I honestly don't know what the real truth is after all the casting of doubt I've seen on the web. I do believe that as long as that man put on some of his Santa costume and went to comfort that little boy in such a moment to alleviate his worries over missing Xmas, that the rest seems trivial by comparison.

...you're acquainted with as decent a human being as I've ever read about. http://www.knoxnews.com/story/entertainment/columnists/sam-venable/2016/12/11/sam-venable-santa-grants-final-wish/95091356/

If such things matter to you and the wife for personal or medical reasons, I'd recommend researching the differences in temperatures during the summer. Winter lows are also a bit different.

Michael Hayden on the 2nd Amendment
btq96r replied to MacGyver's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
It's arguable that he should have been in the dock to answer for Constitutional violations while head of the NSA. He's the guy who sold warrantless wiretapping as an idea to Cheney and crew. My favorite photo of him: -
Two juveniles charged for starting Sevier Co. wildfires

That would be quite fitting considering the damage caused. Unless they're beyond rehabilitation, long prison terms will just make them lifetime criminals. I can't see any reason to try them as adults...I've not a fan of that practice save a case by case basis when per-meditated murder/attempted murder is involved. I'm interested to learn if these two were out to bring as much mayhem as possible, or two dumb kids who let a fire get out of control with the weather causing the rest. Not excusing anything, but I find it hard to believe that to under 18 teens could have intended the devastation caused. -
They did that for me too. Humana even sent me a new insurance card. The letter I got from the marketplace specifically said that it wasn't required for me to pay the premium or agree to anything with that company... Though I have a nagging suspicion that Humana will mark it on my credit report and sell the debt to a collector if I don't, as an admin "mistake" of course.

Doubt it. Those cases that led to Illinois being forced to set up a system pretty much closed the door on states outright prohibiting some form of carry. The process may be as painful as they can make it, but they have to have something. Since Heller recognized the individual right to carry, and McDonald incorporated it to the states, there is very little ground for even a state like Illinois to stand on.

This is the smart part, and honestly as good as we could expect all things considered. People need to be smart out this. So, it's not like I could just visit my cousin in Connecticut with my VP9 and 15-rd magazines, I'd have to find some 10-rd ones. All 50 states have some kind of laws governing carry, so the info is there...but getting the right info will be key. State Troopers won't care if you didn't do the time to research, they'll treat it as they see it.

Both would be optimal if you don't need to sell one to get the other, but if I had to have just one in your situation...it would be a 16" AR with the gizmos to suit your needs (light, red dot). I've never been a worshiper of the .308 for more than situations hat require it. I've always seen it as a longer range round that still packs a punch. But since you don't hunt, your need for that round isn't immediate. Now 7.62x39 is a bigger caliber I can get behind for multi-purpose needs.

FWIW...you're under no obligation to take the field sobriety test. You can flat out refuse it. Tennessee's implied consent law only addresses blood, breath, or urine.

I'm going to be cautiously optimistic on this one. If there isn't anything complete by the 2018 midterm elections, we'll have a good idea how much the expansion of gun rights is prioritized with the new administration and congress.
-
With a Republican congress and President it's an easy thing legislative wise. At this point it's all about where this would fall in the order of priorities for the new government. Politically, the most opportune time for this is early on in 2018, so that Democrats up for re-election in "red" states have to decide where they want the benefit/damage to be...primary or general. The only issues would be the debate on whether or not cans become a standard FFL item that require a background check (I can live with that), and where the line is if any people who have cut checks to ATF get a refund.

It's only northern in terms of geography. The identity of PA is pretty rural outside of the cities. James Carville once described it as Philadelphia in the east, Pittsburgh (when union workers helped keep the city strong for Democrats) in the west, and Alabama in the middle. My father lives somewhat in between the center of the state and Philly...and that sentiment from Carville is spot on. Because they have a mix independent/libertarian instead of straight D vs. R. Also, New Hampshire has some very friendly gun laws, and I think Maine is coming around decently. It's really a nice area to live, if a bit cold and snowy during the winter. The Massachusetts and Connecticut legislatures give the region a bad rap.

Ironically, under incoming Attorney General Jeff Sessions, this issue could be pressed further on the part of the federal government. The Obama administration was doing the right thing by letting state level experiments occur. Who knows how much of a pet issue Sessions will make legalized weed at the state level.

Well, since Tennessee doesn't have an income tax, the state looks to pinch money any which way it can to fund daily operations. We've debated a bit how much the actual process of processing HCP applications is on the state since they use existing facilities and workers at the DMV and TBI...but it is what it is. I'm going to guess your location has more to do with this than anything. From my location in Murfreesboro, I have access at least a two indoor pistol ranges, and four rifle ranges (three of which I know have a pistol area) within an hours drive. That's just off the top of my head, so I may even be forgetting a few more. Compare that to your location, where there isn't a lot of population density win driving distance to support a bustling firearms range selection. You're also in the "touristy area" so that's not helping things when it comes to local ordinances and what not. Well, the NRA rep to our state is a joke, and the only attention they really pay to Tennessee is when they brought the annual convention to Nashville, and when they want money. While I'm sure plenty of us love the firearms safety and promotion of the cause, the rest is off-putting to me at least. The NRA range requirements is just using a ready made format, IMO. No, it's just that our Republican government is the capital R type of Republican that loves to talk a good game while making sure the plebs don't get too much freedom to turn against them. I think with a few exceptions we're at a decent medium on the macro scale, but it's all situation and location dependent.

Pre-Black Friday, Black Friday and Cyber Monday Gun Sales
btq96r replied to JohnC's topic in General Chat
If...if, that big damned if. The dream scenario is early action on this if the NRA pulls the right lever (I'm not convinced that an NFA repeal is in their political favor), and we see suppressors at can't pass up prices for Black Friday 2017. -
I'm thinking about a potential home buy in the April time frame if I have a stable job in the area by then...and I'm lamenting how the interest rate hike will be a factor against me, even with 20-25% down. I hate the way housing is a racket.

Pre-Black Friday, Black Friday and Cyber Monday Gun Sales
btq96r replied to JohnC's topic in General Chat
If suppressors came out from under NFA rules, the immediate issue would be the production ability of the current industry. I think, that once sales of them became commonplace, then the major manufacturers (DD, BCM, et al) would add suppressor machining to their factories and alongside the current ones, would get enough to the market to start having price wars. All that would probably take a year to hit a favorable level to the consumer level, but they won't be near as expensive as they are now. -
This is a tragedy all around. So much cultural and economic property damaged to put into perspective at the moment. Like others probably have, there are some great memories of time spent in the area in my mind. I was even considering a trip up there in December if I don't have a job lined up early enough after graduation. I hope that anyone affected by all this is okay after. Rebuilding will be a chore for sure, and too often, people never get all the recompense they thought they were supposed to from insurance companies. Also, I can't say enough about those putting themselves in harms way to fight the fires, or help evacuate people in the danger zones. Suiting up and heading into those blazes is work done by men who have balls that clank.

More rounds. The "more power" argument with pistol rounds is a wash for me once a threshold is reached, and 9mm rounds have advanced to where they're above that threshold based on testing. Agree with @shotgunshooter when he comments on more power calling for a rifle. I've always looked at a pistol as ending an immediate threat in front of me, or allowing me to escape and get to a rifle. Ease of follow-on shots if needed is a nice secondary bonus, along with cost per round for training, and marksmanship skill with a 9mm vs. a .45 ACP for me far superior. Just see too many benefits not to carry a 9mm in today's day and age, in my mind.
-
I know it was point blank range and all, but I wish we could find out how many rounds actually hit.

...and it came out fantastic. Though I do think the thermometer in my oven is a bit off based on the cooking times. Either way, yum.

Happy Thanksgiving, TGO. Hope everyone gets their fill today, or whenever they may be having their dinner. A special thanks to those eating their turkey and trimmings with their "other family." I think they'll be well fed. From Defense Logistics Agency's website...

I won't be doing Thanksgiving until Saturday. An old friend up at Fort Campbell who got home from a 9-month deployment just yesterday. His wife wisely decided to push things to the right a few days to let him shake off the time zone change and jet lag. But, for myself, later this afternoon I'll be making a "Sunday Lunch" of sirloin tip roast, mashed potatoes, skillet corn, and Yorkshire pudding. No need to skimp out.
