  1. Technically it's a shell, not a bomb.   Must be some kind of QA/QC stamp.  Wonder if "2-18" means Feb. 1918 as the date when it passed inspection and was added to an armory somewhere.  That would make it a rifle made during the ramp up in production during the WWI.  Very cool indeed if that's the case.
  2. Complete lack of discipline and safety.  If you can't handle an M&P you shouldn't be carrying firearms for a job.  That gun does not a hare-trigger in the least.
  3. Keep the outer coat open, have layers underneath it (I like a fleece vest personally) and wear the holster on the strong side front (2 o'clock-ish), or in a cross draw setup on the weak side at more than a 45° angle so the butt of the pistol is clearly visible.
  4. This was my backyard after the rain this morning. I've lived in my current abode for just over two years, and this much water staying above ground in that spot is a new one for me. I didn't measure the buildup, but I'd imagine it's above the ankle in depth.
  5.   Sounds a lot like what the ramp agent in your story did.  She assumed that the family and those kids celebrated Christmas just like she does, and her embarrassment sounds about right as to what people get for assuming things.
  6. Brandi Carlile does my favorite cover, she performed it as an encore the few times I've seen her live. The girl has some pipes that's for sure. ...and thank you for the kind words. 7.   Part of me thinks that Pete is genetically incapable of doing that.
  8.   Guess we're stuck debating each other for a while now!   Congrats on your good fortune.  Same to the other winners.  TDR and others, good thing you all did here.
  9.   Resale of stolen propane when winter is coming...makes too much sense on its own, so it must be terrorism.
  10. Best wishes for a Happy Christmas for those of you celebrating it with friends and family today.  I may not like what our society makes this day out to be, but I know how deeply held it is to many and despite my protestations in general, I do genuinely hope that it's a positive day that reminds you what really matters in your life if you're celebrating it.   For those getting their Christmas dinner from a mermite flown or trucked in by the military supply chain- thank you for standing your watch.  I've been there and know what it can do to your mindset and hope you make it back soon.  But I also know that a Christmas overseas can be something special in its own right.  It was always one of those "whatever you make of it" situations.   For myself, I'm hoping that a Chinese restaurant is open somewhere in town, and that the Warriors/Cavs & Rockets/Spurs games are as good as advertised.          The music is the same, but that's about it.  I wouldn't even call it a version of the song since Cloverton completely changed the meaning of it by turning it into a telling about the biblical version of Jesus' birth.   Cohen wrote a song about struggle (I did my best, it wasn't much)' doubt (Your faith was strong but you needed proof); and how even the individual meaning of the word Hallelujah is open to interpenetration (It doesn't matter which you heard/The holy or the broken Hallelujah).  Completely different context I'd say.  I used the 1984 lyrics from the Various Positions album, since that's my favorite version, but the '88 one is generally the same meaning.  I'd pay real money to get my hands on the 80 some verses Cohen originally wrote just to see how the song itself evolved.
  11. The Russians in Stalingrad had two big advantages- manpower and weather- to leverage in the defensive battle they waged.       I'd argue that with the USA and USSR each waging a campaign, economy of scale would have caught up to Germany under any scenario that didn't involve Germany getting the bomb first.       I can't buy what you're selling here.    General Ridgeway was just as good a commander for the fight in Korea as General MacArthur in my estimation.  Once the Chinese entered the war, they had the bodies to throw into the grinder to force a stalemate, as we were unwilling to fight a harder war so soon after WWII, and while we were keeping lots of troops in Europe to safeguard countries from Soviet expansion.    Vietnam was unwinnable regardless of what we could have done militarily when you take into account that the government was completely corrupt and never had the will of the people behind it, thus dooming it to collapse.  The military campaigns were holding actions the political situation that should have had us think twice before getting involved.  This repeated itself in Iraq in a similar fashion.   In the Gulf War, ejecting the Iraqi Army from Kuwait was all we set out to do (and had collation support for), and doing more wasn't in the marching orders.  We didn't "stand down at the city limits of Baghdad" we were standing fast in parts of Southern Iraq when the ceasefire took effect.
  12.   Not to mention, our honoring Virginia permits is a good thing for the tourism industry in the Gatlinburg area.  I know every time I spend some time in a cabin up there I take a sidearm with me.  I can imagine those making the very manageable drive for a vacation from Virginia to the Smokey Mountains would want to bring their own weapon with them to protect their family.  We should continue to allow them to do.
  13. You want men to stop grumbling to fellow men about how the intricacies of marital finances limit what guns they can get and when.  Yeah, I don't see that happening.  I'm sure if you go far back enough, you'd see something on the subject written as an epitaph on a Roman tombstone.   As to the whole what calibers women can shoot and all that...if the don't want the LGS salesman driving them towards .380 or 9mm, they need to remember the customer is always right.  Tell the guy you want to see the .45's or 10mm's, and if they make an ass out of themselves, ladies can take their business elsewhere.  Word will get out on who treats their customers with respect and who treats them as fragile little things that need a man to keep a hand on their back as they shoot.       "I'd just like to say that most of us begin life suckling on a breast. If we’re lucky we end life suckling on a breast.  So anybody who’s against breasts is against life itself." -Denny Crane
  14. Sirens going off in Murfreesboro like Luftwaffe Stukas are inbound. I think I'll still head to the movies if they aren't closing early.
  15. Seems Darwin took off on an end of year vacation early.  About the only reason I can think that these dipsticks stayed vertical the entire video.   Also, "Part 2" which is really just the first video with added footage of them being attention whores out on the town in that 30min wait and going back at 12:30pm is just as stupid.
  16. This is getting ridiculous. If the rain lets up sometime, I'm going to have to mow my lawn during the last week of December. I hope we get a Nor'Easter or two as compensation. I'd love to see people here deal with one of those.
  17.   It is.  General Chat's just become akin to the area around the front door where people just drop things on their way in.
  18. Seems the Jade Helm budget didn't include money for a digital scanner. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk, because I felt that Oh Shoot wanted to know that particular bit of information.
  19. I use an old ammo can to carry boxed or loose rounds to the range, as well as store cleaning supplies and a leatherman.  A bag could do just as good, but my ammo can laying on its side, with a sandbag rest on top of it is the perfect height for a makeshift rifle support.   As to filled magazines, bandolier's are pretty good for holding them.  The ones they issued when the Army fielded MOLLE gear held six mags and can be had for relatively cheap.  One in the house, one in the truck, one in the go-bag...they make a good way to have six mags ready to supplement the one in your rifle as you go about your day.
  20. TDR gets the reward of a good deed, the site gets some financial support, and a few lucky guys get benefactor benefits.  Sounds like a triple win to me.
  21. I have self-defense as the primary reason, but I also very much enjoy shooting for my personal enjoyment.  My guns are bought with a combination of both in mind, but I don't have a gun I couldn't use in some self-defense scenario and doubt I'll ever buy one that couldn't fit a role for that need somewhere.
  22. I can't say I've been offended per say by someone saying "Merry Christmas" to me, but I do find it equal parts amusing, arrogant, and ignorant that someone would have a baseline assumption that I celebrate the holiday for religious or secular reasons before taking the time to actually find out.  I'd imagine that the feeling would be mutual if said person was forced to have multiple people wishing them the traditional greeting of a major religious or cultural holiday that they had no desire to partake in.   That said, friend and stranger alike who celebrate Christmas for whatever personal reasons, I do genuinely hope they have a good one, and enjoy the time with family and friends.  But when it comes to involving me, Bah Humbug and all that.

  24. How is this linked back to President Obama?  That article just dropped his name as a dog whistle to piss off gun owners, which is status quo for these hack jobs.   The isn't any open investigation by the SEC, just a highly publicized request from the New York City Public Advocate (apparently that's a real job) to start one.  And it seems like a part of a multi-pronged attack since they are taking other actions to hurt S&W financially.  I doubt either gains much traction since they come from an office with no real power other than to hold press conferences and sue businesses within New York City.  The SEC has far more important matters on its plate and not enough staff to get it done, and banks don't drop accounts as big as S&W without good reason.   If I had to guess, I'd say stocks are taking a hit because of short sellers.  They looked at trends of how S&W stock does when guns are in the news, bought when San Bernardino came around, then sold after making a profit before things returned to normal.  Looking at the stock and pointing out the dates of the shootings, then the oval office address would support that.   But yeah, the President isn't even close to involved in this.
  25. You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din! I figure I'll keep this till at least the new year. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk, because I felt that Oh Shoot wanted to know that particular bit of information.
