This is a tragedy all around. So much cultural and economic property damaged to put into perspective at the moment. Like others probably have, there are some great memories of time spent in the area in my mind. I was even considering a trip up there in December if I don't have a job lined up early enough after graduation. I hope that anyone affected by all this is okay after. Rebuilding will be a chore for sure, and too often, people never get all the recompense they thought they were supposed to from insurance companies. Also, I can't say enough about those putting themselves in harms way to fight the fires, or help evacuate people in the danger zones. Suiting up and heading into those blazes is work done by men who have balls that clank.

More rounds. The "more power" argument with pistol rounds is a wash for me once a threshold is reached, and 9mm rounds have advanced to where they're above that threshold based on testing. Agree with @shotgunshooter when he comments on more power calling for a rifle. I've always looked at a pistol as ending an immediate threat in front of me, or allowing me to escape and get to a rifle. Ease of follow-on shots if needed is a nice secondary bonus, along with cost per round for training, and marksmanship skill with a 9mm vs. a .45 ACP for me far superior. Just see too many benefits not to carry a 9mm in today's day and age, in my mind.

I know it was point blank range and all, but I wish we could find out how many rounds actually hit.

...and it came out fantastic. Though I do think the thermometer in my oven is a bit off based on the cooking times. Either way, yum.

Happy Thanksgiving, TGO. Hope everyone gets their fill today, or whenever they may be having their dinner. A special thanks to those eating their turkey and trimmings with their "other family." I think they'll be well fed. From Defense Logistics Agency's website...

I won't be doing Thanksgiving until Saturday. An old friend up at Fort Campbell who got home from a 9-month deployment just yesterday. His wife wisely decided to push things to the right a few days to let him shake off the time zone change and jet lag. But, for myself, later this afternoon I'll be making a "Sunday Lunch" of sirloin tip roast, mashed potatoes, skillet corn, and Yorkshire pudding. No need to skimp out.

The entire video was satire about how out of control things have gotten. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk just to give Oh Shoot something to be grumpy about.

Pre-Black Friday, Black Friday and Cyber Monday Gun Sales
btq96r replied to JohnC's topic in General Chat
Ugh...sometimes I hate how being responsible with money forces me to pass on a fantastic deal like this. Probably tied with that 9mm ammo deal for best value of the thread so far. -
Have 1k rounds of PMC Bronze 115gr 9mm on the way. Picked up a "daily deal" from PSA over the weekend and got it for $0.22/rd since I bought enough for free shipping.

TTAG on Trump Admin 2A transition team!

You may be right. I know some sanctions were EOs, and some were legislative. In addition to the firearms ones, the Russian energy sector was targeted as well. -

I think national reciprocity is one of those things that won't be as smooth as some imagine. Too easy to challenge in court, too many people would think it's as simple as knowing the speed limit on roads for driving, when gun laws can widely vary state to state, and I can see some states trying to impose their standards on any out of state visitors (registration, further checks, training, ect.). The NFA stuff could be done easy. There are at least four Democratic Senators from "red state" up for re-election in 2018 who would have a miserable campaign against them if they oppose it, so I could see them waiting until early 2018 for political effect. I'd rather see it sooner, but politics are still in play. The Obama administration EO's can be done as soon as the White House Counsels office can have reversals typed up and double checked. They just need time to sort through them and make sure they aren't making mistakes. No issues there. The only questions would be about sanctions against Russia which has hit that brand of guns and ammo...that's something Congress might not be willing to play ball on. They're not as dovish on Russia as Trump is. Still, with the rest taken care of, that would be a minor blip in the grand scheme. -
Meh...stop thinking in terms of membership numbers. NRA needs members (private and industry) to keep funding their operations and lifestyle standards...in turn, conservative politicians, or center-left politicians in gun friendly areas, need the NRA to help fund their campaigns and put up ad's in their media markets, along with the endorsement that they would be scared to let go to a primary challenger. The Democrats have no venue to stop things aside from a filibuster in the Senate. Tuck gun stuff into other bills, spending authorizations (especially things that constrain the ATF), and it can pass easy enough. Hell, Democrats might even be okay with it passing so they can fund raise off of it. Some social media targeting, a few interviews by the NRA heads on key venues...both dropping some not so subtle hints that the NRA expects a Republican Congress, the Judiciary Committees especially, to action the 2A part of the MAGA plan. Look at this as a behind the scenes political issue and a road to results starts to form.
-
NRA members should be the one selling it well. I get writing/calling/emailing your Congressman, which should be done...but if I was being hounded for money by the NRA, I'd tell them that with a Republican President & Congress, funds are no longer defensive, but will be allocated for what they produce. In realistic theory, the NRA could have a few major items knocked off the list within a year. The threat of endorsing primary challengers in the mid-terms should be enough to scare incumbents. On my end, I fully expect the SAF to get hot on filing suits once Trump's judicial picks settle to the district and appeals courts over time. There's is the long game, but the NRA has to strike while the iron is hot now.
-
So...what's the NRA's plan for a legislative push on gun issues like this? With a Republican President who they helped "bigly" with that early major endorsement, and a Republican Congress that has to have a lot of members with A ratings...they should be able to get a decent chunk of a wishlist through the next Congress.

If they're legal (even if a background check is required at purchase), the price should fall fast. I think the biggest drop in price would be as other large manufacturers get into it. Imagine how competitive the silencer/suppressor market would get if Daniel Defense, and BCM add full time can production to their offerings. We'd have a good game on then.
-
If the firearms industry was untied, and held government sales to state and municipal level agencies to the standards they put on their citizens...these places would come around riki tik.
-
I think once I get a job after graduation, and settle down somewhere, a .300BLK upper build is in my future. If I'm lucky, suppressors may be off the list or at least much cheaper/easier to process than they are now. If the entire SBR thing is nixed, I'd even build a dedicated lower for it instead of having it for my already approved SBR.

H.R.3799 - Hearing Protection Act of 2015
btq96r replied to Omega's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
New Congress gets sworn in January 3rd unless they change the schedule. But really, they have a lot of Pro Forma things to do until the inauguration. Chief among them a joint session to count electoral votes. They'll also hold individual ceremonial swearing in's for the benefit of family and friends. If we want this bill to pass this year, it needs to make it through committee, on the floor for a vote, then same process in the Senate. All before the Congress adjourns for the holidays...and the House only has 16 days of work in DC scheduled for the rest of 2016, with selecting leadership for next session on tap. So, that's not happening. It will have to be reintroduced in 2017, passed, and sent to President Trump's desk. All among the other priorities they will be chomping at the bit to push through. -
I hope you still poke your head in from time to time, Joe. Our out of state crowd helps us see how things are outside the bubble. Regardless, all the best with what's to come for you.

As long as I don't see " American Outdoor Brands Corp." stamped on a gun.

I'm not a die hard S&W fan, but I think this is a stupid move. 160+ years of history and name recognition is something they'll miss having on future sales to novice first time buyers. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-11-07/gunmaker-smith-wesson-to-drop-19th-century-founders-from-name

That one should work well enough. If you're going to spend $55, why not just up the buy and get a full bolt carrier group?
-
Any AR bolt should do, but you want to make sure you're getting from a quality vendor. If you're still unsure, post a link that you are thinking about and we'll give you a thumbs up or down.

I like it getting dark early. Seems weird to say "night" when it's still daylight out. Plus it means cold weather is on the way, which in turn means I'll be out at the range more.
