Just unplug it and keep it around for emergencies or power outages since it's run separate from the power lines. That's about the only advantage of a landline these days. Unless you have one of those landlines that run off of a cable modem...then you're buggered regardless.

Like I said, Fort Jackson runs about 50% of all Soldiers through basic training now. The best chance going elsewhere is if you have a combined basic & AIT like most combat arms do. Infantry- Benning, Field Artillery- Fort Sill, Engineers- Leonard Wood. My father was kind of sad when I told him that Fort Dix, NJ was closed down for basic. That's where he went through in 1965'ish.

Up to seven, eight if Hershmeister wants to be our "El Cuñado." That would be the minimum for a league...though a bit weak. 10 or 12 would be better. Not looking like we can get to 16 teams. I was thinking of doing an online draft on a weeknight sometime the upcoming week. That way everybody should be able to do it without having to go on autopick.

I went to Jackson in 2000 despite having an MOS closed to women. Unless you're in a OSUT MOS, you have a decent chance of going to Fort Jackson. They run basic for about 50% of all new recruits. We even had a few guys (not infantry) in my basic platoon who were diverted to Jackson, since Benning had too many privates sitting around waiting for a cycle to begin.

You make 4. Hoping to have more at this point. ESPN is the easiest I've seen so far. Fox Sports wasn't bad when I used them one year. Watching my friend use NFL.com's FF side left me unimpressed. No experience with Yahoo.

Only two people are interested? Enough of the estimated 30some million people who play fantasy football have to be here on TGO to form a league.

At least that officer has muzzle control while handling his weapon. Less than Lethal, or slugs, I'm more confident in his ability to wield the gun responsibly than say...this guy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zbR824FKpU ETA: The officer in this video was apparently relieved of duty after complaints from people who saw the video. The system works...sort of.

I looked that one up by NSN (National Stock Number) and it returned the following; 8145-01-490-5543 CONTAINER,SPECIAL 58200-083 SPECIAL FEATURES: ELAMS 96" HIGH W/ECU GREEN 20KW W/TOC NUMBER 2 We had these in Afghanistan in 2002 and Iraq in 2003. The closest analogy I could think of is a camper. The container is usually on a trailer bed and has expanding sides to form a TOC (Tactical Operations Center) inside it with a 20KW ECU (Environmental Control Unit) to heat or cool it off as needed. All in one container, you extend the sides, set them up and run the generator. You can have a ready to go operational command post set up in about 1-3 hours (they vary by size and I don't know just how big this one is), depending on the time you need to set up desks, chairs, run computer or phone lines and set up your power generators to run all your gadgets. They were designed to be very portable (Air Force transport and helicopter sling load in addition to vehicle pulling) for a unit conducting operations in a more conventional type of war. This probably isn't the exact model Rutherford County acquired since the Army had several variants, but here is a picture to give you an idea of what they look like. Latest Class III: Guesses on Wait Time

Ms. Snook had mine, but I don't think they do it by state anymore. -
Gov. Nixon isn't as stupid as his 5 minute video makes him out to be. He's clearly pandering to the far left base and minority communities and setting himself up to be seen as a "leader" by them no matter what happens. I think he is playing for 2016 and enjoying the free media coverage that is getting his name out nationwide. See how he omits any responsibility on the State of Missouri? If Officer Wilson get's indicted by the grand jury, he was the first politician to have the balls to call for it. If he isn't indicted, he was still the one calling for it, but the fault is with the St. Louis county prosecutor and the AG for "failing to act", not his administration. Sounds like a splendid platform to run on in 2016. With him out front on the issue as an executive, even Hillary would have to play some serious catch-up.

Any interest in putting together a Fantasy Football League of TGO'ers? We can set it up with 8-16 teams and just have some fun talking smack and maybe set up a pool that kicks some money to the site if everybody can find $10-$20 under their mattress that isn't already allocated to ammo. If there is any interest, I'll take up to 15 people who want to be in and suggestions on which site we want to use; ESPN (my current one), Fox Sports, Yahoo, ect...

From what I'm reading, these transfers can be done at no cost other than shipping so DoD doesn't take a budget hit for the program. It was another gem from the War on Drugs we have had great success with. The spreadsheet should have the "original acquisition value" listed, which would explain the cheap prices (to our eyes) since those weapons would have been bought back when those amounts were a normal cost for buying in bulk via government contract.

Ferguson, MO, What would you do if this happened near you
btq96r replied to runco's topic in General Chat
I posted this link in the other thread about what is going on. When this all started, those guys were out front and armed to keep watch, and the looters just passed them by. Makes sense, since even in large numbers mobs want soft targets to hit instead of defended ones. Good luck finding any looters to take point when they would be the first ones dropped by an armed defender. I would concur that some of those owners are from out of town and are getting out of the danger zone before the sun sets each day. Also, I would imagine that with the proper insurance, they are less likely to put themselves in harms way to protect property and inventory that will be covered under their policy. -
Looks like it might be here sooner than I had hoped. I just checked my status online. Very pleased at the turnaround time.

I am about a week behind you in the process. Took the class on the 11th, DMV to finalize the paperwork on the 12th and was fingerprinted on the 13th. Hopefully I'll have the same luck you did and my permit will be here next week.

More of a sympathetic protest to what's going on in Ferguson, MO. http://wgnsradio.com/despite-low-turnout-protest-about-police-brutality-against-people-like-michael-brown-in-missouri-continued-in-murfreesboro-saturday-evening-cms-21659 It was a small as those pictures make it seem. I wasn't exaggerating when I said I could count a Murfreesboro PD officer for every person marching. ETA: Here is a video of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJajlVI9090&feature=youtu.be -

It wasn't even 30 people, half that at best, and some children among them with (presumably) their parents. Between the cops I saw stationary and those doing orbits of the area in their cruisers, they probably had had a 1-1 ratio to all the adult demonstrators. They stepped off around 6:45pm and I lost sight of them as I had ordered food at a local restaurant that I was still eating. Once I finished and paid my check, I tried to find them, but couldn't and went home. Seems the revolution didn't come to Murfreesboro today. Oh well. -

I'm down on the square now and it's quiet as any other night. There are a few "protesters" gathered, but they seem to be waiting for more to show up. There are far more curious white people sitting around. I also saw a big muddy pick-up dtiving around with a large Georgia(?) flag (still has stars and bars) driving around, but only for one pass. I bought a nice Macanudo to smoke while I watch if things get interesting. -
That guy should have dudes in black suits knocking on his door to confiscate his man card anytime now.

John Oliver brought this topic up on his show last week. And yeah, I notice them everywhere I drive now. Sad that so many people need to resort to them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDylgzybWAw

I have a friend who said she is close to loosing it over having to help her oldest kid move to college tomorrow. To compound matters, her husband is overseas drawing combat pay and isn't there to help the emotional burden. To say things are a little emotional is an understatement. But if you are taking your kid to a good school where they can stand on their own, you did a lot of things right as a parent. Congrats.

For those looking to make an upgrade as they switch plans, take a good look at the Nexus 5. The reviews speak for themselves if you want to Google them. This phone will do the same as any Apple or Samsung model that costs about 25-40% more. Unless you are using it for your entire real and online life, this phone can last for years with software upgrades. Plus, with the rumored release of Nexus 6, you can get the Nexus 5 for only $330 unlocked and ready to go with the carrier of your choice. This is what I'm doing the day my current AT&T agreement ends, just switching to their prepaid plan on this phone. No more paying for the phone through inflated charges in a two-year service agreement.
-
I'm pretty happy with the service/coverage of AT&T. I've never really had a connectivity issue where I could expect service to be. But when my contract is up, I'm going pre-paid. Their rates for pre-paid aren't bad at all if you bring your own phone and pop in their SIM card. You could meet your $40 a month, have 500MB of data and still keep the coverage zone of a major carrier, with the ability to change vendors if you want and not pay a termination fee. You could probably get a cheap "older" model smartphone, perfect for your limited needs, off of eBay or a refurbishment site for less that $100-$150 and use it for three years if all you need from a data plan is to run a quick search when needs be. Sounds like the only app you really need for your phone is phone.

So who has eFiled a Form 1?
btq96r replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
Mine came back at 33 days (7/10-8/12). There are enough reports of 30-40 days for this to be a new normal for eForms it seems. Cutting the wait time a paper filing via snail mail is worth the cost of setting up a trust, IMO. -
So I just called these guys and think they will be where I have to go. A bit of a drive for me, but obviously, I want this done right. They seem very comfortable with firearms from the pics on their Facebook page, which counts for a lot. They said their first method would be to sandblast the info on, but when I told her I would be using black model paint to cover up the exposed shiny metal, the sales rep said that might not work for me and I would need a real engraving to be sure. Estimated turn around would be 2 days, which for a full time shop, I guess is to be expected. I'm now thinking my hoping to get it done while I wait was a bit naive. Since I'm still on break, I'll probably go up there Monday and pick it up when it's ready.
