  1. Not odd. It was on the quarterly earnings call, so they threw out every excuse they could without raising the panic flag. Dick's is trying to reassure investors that despite the firearms issues, the rest of the business is fundamentally sound. That's a challenge any retail outlet chain is having, Dick's just decided being opposed by gun enthusiasts was a better evil than by Moms Demand Action, or the Parkland kids. https://seekingalpha.com/article/4225214-dicks-sporting-goods-inc-dks-ceo-edward-stack-q3-2018-results-earnings-call-transcript?part=single Here are a few quotes from the CFO direct to guns... "Specific to hunt, in addition to the strategic decisions we made regarding firearms earlier this year, the broader industry has decelerated and remains weak as evidenced by most recent National Background Check Data. We believe this also contributed to the decline we saw during the quarter." This is him saying the firearms industry in general is slowing down, and even if they didn't do what they did, revenue from guns, wouldn't have mattered. "Some of the equipment businesses, particularly outdoor equipment they – the comp sales were down, some of that driven a little bit by weather and probably some of it driven by some of the firearms customers that we have also involved with the outdoor equipment and camp categories and so on that – so that business down a bit as we started to see during the second and into the third quarter as well." A legit admission that people who used to buy guns at Dick's were taking their business elsewhere for the other things they sell. Side note: whenever most companies are blaming the weather, some fundamental issues are rotten. So, they're admitting it...but not blaming it for their financial woes. Probably true enough, it's just really hard to be a retail store today in general. They seem to have not done themselves any favors, though.
  2. I got this...I'll use my omnipotent powers to enact the principals of linear time, forcing this bill to expire as the Congress adjourns in a few weeks.
  3. For the last four years, I've been using an over the air antenna (think the old bunny ears, only the signal comes in 1080p HD) and a Roku with Netflix, Hulu, HBOGo (comes with my Comcast package), and other cool streaming apps like PBS. Tullahoma not be the best location to get the OTA signals, though, @robtattoo. Should check out what you can pick up through this link, and then you'd probably have to get a solid outdoor antenna, and run it through the cable jacks in your house. I did that in Murfreesboro, and picked up all the Nashville channels fine. I'd imagine you'll get more Chattanooga stations, though. Stay away from the indoor ones, they're really only good if you live in the city where the signals are transmitted. https://www.fcc.gov/media/engineering/dtvmaps This is the antenna I had, worked like a charm, all I needed was a long coaxial cable to run it from where I had it mounted to the cable jack outside the house. https://www.amazon.com/RCA-Compact-Outdoor-Antenna-ANT751E/dp/B0024R4B5C Between these steps, and using my own cable modem/wifi-router, I've save an awesome amount of money from going to Comcast or Direct TV. And I've never missed what I gave up.
  4. I quite enjoy watching Tennessee get used to mop the field. I get and appreciate pride in an alma mater, or local team, but Tennessee fans have a tendency to think their school punches well above its weight.
  5. I'm doing the full shebang tomorrow with my extended family...but no matter what day you're celebrating, I hope it's a great one for you and yours. Happy Thanksgiving TGO.
  6. Oh, you can screw it up and still be just fine as an ex-President. https://www.politico.com/story/2015/06/on-talk-circuit-george-bush-makes-millions-but-few-waves-118697
  7. The HPA will have to be re-introduced in the next Congress. Any bill pending expires after the two year term ends. Simple enough, just a re-filing by staffers, and updated co-sponsors if they want. You can talk about the Democrats killing it in the House, but as of today with 23 months of Republican controlled Congress, it's in the exact spot a Democratic block would keep it at, so really, there is no difference in how each party is treating it. https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/367
  8. Congress is fully capable of multiple efforts at the same time...especially on different topics. Gun laws go through the committees that oversee DOJ & ATF, tax reform went through the Ways & Means Committee. The only time they need to act as a full body is for the voting. Things they want to happen, will happen. Clearly this wasn't a priority for the congress or the administration. Who knows when the chance will come again. I'm not saying we needed to get everything, but something would have been nice. Moving SBRs off the NFA list, or approval with a standard background check and a $200 tax stamp the FFL can collect would suffice. Just ending the wait that's become a infringement via the bottleneck is the ass pain there. The HPA could of also been passed with a modicum of effort (even tacked onto some appropriations bill), but clearly the President and Congress weren't of a mind to reward gun owners for their loyalty shown in the turnout out for the 2016 election. Instead, the gun lobby is acquiescing over something they would have fought the Obama administration on.
  9. You guys getting tired of all the winning on gun rights yet? Two years of consolidated power to pass whatever could have come through a Congress that has a lot of favors to repay the gun lobby, and all we got was zip.
  10. I'm honestly surprised this kind of scenario isn't more common. When adrenaline is running that high, it can lead to some tragic events. Between the good guy we lost, and the LEO who has to live with this for the rest of his life, it's a bad day all around.
  11. Crazy to think about the conditions and brutality those men endured. They deserve the rememberance of the 100yr anniversary and beyond.
  12. Gotta have someone as the boogeyman to gin up fundraising for the NRA.
  13. New gas block, maybe a muzzle device, and/or a free float rail, nothing crazy. I just don't have the tools or a workspace in my apartment to make it happen.
  14. Looking for some recommendations on where a good place to get some work done on ARs would be? Nothing too crazy, just some parts installs if anything strikes my fancy during the holiday sales.
  15. Same here. Veterans Day, and especially Memorial Day have always been quiet times of contemplation for me. The last thing on my mind is scoring a free meal.
  16. Just in time for a free rubber steak from Applebee's.
  17. While I'm quite appreciative of Lowe's for how well they walk the talk when it comes to both serving and employing veterans, this one is kind of jumping the shark. Disabled veterans can get handicap placards easily enough, and those of us with no incapacitating condition can park where a spot is open. For myself and plenty of other vets who decided not to run 4+miles on the regular once it wasn't a requirement could use the extra few steps.
  18. Then I can understand the reason for the .gov to wanting the letters excluded. If this case isn't about a brace, then the letters, which are written to address the topic of the braces, aren't relevant to the case at hand.
  19. Couldn't help but this of this scene from Game of Thrones as I read this thread...
  20. I gotta say, I'm surprised they were allowed to go hit the town. That said, while out and about, it seems our Marines and Sailors are every bit as worthy of their titles as the men that came before them. https://icelandmag.is/article/bars-downtown-reykjavik-ran-out-beer-serving-thirsty-us-sailors-and-marines?fbclid=IwAR01tSoTSLTDD3qOoqS3hSN-LRRPkg3oxh_YRGU0dHheRzST4Iw1FDmKMh4
  21. This will be a great excuse for TGO Benefactor Memberships being unaffordable. Probably won't help marital spending discussions either. Glad a good business like this is moving to the area. Even more glad the work space is not in the downtown/midtown/west end area.
  22. Concur the location of the officer was less than optimal. Teaching point on this one, thankfully without a bad ending for emphasis. Restraining a defendant who hasn't been convicted during their trial should stay a no-go unless the defendant has somehow proven to be a threat. The protection for impartial due process is too important and justifies the risk, IMO. I know I'd want the protection in place if I was ever on trial and being looked at by a jury.
  23. Everytime I walk out of a restaurant with leftovers, I keep an eye out for someone who could use that food a lot more than I could before I make it to the fridge.
  24. This seems the most doable, and the industry probably needs a banking arm as much as anything at the moment. As much money as there is in the gun community (companies and rich folks who could come on as investors for an ownership share), they could probably startup a 2A Credit Union, and run it for the benefit of gun manufacturing & sales companies. They would have to be a bit tighter on the flow of capital, and offer reasonable, not VC or hedge fund rates of returns for shareholders and customers. Keeping their nose out of the banking sector in general by sticking to a fixed savings and loan model would be a nice insulation technique, but the first time someone greedy has enough power, that would be a risk. Honestly, the NRA should look at this as their survive the next 20yrs project, and set it up while the political cover and regulatory path is there via Trump holding the White House. They have the best chance to match up the needed parties and get it off the ground.
  25. Oh. Em. Gee. Damn, that looks good. Did you season the meat with anything before it hit the grill?
