Seriously, people are surprised? Terrorism has already been used to erode protections from the 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, & 8th Amendments, and they've gotten away with it spectacularly. My only surprise is it's taken this long for the usual suspects to realize they can target the 2nd Amendment via terrorism.

I'm very much on the fence with one of these. I can see it being a great dual purpose range toy/home defense combo. I'd put a red dot, white light, Magpul hand stop, and the brace adapter with a CAA saddle kit onto it to make it great for 'me.' The cost of all that added onto the out of the box cost is the only thing keeping me from doing it.
-
If I can ask, how much did you have to drop for it? I've been debating back and forth on getting one of these when some funding avails itself.
-
Yup. The scourging and crucifixion Jesus is described to have gone through, was standard procedure for those the Roman's wanted to make a public example of.

I found something for all the Sig brace owners out there.

It's funny, because it's true. -
While I'm not privy to your needs, I highly doubt that any lawyer on your list knows the in's & out's of NFA firearms law like John and Chip know it. There is a reason they are the two names that come up in thread, after thread, after thread. The one-time charges aren't that bad if you're already able to afford NFA items.

I can't believe we've just now got to talking about this... :dunno:

The majority of the deaths have been criminal on criminal, hence why it's a statistics fight, where the anti-gun crowd will jump on it and try to use it to justify bans and the like. There is nothing new under the sun going on in the city of Al Capone. Also, the genetic makeup of Chicago politics isn't changing anytime soon. People are only able to conceal carry by virtue of SCOTUS taking the McDonald case. But as Ugly points out, honest people have a means to protect themselves now. That isn't nothing.
-
Yes they should. It's news, and comments from the Police Superintendent about crime are relevant. I disagree with his conclusions, but he's the guy in the position, and should be quoted. I really thought the pro-gun crowd made too much noise about the drop in numbers once a concealed carry system was implemented in Chicago. The term "correlation is not necessarily causation" came to mind. The numbers were bound to go back on the upswing based on the cesspool that Chicago is. There are some very nice places there, like Navy Pier, the Soldier Field area, the Field Museum of Natural History...but the majority of the city is fast approaching lost cause status.

Best advise right here.

I know it must feel hard for him to pass, but reading what you wrote, is about as peaceful and pleasant a way for it to happen as you can hope for so close to 88 years of age. His handover of the truck keys to his granddaughter is one of the cooler things I've read in a while.

These types of incidents aren't rare, sorry to say. You can Google enough examples to see that easy enough. What is lacking, IMO, is accountability. Fourtyfive, thankfully it seems like this was a straight knock, but too often, these are done with no-knock warrants, or served no-knock style regardless of what the warrant says. Think about how some of us would have handled it. A loud pounding at the door when I'm not expecting anyone, or anything...I get my gun before checking the peephole. Do it at night, or before I'm awake in the morning, and I'm for sure going to think home invasion and respond in that mindset. Too much potential for trouble in my mind.

The Second Amendment Foundation does a good job at waging the court battle for firearms rights. They provided the lead counsel in McDonald v. Chicago among others. Here is a list of their current caseload. That $50 million Bloomberg spent was very poorly placed. It bought a lot of advertising that was preaching to the choir. Not money well spent. Few things to address in the parts I put in bold italics. Lobbying reform after the Abramoff scandal pretty much killed the ability for a lobbyist to engage in a dining and golf offensive to woo a congressman. Besides, with the rules on campaign finance today, they'd much rather have the cold hard cash on their side. Donations from PAC's to a candidates committee are at $5K per election cycle, but money from PAC to PAC is open season, and each serious candidate either has a PAC of their own, or one doing the heavy lifting on their behalf. As to the spending of political funds...targeted effect needs to be the order of the day. Forget those districts that are super safe ones for anti-gunners, and concentrate on members who represent a pro-gun area, and would not want the NRA funding an opponent either in the primary or the general election. Next, look at who you want to put on notice. Members of committees with oversight of the Justice Department, and the judiciary committees should be tier 1 targets, with party leadership being tier 2. Don;t just spread the money around willy nilly to each district, use it to make a point and pick your battles.

The event that would be the catalyst to a confiscation effort (ie: Katrina in New Orleans) would make me think government and LEO's would pay no heed to such a law and do what they wanted to anyway. To me it's not an out of the blue threat, but the crisis situation that would be my primary concern, and in a crisis, we know laws in America aren't very reliable.

It's a fake site. Read the rest of the stories on there and it's pretty clear. As to this story, HR 4783 was introduced in the last congress, and never even made it to a committee vote. The bill was an anti-gun one, but never had a chance. I also couldn't find anything about video games in it. So, they made it all up. https://www.congress.gov/bill/113th-congress/house-bill/4783/all-actions

So why aren't they blaming the plane?

Do your job, that patient's medical team is probably counting on the system to be up and running. Working IT at a medical center, this type of trouble ticket shouldn't be a total shock. If you still are having issues with it, you may need a new job. What if they needed help while a guy was in surgery?

Cool. I'll go back to not caring.

Is this in Tennessee, or in Vero Beach?
-
Concur. I was thinking this is the way to go, too. But I'd consolidate 2-3 bills into one small size omnibus style package if that is allowed in the TN legislature. When I get those emails from TFA about pending legislation, and read about it here, it seems like too much clutter for one session, and it's easy to pick apart smaller pieces. Pick 2-3 issues, that have a simple, really simple message, preferably something that is already implemented in a few states so we can show the world isn't falling there, and push those changes in only one bill. It's far too late for 2015, which is probably for the better. Do this next year, an election year, and promise that a no vote on a slimmed down prioritized gun agenda will be held against them in primaries and general elections. Don't let them say well, I voted for "insert name of random bill," as they ignore the others. Make the conversation about their support or lack of support for the only pro-gun legislation in the year before they voted. Get Sen. Beavers, Rep. Van Huss, and the other real supporters of 2A rights on board to make sure it's all handled that way, then dare the usual suspects to vote against the one and only bill that would expand gun rights in TN the year their names are on a ballot.

Would you SBR a Palmetto lower?
btq96r replied to maroonandwhite's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
I SBR'd an AR-15 PSA lower last year. No issues, no regrets, more money for accessories and ammo. -
STILL NEED SOME VOLUNTEERS AT NRA SHOW I JUST SIGNED UP
btq96r replied to Ron Padilla's topic in General Chat
No kidding. Look at these jobs, and tell me they can't find people to fill them from the local area, or from people who are traveling to the area and wouldn't mind a chance to earn some spending money. http://www.nraam.org/volunteer/volunteer.aspx -
I have a 12 gauge shotgun. I don't shoot it that often (I should shoot it more, I know), but I'm not as worried since the prices of ammo seem steady and a run on 12g shells seems very uncommon compared to the other calibers.
-
I might not get out to the range more, but I think I would shoot more than I am now, Also, if there is an ammo run, I slow down my consumption rate. I had a few chuckles looking at all the "buy it now" panic sales of Green Tip, because I had about 500rds from my last purchase, and could afford to wait for the situation to sort itself out. It's also worth noting, that even if I can only find a box of a certain type of ammo, I would still need a gun to shoot it, and going out and buying a gun to cover all the common calibers seems counterproductive. My goal in this would be to gradually stockpile the calibers listed, waiting for a fair deal as finances allow. As long as I don't shoot more than is coming in, it will build up in the long run. If it helps others understand my thought process, I'm trying to think about the situation in 3-5 years, so I can be ahead of the next event that throws ammo cost and availability into chaos.
-
So do I. Hell, I took my GSG-522 to the range today just to have some fun in between serious pistol shooting. But while multiple calibers is half the fun, I'd like it to not be half my wallet. I'm in the same boat. I really think I can "do more with less" if I go to 9mm. Meaning I can get more rounds for practice, and negate the loss in size. Plus, 9mm is a much more universal round, and has a lot more options for future purchases.
