  1. +1 for these. I love their shorts for the summer.
  2. Welcome to the new members. I just passed my 7th year here on TGO and I stay around for a lot reasons...all of them being examples of this just being a great place to hang out on the internet. I'm all for new folks joining the site; especially if they're paying for the privilege as a benefactor. And while I'm not much of a buy/sell type through here compared to some, I'm also a-okay being someone's first transaction partner. If they're minding their Ps and Qs as they get the lay of the place, not trying to make themselves out to be the best new member in the history of ever, and don't have anything giving me reservation...no issues doing business if it suits us both.
  3. Incorrect. This doesn't impact RTC laws in those states. The ruling validates Hawaii's law, under the premise that the state has the prerogative to restrict carry. This won't automatically put the law upheld in Hawaii into effect across the 9th Circuit. It would allow those states to do so, but it's not a court dictated adoption across their jurisdiction as your post would indicate.
  4. Safety and life of the target (think force of impact over distance). In the army, I was in a shooting class run by ex Delta guys, and we were shooting at mechanical LaRue targets (setting up a field of these if I ever hit the lottery ). I took it as an assumed fact these guys knew what they were talking about for range setup purposes.
  5. I'm going to try to set aside some time to read the full opinion, but at a glance, this case involving open carry is one wrinkle that might be unique.
  6. I'll be the last to say that there isn't something worth checking out here, but there's also a lot of questions about how this is developing. Couple in that apparently they went to Watson for a settlement before going to court, and a lot is sketchy here. Mike Florio lays out a lot of good points about how the lawyer representing these women is making this about himself as much as anything.
  7. You're the man! I'll try not to muck this up a year from now, but won't be upset if you bet I do.
  8. Any way to marry the dates so I don't lose the six days if a rewal goes a year from expiration rather than a year from the renewal? Noticed the old one goes all the way back to 2014. Man times flies. Alternatively I could cancel the fresh one for a refund and renew the old membership if that's easier on your end. Not sure how the payments and any fees would kick in on the sites end. Sorry for the mess. The payment processes super easy, but finding where to make it vis a vis managing a renewal obviously is confusing (to me anyway).
  9. I don't care if these were angels among us or straight up whores, this man is someone society needs to lock him up forever or put him down. There is zero sympathy for circumstances, beliefs, or anything when you take eight lives in a premeditated act. I'm not sold on the racial bias here, but you at least investigate it when something like this happens, and you go a bit deeper than taking the murderer at his word. This could be a targeting of prostitution while also targeting Asians. Right now, I don't think we know to a degree to be making declarative statements. I do know that Asians have been subjected to some horrid measures of discrimination since the 1800s, and not much happens in a vacuum. The media is just hyping it up to fill air time in an other wise boring period because as John Popper sang, "when I'm feeling stuck and need a buck I don't rely on luck because The Hook brings you back". They're struggling to find content without Trump feeding it up for them so they'll be grasping at things like this.
  10. Bump. @TGO Davidcan you assist when a moment avails, please?
  11. They can run the gun's SN, and see if she has her 2A rights denied for any reason, but let's remember castle doctrine has been extended to a vehicle, and no kind of permit is needed to justify it's presence in the vehicle if they can't prove she isn't legally able to own one.
  12. Some takeaways as I saw this video a while back, but didn't want to be the one to post it here (thanks to @Omega for broaching the topic). 1) Very true that things go from zero to one hundred fast here. The officer had a good reaction time to escelation events as they happened. 1a) The officer needed that good reaction time because the situation had gotten out of hand as others have pointed out. We can debate his weight, but I wouldn't be surprised if she saw officer Tubby McCracker as soft and felt emboldened. 2) This woman doesn't seem a net benefit to society, and I don't for one second condone her shooting the officer, or even grabbing the weapon. Still in a better world, the weed being (presumably) was the reason the officer got to search her and put her into fight or flight mode is at best debatable insofar as should it be a crime or not. Our laws in at least some way contributed to this event's conclusion. Very similar questions. I'm sure the weed was the gate into it all, and that I do have some issues with, which leads me to... If this is a dime bag PC situation that lead to shootings...well, it'll be time for my refrain on how we need to just legalize weed because all the laws against it are doing is enabling government actions. Remove the laws about personal quantities of weed, and this situation is a lot different. Nobody dead or in the hospital most likely. One armchair question is what urgent need to act on the stop is there until backup arrives? Once the car is pulled over, I would think the officer could wait for another cruiser to show up and help with the encounter. Bit of tactical patience could have prevented a lot here, but I may be wrong in that. The questionable standards of BLM/Antifa aside, I like that police departments feel the need to justify their actions to the public, especially when it comes to the lethal use of force. I'm not unhappy that government agents have a bit of fear from the governed reminding them where their authority comes from in the first place. Again, this may not be a perfect example of the Jeffersonian process in action, but it's a good start.
  13. Any way that the renewal I just did could be moved to the right so that it kicks in? Guessing I screwed up by making a new purchase instead of managing and renewing the old one (a tradition like none other). As always, thanks to David, Mac, and the moderators for keeping this place in good repair...I'm sure the last year was as big a test of your patience as there ever was in living memory.
  14. This thread has been a trip to read from the beginning a year after it was started. The 12 months that have passed were crazy on so many levels.
  15. There is even less reach given these carve outs (probably meant to head off talking points against it), especially sections B, D & F: “(2) Paragraph (1) shall not apply to— “(A) a law enforcement agency or any law enforcement officer, armed private security professional, or member of the armed forces, to the extent the officer, professional, or member is acting within the course and scope of employment and official duties; “(B) a transfer that is a loan or bona fide gift between spouses, between domestic partners, between parents and their children, including step-parents and their step-children, between siblings, between aunts or uncles and their nieces or nephews, or between grandparents and their grandchildren, if the transferor has no reason to believe that the transferee will use or intends to use the firearm in a crime or is prohibited from possessing firearms under State or Federal law; “(C) a transfer to an executor, administrator, trustee, or personal representative of an estate or a trust that occurs by operation of law upon the death of another person; “(D) a temporary transfer that is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm, including harm to self, family, household members, or others, if the possession by the transferee lasts only as long as immediately necessary to prevent the imminent death or great bodily harm, including the harm of domestic violence, dating partner violence, sexual assault, stalking, and domestic abuse; “(E) a transfer that is approved by the Attorney General under section 5812 of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986; or “(F) a temporary transfer if the transferor has no reason to believe that the transferee will use or intends to use the firearm in a crime or is prohibited from possessing firearms under State or Federal law, and the transfer takes place and the transferee’s possession of the firearm is exclusively— “(i) at a shooting range or in a shooting gallery or other area designated for the purpose of target shooting; “(ii) while reasonably necessary for the purposes of hunting, trapping, or fishing, if the transferor— “(I) has no reason to believe that the transferee intends to use the firearm in a place where it is illegal; and “(II) has reason to believe that the transferee will comply with all licensing and permit requirements for such hunting, trapping, or fishing; or “(iii) while in the presence of the transferor. Then that's the walkaway point. Get what we can now, and dig in later. If they want to attach registration to the negotiation, that would end things and we're back to where we are now.
  16. I'd say to that, there are plenty of unenforceable laws in effect. This would be like all the others that exist to make others feel good, and give government something to charge a person with for show. It presents a chance to get something important for little to no cost. If Democrats don't want to play ball, then give up nothing, and make them get it alone. This opportunity is very low risk for a potential high reward as I see it.
  17. If it gets through the Senate, it'll hold up in court I think. Background checks are already in place and legal for dealer purchases, so this just widens the net as it were. It doesn't add a burden that isn't already in existence, just expands it to a larger number of transactions. What Republicans should do is haggle over it, and try to get something for going along with it. If Democrats want universal background checks to make things "safer", than we should feel safe enough to remove suppressors and/or SBRs from NFA restrictions. Or something else not as flashy, but just as important, like prohibiting import restrictions on ammo. Point is, UBCs are a small thing to negotiate away for something that has a wider and more lasting impact in my mind.
  18. I've told myself if I get/build another AR, I'd put a LaRue trigger in.
  19. Is there something I'm missing with the Central location in Nashville at Capital View, because I didn't think it was that good. Certainly nowhere near Martin's, Edley's, or Jack of Hearts in Spring Hill (which is now sadly closed).
  20. Hoping the family can comfort each other in their time of grief. Can't imagine the loss they're going through.
  21. Here's hoping the TFA experience for some of you is a good one. A while back I chipped in a few duckets and started getting emails from their mailing list about other groups for things like rallies to oppose Obamacare. Left a sour taste in my mouth about what was supposed to be a single issue group sharing their resources to other causes, and how small the tent is for center left folks like myself who want gun rights, but not necessarily the rest of the conservative agenda attached to my name.
  22. You aren't doing anything wrong with regards to Bitcoin. It's not wrong to avoid speculation on something as unproven and unique as digital currency if you don't understand it. Your friend may be cashing out like he won the lottery, but I'm thinking it's more luck and timing than an outcome of deliberate thought besides, "let's see how this goes". Good for him though if he's at the financial independence stage as a result. Aside from some tax advice to make sure Uncle Sugar gets their duly legal cut, he needs to get into a thought mode of how to make that money last the rest of his life, and past his life if he's thinking of leaving anything to the kids. Depending on how much he cashed out at, he might be able to do it on interest alone, but these are the things you need to plan for, and be ready to stress test. For one thing, his cost of healthcare is probably about to way up.
  23. I don't think comparisons of this site and others (left or right) are apt. A higher standard of decorum is a good thing about this site. We should hold ourselves to it here without regard to the rest of the internet. The vitriol of left or right isn't my vibe, so I think that's why I keep coming here. Even if I don't feel compelled to celebrate his career, I've enough compassion to have a thought for Rush's struggle with cancer, along with his family and their loss. Cancer is a horrible thing for someone to endure in their final days, also hard on the family and friends. Good thoughts are free, so I'll run some up.
  24. Hope the old man joints don't force you to put that up on the Trading Post...that would be a shame.
  25. Treatment for GSWs is a good skill for gun owners to have. Few will ever get to EMT level, but there's a lot you can do to keep someone alive before the ambulance shows up if you've got the training and materials.
