for my 2 years here going to MTSU I live close to campus, so I walk to class and back most days.

Appreciate all the fine offers of help fellas, I may take one of you up on it. I've got a estimate request out to a service shop that I put in before reading all this, and also my father gave me something to think about. My truck is 13yrs old, about to hit 80k, and it's never had a real inspection/tune-up, so I may want to think about sucking it up and having it done so that it will last me for a good while longer. Might be time for some all around preventative maintenance to keep it running for another 80k.

Rethinking HCP carry after San Bernadino
btq96r replied to jgradyc's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Speed, audacity, surprise; use all three as best you can. They're expecting the crowd to run away in a panic. Don't do what they expect, and you can earn enough of an advantage to do what you can. -
Loved his music as a teenager. STP was, and still is a band I listen to often. I may have the VHS of the concert they did before he had to self-surrender for his jail sentence in the late 90s. I'll have to get it converted to digital format when I dig it out someday. Can't say this is shocking. He was stuck in the cycle of drugs that lifestyle enables. Sorry for his family, friends, and fans. This is one of my favorite STP songs. Not many casual fans would know it, but it was Scott's measure of therapy in dealing with his heroin addiction and bipolar disorder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUrk1lrGNp8

Trust me, you can laugh away and I'll not care...not that you would. I just came here to get some info since I know you guys a bit better than whatever a random Google search brings. For me, having a truck that has been paid off eight years, and is still a smidgen under 80,000 miles isn't worth the risk of screwing up by finding out how to do this from a YouTube video or something and getting it wrong. I'll give some business a bit of work to bill me for and be done with it.
