  1.   But why would they have to park in a handicap spot to begin with?  If it isn't an emergency, why couldn't they just park in the regular spots that are open?
  2. Congrats to our league champion, jtmaze.  Since I was lazy about collecting any payments, I went ahead and got him set up with a gift voucher for a year long benefactor membership.  jtmaze, you should be getting an email with the redemption code and instructions to claim the gift voucher.   I'm game for another season next year.  Hopefully I can be a better Commissioner!
  3. Accidentally left a pocket knife in my bag one time while traveling through Indianapolis airport.  I was more upset with myself than I was with loosing the knife.  They offered to let me pay to mail it anywhere in the US I wanted, but the cost was pretty high for something so small and the knife was only a small Gerber folding one, no big loss, so I declined.  Nothing further was made of it and I went through the gate.  Lesson learned.
  4. Sadly, with any system there will be people who game it, or just simply take advantage of it without reason.  I try not to place much faith in humanity, it helps to keep me from being let down.
  5. This is a good thread to bump back to life... I put together this little rig this month. It's mostly Condor gear...yeah, there is better kit out there, but Condor is fine for my predicted use. I might upgrade the rig to the OSOE PALS Micro Rig later on, but I'm happy with what I have for now. Total cost if put together from scratch (I already had a few items laying around) is ~$140, minus the cost of the PMAGs- add another $25 if you consider my dump pouch part of the kit. My goal with this was to embrace a minimalist mindset. I wanted a rig to handle my needs at the range, and function as a grab and go along with a bug out bag in the worst case scenario (which I'm admittedly not spending all that much time and effort planing). For too long in the Army, I had a vest or rack full of the lightest crap ever invented that added up fast, some of it required by the command, the rest I felt I needed. With this, I'll only add something if I realize I need it after longing for it. The rest can stay in my bag which will be close by unless I'm far enough downrange checking targets. Rig Contents 4x AR Mags 1x Pistol Mag 1x Strap Cutter 1x CAT 1x Carabiner 1x Notebook w/pens in the Admin Pouch
  6.   I couldn't miss what was never going to ever happen.  There was only 40 votes in a Democratic Senate for a new AWB, and regardless of what the Senate did a Republican House wasn't going to even bring up any gun control legislation for a vote.       Same train of thought that BATFE can only know if someone constructed an SBR after the fact.  Most of these laws are just to tack on to a list of charges when people get arrested for other things.  That being said, there are plenty of window lickers in the gun community that can't resist posting a video that starts with "What's up YouTube..." and displays how awesome they are.
  7. Yeah, saw this coming.  The poor man's SBR has an expatriation date it seems.   I feel for you guys that might be caught up in this, but when you leave yourself at the mercies of an agency like BAFTE, these are the results you get.  I bet even Sig knew what their product would be used for when they put it out on the market.  I've yet to see or read about one person who bought and shoots the brace as it is marketed by strapping it to the arm and securing it like it's some kind of cyborg enhancement.         The day the NRA starts a no-joke legislative initiative to repeal the NFA laws, they will have my attention and I'll open my checkbook.  Until then, they can take their "sky is falling, send money now to prevent Obama & Pelosi from taking your guns" talk and take a piss.    There's a Republican Congress and a President who want's to have a functioning government until he leaves office.  The time is perfect for some deal making and riders to be on the day to day functioning of government and appropriations bills.  I think the President would cave on an issue like this as he did with the Wall Street stuff during the budget negotiations.
  8.   I agree, the guys method of dealing with it wasn't the right answer at all.
  9. I disagree with scraping ships like that.  If we aren't going to convert it into any kind of training vessel or museum, it needs to be towed out to the South China Sea where we can put on a display of how many ways we can simultaneously put ordinance on target as a demonstration to the region.
  10. Anybody who knows how the local contracting process works over there can tell you that every dollar we've spent in Afghanistan has had percentage points shaved off for all kinds of kickbacks to the Taliban and others.  Same for Iraq, we used to factor in a 15% uptick to account for corruption when dealing with contracts in our AO.  It was sickening.   As far as Bergdahl went, we didn't want to "end" Afghanistan with the Taliban holding an American Soldier, even if he was captured as a result of his own actions.  Too many bad memories of the POW's left behind in Vietnam, and wanting to deny the Taliban a propaganda victory to not make the deal.
  11.   I think it makes the main page of every right wing news sight out there.   From experience, there are many things very unsettling at being assumed to participate in a religious celebration, and the judgement received when it's discovered I choose not to.  The guys behavior is inexcusable, though.  Flipping out on people isn't the right answer in a situation like that.
  12.   There's a big difference between lives taken through crime, and lives taken by representatives of government that has a historical record of abuse towards minorities.  We're not far enough removed from all the bad things that the black community had to live through, all with governmental sanction, to be forgotten easily by them.
  13. And if the airline had said "Ramadan Kareem" to every passenger boarding during that holiday's time frame, that would be cool, too.  Right?
  14.   When they drop the price in a few days, you can curse with the rest of us.
  15.   Much obliged for the kind offer, Dave, but aside from sending some monetary cheer to my goddaughter's, I don't "do" Christmas.  My girlfriend is bringing me some baked goods that should spike my blood sugar- the one thing I'll allow, and there are some good basketball games on tomorrow I'll watch.
  16. Lesson learned, gents.  When I post a product sale link, just wait two weeks, and you can get it for 1/3rd less than I paid for it.   PSA- they're like a bi-polar ex-girlfriend sometimes.
  17. Old news.  This already happened.  I'm sure those wanting the free pass wasn't exclusive to minorities.  My college experience is showing me that shows that weakness of the mind is an equal opportunity disease. http://www.mediaite.com/online/columbia-law-school-delays-finals-for-students-upset-by-garner-ferguson/
  18. And my search for a Chinese restaurant that is open on Xmas day begins anew tomorrow.    For those celebrating the holiday, best wishes for a great day with family and friends.
  19.   It barely showed the gun.  If they had been around the corner, or one of them had their backs to the camera, it would be a he said/he said argument, and in the current environment, that's a recipe for disaster.  Then there is the bad practice in waiting on relying on a business to have a camera system up and running.   The EO signed by the President is for helping to fund the body cams, he can't mandate their use.        I'm more interested in the media having access to the footage.  They will go with whatever they have on hand, and in the absence of any video, they just roll the post crime scene footage.  With the body cam, they'll have evidence they can't ignore.   Having it on hand for investigations after a shooting would be beneficial, too.
  20.   That video wasn't anything great, in my eyes.  I'm astonished that a cell phone can have a better camera than a CCTV setup these days.   Also, from another article in The Guardian, which is a very good news source; The police officer was wearing a body cam, but it was not activated at the time of the shooting. His police vehicle was also fitted with a video camera but it is only activated when the car’s red lights are flashing, and they were not at the time. Belmar said officers were “not used to” the new technology. The surveillance footage from the gas station was described as “really pretty good”.   If the officer had his body cam activated and recording, this case would be even more cut and dry than it is now, with a crystal clear video available that couldn't be disputed.
  21. I guess I've never seen the point of QD on an optic or scope.  The only thing I can see it being practical for is an optic magnifier.
  22.   Just more unconstitutional actions by the deep state that people don't know or don't care about.  I'm sure we'll see some mention of terrorism, or public safety to avoid full disclosure in these cases.  Serves as more proof that oppression and big brother can come from City Hall and your local PD as much as it can come from Washington and the three letter agencies.    I'm hoping that privacy advocates will help push the development of software that will prevent a phone from dropping down to a less secured network.  These guys seem the most likely to get something workable off the ground, but so far only have a few models available for Android.  I wouldn't put any hope in securing an iPhone, they don't really care about privacy.
  23.   I don't care if it's a late night run to McDonald's or take-out dinner from Mafiaoza's...I don't leave a place until I check the order to make sure it's what I ordered.  I also check the receipt as soon as I get it, because more than a few times the issue was it being input wrong, and the person in the back just filled out what the ticket said.   Bottom line, as my old battalion Command Sergeant Major used to say, "if you expect it, inspect it."
  24. I doubt you'll find what you might consider a "good" deal for an iPhone 6 since they are so new.  Maybe after the holiday's you can find a deal, but I wouldn't hope to find one until the demand for them thins out a bit.
  25.   While I do think it would be lower than the cable companies are charging now, I don't know what the prices would be if we got to the point of a la carte cable.  But we shouldn't be surprised if it isn't the great savings we are hoping for.  If cable is on a per channel menu, I think you'll see the cost of ESPN dwarf the others due to their contracts with the NFL and NCAA being whoppers.   I also think that some of the smaller specialty channels that are put onto your packages won't survive on their own.  Not enough people would think to add them, and if they can't generate the revenue, they will be off the air quickly.   Regardless of what could come to pass, getting rid of the cable companies is the best way forward.  With them in the picture, we have a middleman that is beholden to shareholders and will raise rates on the consumer to make sure there is a good dividend at the end of the year for them.  I'm all about getting rid of a middleman who isn't worth their drag weight.  There is no need for them with streaming services and devices like Roku, Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV being affordable options.
