  1. HBO took hits for using a lot of female nudity that wasn't in the book as well.  They do it to advance stories, as a setting for dialogue that the book has somewhere else that makes building a new set impractical, or to condense info from multiple characters into one TV role- like they did with that prostitute who left Winterfell, worked for Littlefinger's brothel, then became a spy for Varys before she was turned into an arrow target.
  2. Should probably change your link with this direct one, as new posts to the blog will bump the NFA one down. http://blog.princelaw.com/2015/04/10/shocking-statementsconcessions-by-atf-at-the-nra-firearms-law-seminar/   The quality of invalid trusts from low quality preparation is a great point for the ATF to bring up.  Here on TGO, we've had discussions about using our two resident attorneys to draft a trust versus just buying one off the internet.  I saw the bit of extra money spent going to an attorney as an investment for protection when entering a world full of federal regulation.  But, this being America, if you can get a low enough price to show up on page 1 of a Google search, you're going to get people's business.   I also think the sheer number of Trusts popping up will keep ATF from implementing 41P.  For the purposes of saving face, they won't officially back down, just keep pushing the timeline for a final decision to the right, requiring more research, implementing a study...but in the end a bureaucratic surrender is good enough for our purposes.
  3.   Jade Helm is just a training exercise.  The Special Ops guys are trying to get back to some core skills that are perishable and suffered from repeated deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.  If you look at the maps where they are training, it mirrors the challenges/differences in geography and size that running missions in the Middle East and Africa bring.  It's as much an exercise for the staffs, planning, and logistics folks as it is the guys at the pointy end of the spear.   As to the cops being dressed for battle...they think they're bad ass.  Simple as that.        I think a lot of the "mentality" could be cured by making LEO's go back to a standard uniform set.  City cops- black, blue, some solid color based on the season if desired.  County Sheriff- Tan or Green.  No camouflage whatsofuckinever as there is really no call for it in a law enforcement setting that I can see.  Even a SWAT team has no real need for camo.  Unless someone can tell me how woodland camo for a city environment makes sense for an element that isn't trying to hide.   Were I ever in charge of a LE agency, I'd also take care to look at the kit they use.  Level II-IIIa soft armor should be enough for daily patrols, hard armor should only be worn during high risk situations, the everyday threat it's made for just isn't there.  Perception matters when interacting with the public and I'm sick of seeing Americans subject to the same styles and techniques we used on Iraqis and Afghans.
  4.   Small correction to that- the people with the itty bitty star in the lower left represents military service, and a badge icon represents police service.   Both are for current, retired, or in between.  I only did 8 1/2 years in the Army, so I didn't retire, just "got out" of the military.
  5.   Jade Helm is just an exercise for SOF troops who actually need the training in varied operating environments to keep sharp.  These LEO's are just dressing up in whatever looks good from the latest tacticool catalog, purpose immaterial.  That's why you see things like the shoulder protectors meant to protect from shrapnel from IED's.    It's a joke to those of us who can pick apart their kit and configuration.  Their desert boots will be replaced by clown shoes should they ever need to put their fashion into action.  I especially love how the guy I posted the pic of has an admin pouch over his mag pouches.  $5 says he has Snickers bars taking priority over magazines.
  6.   I'll go one further.  If I'm ever stopped by a team that looks like that, I'm not saying anything, at all.  I'll hand them my license, registration and insurance as required by law on request, and sign a citation if given one.  But I won't answer any questions, or say anything else to the officers.   If that's policing, I'm not cooperating with it.
  7. Judas Priest. An armored vehicle for a traffic stop? As if the whole thing didn't have enough of a Fallujah vibe to it, check out how one of the officers was decked out for battle enforcing the law. That’s a US Marine Corps camouflage pattern under all that body armor designed to protect against IED shrapnel, which I’m sure they see plenty of in Gainesville, Florida.
  8.   It's just immature.  Besides if an officer can't summon the patience to deal with someone flipping them off and "wouldn't take it very long," I don't want that person wearing a badge, and the powers that come with it.
  9. My local Walmart at least is still selling AR's. However at those prices, for those brands/models, they aren't selling them to me.
  10. It's just a deployable bayonet.
  11. Reaching out to the TGO community to see if there is anybody who can help a member out.   I have to complete ten hours for an Organizational Service Project for my Organizational Communications class this semester.  Since I usually keep to myself, and haven't been in Murfreesboro all that long, I was hoping someone might be able to help me find an organization that can help me out.  I have to meet the following requirements, with the reflective paper being the hardest part for me to figure out in setting this up.   For this assignment, you must find a nonprofit organization (preferably off campus) and volunteer to help with an event, fundraising, services to clients, etc. Ten hours of volunteer work is required, and the hours must be documented. Student will keep a log of hours worked (signed by supervisor), to be turned in, with the reflective paper The student will use the experience of interacting/communicating with the organization as qualitative information (management and leadership theory, and communication networks) in developing a reflective paper   I'm not afraid of manual labor.  I can also do admin/office work if there is an organization needing some help in that.  Finally, managing this with a full time school load, and a part time job will be the trickiest.  I'm available mostly during the days after 12:30 until before supper, and on weekends.  Monday through Thursday, I have to be back in Murfreesboro for work.    Around the Murfreesboro/Rutherford County area's would be best, but if there is some work I can knock out over a weekend, I'll drive to the Nashville or Chattanooga areas.   Thanks for any help you guys can provide.
  12. Think about buying a phone straight out.  I bought an unlocked Nexus 5 straight out, and I'm enjoying the savings that come with going month to month, not a 2-year contract where the TELCO is recouping the costs of the phone I got a "deal" on.  I'm also able to change providers at my leisure since the phone is unlocked and I'm not locked into a contract.   Plenty of N5's on Ebay for you to consider if you're interested.
  13.   No kidding.  Pro gun legislation, and court decisions have gun rights outpacing gun control, Tennessee notwithstanding.
  14. I just wanted to find out what the hell EE meant when people talked about it on AR15.com and M4Carbine.com.  Seems I've gone and kicked off a modern language convention.
  15. Congratulations on the beautiful baby girl.  Enjoy years 1-13, then brace for the coming storm!
  16. This was the season I've been worried about.  So far, the series has kept remarkably close to the books, but after Season 4/Book 3, the story doesn't seem as TV ready as before.    For starters, books 4&5 occur at the same time, and are split between geographic areas, meaning the main characters split as well.  Not having some of the main characters for an entire season won't fly in the TV show obviously.  Also, the story slows down a bit in books 4&5 to account for the aftermath of the wars, and set up the finishing books, so I expect them to put some dramatic flare into the TV show to keep things interesting.      I'm cautiously optimistic in my hopes that HBO doesn't screw things up.
  17. Just looked at it on AR15.com, and yeah, that's how they list their equivalent of our Trading Post.  Since I only go to that site, and others through a Google search, makes sense that I would miss that bit of knowledge.   Thanks guys.
  18. With the exception of military post offices, I wouldn't even think to ship USPS for overseas needs.  I know that UPS, FedEx, and DHL are a lot pricier, but they're also much more organized and efficient.  This goes double for when you have something that might be caught up with import/export laws.
  19. This is probably an elementary school level question, but it's been perplexing me for sometime.  Lurking on some of the other gun sites, I sometimes read something is for sale or available "on the EE."   So, as my topic title says, just what exactly does it mean?
  20.   I think suicides are fair game for numbers when this was tallied.  Since suicide a very impulsive act, having access to a firearm and ammo makes suicide easier for those who just want a quick way to go.  And I also think a firearm is the method of choice for those who would be too cowardly to use other means that would be messier, cause more pain, ect.   For myself, I've already decided if I ever felt the need to go out on my own terms instead of enduring the ugly and costly side of fighting an incurable disease, I'll use a gun to handle it.   That said, it's still not reason to trample on a Constitutionally protected right.
  21. Just how much sample are we talking for the $10 paid?
  22. Seriously, people are surprised?    Terrorism has already been used to erode protections from the 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, & 8th Amendments, and they've gotten away with it spectacularly.  My only surprise is it's taken this long for the usual suspects to realize they can target the 2nd Amendment via terrorism.
  23. I'm very much on the fence with one of these.  I can see it being a great dual purpose range toy/home defense combo.   I'd put a red dot, white light, Magpul hand stop, and the brace adapter with a CAA saddle kit onto it to make it great for 'me.'  The cost of all that added onto the out of the box cost is the only thing keeping me from doing it.
  24. If I can ask, how much did you have to drop for it?  I've been debating back and forth on getting one of these when some funding avails itself.
  25.   Yup.  The scourging and crucifixion Jesus is described to have gone through, was standard procedure for those the Roman's wanted to make a public example of.
