After reading this thread, I'd love to see what a TGO Caucus would be like.

No Gun Signs Coming Down at Legislative Plaza
btq96r replied to 300winmag's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I can only imagine how often the signs would be ignored if there isn't that legal consequence behind them, and I don't like the idea of that. Permit holders want the criminal charges removed so they can ignore the signs by carrying concealed and not be subject to a fine, or worse, losing their permit for it. And 99.9% of the time they would get away with it, nobody would be the wiser, and life would go on. But I still think it's wrong, and a violation of property rights. I want a stricter legal standard placed on HCP holders. With off duty police, they are in a special situation where they could be called into work, or in a position to take charge of a crime scene, so that's why they get the exception. Retired LEO's shouldn't get any special exemptions at all, and same with prison guards, off duty or retired. I'm all in favor of HCP holders being able to carry inside any government building, to include city hall, courthouses, legislative plaza, and yes public schools. Now if someone doesn't have an HCP and decides to carry, then they're in violation of the law, and should be prosecuted accordingly. I'm just on the side of private property owners with this one, and since a firearm is involved, the force of law and threat of punishment should be applicable. -

Like I said, I want the force of law behind a no-gun sign, otherwise even the law abiding gun owners will just ignore it. But I get that's probably not the popular opinion here. -

The properly posted sign is the notice not to even come in with a gun, so why would they need an additional notice to leave? -

Concur that the malls suck on posting properly. It should be a clear sign, at every entrance, 100% compliance, or you can't charge someone who comes in an improperly posted door. But if the posting standard is met, I do think there should be a criminal charge because there is a firearm involved, and I have no problem putting standards on those carrying. We should be able to meet them with no issue. Right now, it's the criminal charge, and the threat of losing your permit that keeps people from carrying past the signs...for the most part. If we remove the criminal charge, and make it trespassing only, then how many people do you think would just conceal carry, and ignore what they see, simultaneously ignoring the intent along with it. -

Since most hospitals are either a private businesses, or funded through churches and set up as non-profit organizations I'd have to say leave it as their call. So, I'd want to respect their wishes, even if their wish was nobody comes in armed aside from their own security. In the case of religious funded non-profit hospitals, forcing them to allow weapons against their principles could be a slippery slope since they are recognized as non-profit organizations. Even hospitals are a choice unless you're not capable of telling someone which one to take you to. I know for my money (literally) I'm directing anyone taking me to one in an emergency to bring me to one that is in my insurance network. If I'm unconscious, or otherwise incapable of that, I just have to deal with it. Bigger priorities at that point. I doubt that you could be held liable for carrying into a hospital if you were coming in on a stretcher or with someone else assisting you in dire straits. If you were a self-admit and still of sound mind, then I would think there is a case to be made. -

I'm probably the odd one out, but I'm fine with the criminal penalty for carrying past a sign. For sure, the sign needs to be pretty clear, not some small print, or a golf ball size one at the bottom right of the entrance won't cut it. If a business doesn't want guns on their property, that's on them. I will say that it would take a helluva product or service to get me in their door, though. I can find someone that doesn't post, or get by if I feel like making a point. I also think that government buildings shouldn't be posted at all. They are the places I can't find a market alternative to for services, so they should have to respect carry permits. The show a permit, skip the metal detector idea works for me. -
I'm a less talk, more action kind of guy, but maybe that video is needed for his area, so who knows. The transition from traditional LEO uniform to taticool LEO made me shake my head. I'd be less wary of his overall intentions if this guy wasn't a brand in addition to an LEO. http://www.captainhigginsgear.com/ He's also challenged the ACLU to a debate where tickets would be sold for charity...yet I thought there was a crime problem he should be working on based from that video. http://www.katc.com/story/31258402/aclu-issues-statement-about-higgins-segment

That's what I'm watching for. If Bush doesn't do well in South Carolina and Nevada, there are grumblings his donors will say enough is enough, and Kasich stands to pick up a decent bit of the money and support afterwards. If your LGS does that, than cool. You're just paying sales tax, just on the discounted price. They probably do that since you're in there so often. Good deal for you in the end!

I still want to see what Kasich says/does mainly. He's the only one on the Republican side that has my interest at the moment. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk, because I felt that Oh Shoot wanted to know that particular bit of information.

Presidential Primaries are the only time I don't vote too early. I want to see how Nevada and South Carolina shake out, or who drops out, before having to make the choice on my ballot.

So, being a 30something guy in college, I get to see this problem from a plethora of angles. From my admittedly narrow exposure at MTUS, one thing I rarely see is a college student without at least one part time job. Quite frankly, the only non-working students I can think of at the moment are athletes on scholarship, though I'm sure someone I've interacted with is living the good life on the dole from their parents. Hell, I'm working with three sorority girls, who would under first glance be the types you would roll your eyes at, because when it comes to politics they talk about birth control, the right to choose, and don't dismiss Bernie Sanders ideas as crazy. But I'll be damned if they aren't working and earning their keep. The job I share with them is their 2nd job of the day, and their first one has them on site at work at 5:30am on some days. Four nights a week, they work with me and the student athletes we mentor, sometimes not clocking out until after 10pm at night. In between all that, they are in class full time, with all the academic responsibilities that brings with it. So, yeah, they're working and getting that kick in the junk of life experience for $9/hr, all the while being forced to finance their way through school with help from family and loans. Guess the point is that life experience gained through work, and college attendance don't have to be mutually exclusive.

"Get a helicopter, that's what they're for." Ding, ding, ding. Sadly, I don't have that option in my current life.

No sales tax at all added onto the sale? For any standard retail transaction, which firearms qualify as, it's supposed to include sales tax for the stores location.
-
I know some of you will be loathe to hear it, but this is one area where more federal regulation is needed, not less. It will take a federal law, under the authority of the commerce clause, to require all retailers collect sales tax from whatever state the buyer resides in, and send it to that state's revenue department. Until then, LGS' will be at a huge disadvantage, because half of the allure in price savings is not being charged that sales tax at checkout. For any firearm that costs over $200, you're saving money by doing a transfer, even after a $20 transfer fee (that's what my preferred FFL charges) is applied. The $10 for a background check is occurring with an in-store purchase or a transfer, so that amount is irrelevant. And lets face it, most of us spend a good bit more than $200 on a gun purchase. The only way to get LGS' competitive again is to enforce some modicum of an even playing field. And the federal government is the only one that can make it happen with any teeth.

First key point...the Barrett isn't a sniper rifle in the traditional sense. It was built and is fielded as an anti-material rifle. Yes, it's been used to take out personnel, but that's a secondary purpose. The main purpose of the Barrett, is the ability to punch through light armor and other protection. You talk about the ranges between the Barrett and the other guns, but when one guns target is a person, and the others is a vehicle (or something else much bigger than a person), then you need to talk about target size/range comparison. I'm sure there is a math formula to make it even, but I'm not in a math mood at the moment. :P Second...the Barrett isn't alone in .50BMG precision shooting, and it's far from the undisputed winner. The McMillan Tac-50 is every bit as good, more portable, and better from a precision shooting standpoint. Also, see a recent entry at the end of the last point below for another model. As to the innovation of it, yeah, Barrett got there first by creating a rifle that could fire the .50BMG round. But being first and getting some good contracts by virtue of that doesn't make a legend, IMO. Third...I sort of hit this, but feel it bears going over again. No sniper team is useful unless they can operate dismounted for extended movements (five kilometers would be a minimum in my book). If anyone thinks that lugging 29lbs worth of Barrett rifle on top of a rucksack that is already filled with up to 100lbs of the lightest gear ever invented is practical, then I guess I can't convince you, so I'll just leave you with the words of Chief Petty Officer Chris Kyle (RIP), who I would submit was, before his death, somewhat of an expert about these things. This is what he had to say about our apparent state firearm: The fifty is huge, extremely heavy, and I just don’t like it. I never used one in Iraq. There’s a certain amount of hype and even romance for these weapons, which shoot a 12.7 x 99mm round. There are a few different specific rifles and variations in service with the U.S. military and other armies around the world. You’ve probably heard of the M-82 or the M-107, developed by Barrett Firearms Manufacturing. They have enormous ranges and in the right application are certainly good weapons. I just didn’t like them all that much. (The one .50 I do like is the Accuracy International model, which has a more compact, collapsible stock and a little more accuracy; it wasn’t available to us at the time.) Ronnie Barrett had a vision, though. I'll give him that. Others have just taken his first step and ran with it, however. So, as cool or fun as the M82/M107 is...it's kind of a 'meh' thing for me when all of the other factors are weighed against it.

Cough up a few duckets for a benefactor membership and head to the Gear Classifieds. Someone there is selling a Troy Bravo 11 inch Rail for a very fair price, and it would suit your needs perfectly.

The proper tool for that part of the job is man hands.

How would that work if a timeline was present? In the military, I saw guys who had to go regardless if their house sold or not, so my instinct tells me to keep a chunk of money on hand for the next down payment if I ever had to move for work unless I'm damn sure I'm staying somewhere for the next five years.

If I can conceal a Walther P99 and H&K VP9 with an Alien Gear OWB, I'm sure a Glock 26 would be no problem. http://aliengearholsters.com/alien-gear-cloak-slide-owb-holster-outside-the-waistband.html

Do you think this is your last house? There is probably a difference in this formula if you think you may move, or just need a bigger house in 5-15 years.
