So sad to hear. Can't imagine how the family felt having what seemed like progress and hope ripped from them. They'll be in my thoughts, along with the best wishes for his wife's recovery...both in body and spirit. Please let us know if/when any funds are set up to help what comes next.

So, for anyone who does the day trading thing for fun or for keeps, are you doing it after maxing out tax advantaged & retirement accounts, or doing it within a brokerage account for your 401k/IRA/Roth IRA? How about from your financial advisors for those who use one; are you knowing what they're doing with different types of accounts you have, and are you comfortable with that risk?

Are you on their forum as well? The differences between there are here are night as to day.

I save the gambling for sports games as a form of entertainment. When investing for my intermediate future and retirement, I use index funds. Trying to pick stocks is too much of a guess and time consumer when it's not your full-time job...and even then it's not an easy thing. I would seriously advise anyone looking to pick stocks to do it with disposable income, and leave the retirement planing to an index or target date fund.

Right, but under the thoughts of some, the COVID patients are being used to pad the books with free money from Uncle Sugar.

Not when you're betting against them.

Here's a story about a hospital raking in those COVID dollars... https://www.wkrn.com/news/local-news/perry-community-hospital-suspending-all-services-for-about-two-months/

Very glad things seem to be going well. Hoping for the best patient outcome for your wife, Jamie.

Like guns, knowing what she wants to use it for helps a lot. Might be able to lessen the money hit if you can not need the latest and greatest...but this is still going to sting.

The business tax cuts Trump signed are locked in and would require a congressional majority to change (not likely if McConnell holds the Senate Leadership). The individual ones had a sunset provision as required, so it'll just be a negotiation on what rates stay as currently is, which ones go up, and of the latter, by how much. Same story as it was when Obama and Boehner haggled over the expiring Bush tax cuts with I think $400k of taxable income being the limit for keeping the cut.

The difference between large publicly traded corporations and private companies is important. Make no mistake, those corporations are only employing Tennesseans here locally because of favorable conditions. They'll lay everyone off and pop smoke for any site a cost/benefit analysis can prove is more profitable overall. When your real owners are financial institutions and hedge funds, the risk to locals who depend on that job source is much bigger than a small business, or even a large business with roots in a community that feels some sense of civic responsibility to their location. I'm with you that not all corporations are inherently bad, and I fully agree the jobs they bring matter to someone providing for their family. I just think it's honest to say there's a lot of that money that isn't staying in the community compared to a different structure. When any relief bill is providing funds to a company that can leverage ridiculously low debt costs and public share offerings to raise capital, that seems a waste to me compared to a local business getting that or more. I see small and medium size locally owned businesses as still holding a lot of value, and understand keeping one open is as hard a thing to do as there in in any economy, let alone one as at risk as we have now. So when we're talking economic relief for COVID, I want to keep as much of that money sent here (or returned if you prefer) from Washington in the community rather than to financial institution shareholders. Wall Street will survive, I'm sure.

While I'm in agreement with you on the grim state of forecasting in numbers, I don't think another shutdown is on the horizon...at least not like we had before. State and local governments are staring down so much red ink, that I'm guessing most of them will let things stay open in some way above what we saw in April. If an economic shutdown is going to happen, it'll have to be be consumer driven, not governmental. We really could have been like New Zealand if we had the collective will...but, #Murica.

For those wondering if doctors took pay cuts; if they are the sole practitioner or among a partnership of physicians who own a group practice, then yeah, they took pay cuts in 2020. Hard to pay out the bonuses when the revenue wasn't coming in as budgeted. Even with some free Uncle Sugar donations from HHS via the CARES act, it's been a kick in the junk for the medical industry. That's not to say I have too much sympathy for those who should have a pile of cash reserves and investments back up to par with the market having rebounded...but it happened, and hit their support staffs as well in a lot of cases. Sumner County is on COVID diversion as well. The more outlining facilities that go on diversion, the more it will just a create compounding pressure on the Davidson County hospitals.

"Breaking News" Alex Trebek has died at the age of 80"
btq96r replied to The Legion's topic in General Chat
Such a loss. He came across as truly happy with the journey life took him on, so I'll celebrate that. Knowing what he faced in the end, I would hope I could muster even half the dignity and good cheer he showed during his fight if I had to ensure something similar. Or for anything when my times comes really. Alex showed us what fighting the good fight was all about. -

A2 Front Post Taper Pin Removal Issues (HELP)

I'd have to dig for the thread, but once upon a time a member who I don't see post much anymore helped me get the FSP off my AR upper using his blow torch to heat it up and make the pins easier to pop out. -
The man was a legend, and there are a lot worse ways to go than peaceably in your sleep at the age of 90. We'll be enjoying the performances he gave us long after today. Thanks for all the gifts, Sir Sean.

ATF coming after AR/AK/PCC pistols
btq96r replied to Chucktshoes's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I think this is a trial balloon, but it has to be taken seriously. Some eager beaver civil servants may be seeing what they can line up in anticipation of a handing a potential Biden administration and the AG he picks a gem for the "first 100 days" of action items. People have been absolutely brazen about "pistols", the sales numbers are a thumb in the eye, and it's some very low hanging fruit that doesn't have to go through Congress because they ceded this authority to the ATF because governing is actually hard. The road to what we're facing is pretty easy to see. -

My kingdom for a dark theme. Guessing the bottom menu Chuck mentions is only for mobile browsers? I can't see it as I'm typing this on a PC. Seems to be running pretty smooth. Thanks for all the time you put into this, David. -

How's the depth perception on the ones you got? That was always the limiting bit for the ones I had issued in the Army. It makes bumps in the road a nice surprise. -
While I'm not overly fond of them, they have value as recruiting tools in some form. Young kids see them at airshows and become enthralled with the idea, so the seeds of military service are planted. Right now I see flyovers as time and money that should be reallocated to combat training, or operational missions of actual value. Same with the Blue Angles and Thunderbirds you mention, just add in we should put those very good pilots back into line duty somewhere as either instructors or into combat formations.
