  1. It's just a deployable bayonet.
  2. Reaching out to the TGO community to see if there is anybody who can help a member out.   I have to complete ten hours for an Organizational Service Project for my Organizational Communications class this semester.  Since I usually keep to myself, and haven't been in Murfreesboro all that long, I was hoping someone might be able to help me find an organization that can help me out.  I have to meet the following requirements, with the reflective paper being the hardest part for me to figure out in setting this up.   For this assignment, you must find a nonprofit organization (preferably off campus) and volunteer to help with an event, fundraising, services to clients, etc. Ten hours of volunteer work is required, and the hours must be documented. Student will keep a log of hours worked (signed by supervisor), to be turned in, with the reflective paper The student will use the experience of interacting/communicating with the organization as qualitative information (management and leadership theory, and communication networks) in developing a reflective paper   I'm not afraid of manual labor.  I can also do admin/office work if there is an organization needing some help in that.  Finally, managing this with a full time school load, and a part time job will be the trickiest.  I'm available mostly during the days after 12:30 until before supper, and on weekends.  Monday through Thursday, I have to be back in Murfreesboro for work.    Around the Murfreesboro/Rutherford County area's would be best, but if there is some work I can knock out over a weekend, I'll drive to the Nashville or Chattanooga areas.   Thanks for any help you guys can provide.
  3. Think about buying a phone straight out.  I bought an unlocked Nexus 5 straight out, and I'm enjoying the savings that come with going month to month, not a 2-year contract where the TELCO is recouping the costs of the phone I got a "deal" on.  I'm also able to change providers at my leisure since the phone is unlocked and I'm not locked into a contract.   Plenty of N5's on Ebay for you to consider if you're interested.
  4.   No kidding.  Pro gun legislation, and court decisions have gun rights outpacing gun control, Tennessee notwithstanding.
  5. I just wanted to find out what the hell EE meant when people talked about it on AR15.com and M4Carbine.com.  Seems I've gone and kicked off a modern language convention.
  6. Congratulations on the beautiful baby girl.  Enjoy years 1-13, then brace for the coming storm!
  7. This was the season I've been worried about.  So far, the series has kept remarkably close to the books, but after Season 4/Book 3, the story doesn't seem as TV ready as before.    For starters, books 4&5 occur at the same time, and are split between geographic areas, meaning the main characters split as well.  Not having some of the main characters for an entire season won't fly in the TV show obviously.  Also, the story slows down a bit in books 4&5 to account for the aftermath of the wars, and set up the finishing books, so I expect them to put some dramatic flare into the TV show to keep things interesting.      I'm cautiously optimistic in my hopes that HBO doesn't screw things up.
  8. Just looked at it on AR15.com, and yeah, that's how they list their equivalent of our Trading Post.  Since I only go to that site, and others through a Google search, makes sense that I would miss that bit of knowledge.   Thanks guys.
  9. With the exception of military post offices, I wouldn't even think to ship USPS for overseas needs.  I know that UPS, FedEx, and DHL are a lot pricier, but they're also much more organized and efficient.  This goes double for when you have something that might be caught up with import/export laws.
  10. This is probably an elementary school level question, but it's been perplexing me for sometime.  Lurking on some of the other gun sites, I sometimes read something is for sale or available "on the EE."   So, as my topic title says, just what exactly does it mean?
  11.   I think suicides are fair game for numbers when this was tallied.  Since suicide a very impulsive act, having access to a firearm and ammo makes suicide easier for those who just want a quick way to go.  And I also think a firearm is the method of choice for those who would be too cowardly to use other means that would be messier, cause more pain, ect.   For myself, I've already decided if I ever felt the need to go out on my own terms instead of enduring the ugly and costly side of fighting an incurable disease, I'll use a gun to handle it.   That said, it's still not reason to trample on a Constitutionally protected right.
  12. Just how much sample are we talking for the $10 paid?
  13. Seriously, people are surprised?    Terrorism has already been used to erode protections from the 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, & 8th Amendments, and they've gotten away with it spectacularly.  My only surprise is it's taken this long for the usual suspects to realize they can target the 2nd Amendment via terrorism.
  14. I'm very much on the fence with one of these.  I can see it being a great dual purpose range toy/home defense combo.   I'd put a red dot, white light, Magpul hand stop, and the brace adapter with a CAA saddle kit onto it to make it great for 'me.'  The cost of all that added onto the out of the box cost is the only thing keeping me from doing it.
  15. If I can ask, how much did you have to drop for it?  I've been debating back and forth on getting one of these when some funding avails itself.
  16.   Yup.  The scourging and crucifixion Jesus is described to have gone through, was standard procedure for those the Roman's wanted to make a public example of.
  17.   While I'm not privy to your needs, I highly doubt that any lawyer on your list knows the in's & out's of NFA firearms law like John and Chip know it.  There is a reason they are the two names that come up in thread, after thread, after thread.   The one-time charges aren't that bad if you're already able to afford NFA items.
  18. I can't believe we've just now got to talking about this... :dunno:
  19.   The majority of the deaths have been criminal on criminal, hence why it's a statistics fight, where the anti-gun crowd will jump on it and try to use it to justify bans and the like.  There is nothing new under the sun going on in the city of Al Capone.    Also, the genetic makeup of Chicago politics isn't changing anytime soon.  People are only able to conceal carry by virtue of SCOTUS taking the McDonald case.  But as Ugly points out, honest people have a means to protect themselves now.  That isn't nothing.
  20.   Yes they should.  It's news, and comments from the Police Superintendent about crime are relevant.  I disagree with his conclusions, but he's the guy in the position, and should be quoted.   I really thought the pro-gun crowd made too much noise about the drop in numbers once a concealed carry system was implemented in Chicago.  The term "correlation is not necessarily causation" came to mind.  The numbers were bound to go back on the upswing based on the cesspool that Chicago is.  There are some very nice places there, like Navy Pier, the Soldier Field area, the Field Museum of Natural History...but the majority of the city is fast approaching lost cause status.
  21.   Best advise right here.
  22. I know it must feel hard for him to pass, but reading what you wrote, is about as peaceful and pleasant a way for it to happen as you can hope for so close to 88 years of age.  His handover of the truck keys to his granddaughter is one of the cooler things I've read in a while.
  23. These types of incidents aren't rare, sorry to say.  You can Google enough examples to see that easy enough.  What is lacking, IMO, is accountability.  Fourtyfive, thankfully it seems like this was a straight knock, but too often, these are done with no-knock warrants, or served no-knock style regardless of what the warrant says.   Think about how some of us would have handled it.  A loud pounding at the door when I'm not expecting anyone, or anything...I get my gun before checking the peephole.  Do it at night, or before I'm awake in the morning, and I'm for sure going to think home invasion and respond in that mindset.  Too much potential for trouble in my mind.
  24.   The Second Amendment Foundation does a good job at waging the court battle for firearms rights.  They provided the lead counsel in McDonald v. Chicago among others.  Here is a list of their current caseload.        That $50 million Bloomberg spent was very poorly placed.  It bought a lot of advertising that was preaching to the choir.  Not money well spent.       Few things to address in the parts I put in bold italics.  Lobbying reform after the Abramoff scandal pretty much killed the ability for a lobbyist to engage in a dining and golf offensive to woo a congressman.  Besides, with the rules on campaign finance today, they'd much rather have the cold hard cash on their side.  Donations from PAC's to a candidates committee are at $5K per election cycle, but money from PAC to PAC is open season, and each serious candidate either has a PAC of their own, or one doing the heavy lifting on their behalf.   As to the spending of political funds...targeted effect needs to be the order of the day.  Forget those districts that are super safe ones for anti-gunners, and concentrate on members who represent a pro-gun area, and would not want the NRA funding an opponent either in the primary or the general election.  Next, look at who you want to put on notice.  Members of committees with oversight of the Justice Department, and the judiciary committees should be tier 1 targets, with party leadership being tier 2.  Don;t just spread the money around willy nilly to each district, use it to make a point and pick your battles.
