The Brownells series is pretty straightforward. For building a lower, you want #42-50 on this playlist. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLa6yB5pDvYiiR1KVxS1yrjYr9u9SL31RL They aren't kidding about all those parts. I had a detent pin go airborne when I put together my lower. I was on hands and knees for a few minutes looking for it.

A few months back I took a girl I was banging to Outpost Armory when she was looking at buying her first gun. The staff there were top notch in dealing with us. We had as much time as we needed to let her get a feel and work the action on about a dozen models of guns. Once she picked out a gun she liked- a Glock 19- I explained to her that on a common brand like that, online ordering and the FFL transfer process could save her money with research and patience. I even went so far as to research an FFL in her hometown that could handle it, but she didn't care. She wanted the gun that day, so we could go shooting the next day, and that was that. There was more involved in the value of the sale for her than just the price comparison on the gun. She also appreciated that they were willing to be so patient with a new shooter, and that they had so many models to offer her for comparisons sake. She said those things helped Outpost earn that sale as well. Bingo. If you aren't willing to pay what they want, you took yourself out of the sale by your own decision. Maybe if the business closes their doors due to pricing themselves out of a market you can have a hearty "told you so" moment, but who wants to be that petty?

Didn't take the quiz because I'm too tired to do basic arithmetic after a long day, but I found this part irrelevant: +1 point if you have at least $500 in cash on hand right now. +1 point if you own at least 100 oz. of silver or 5 oz. of gold and have it in your physical possession. +1 point if you have substantial savings in any currency other than U.S. dollars. If there is truly a SHTF moment and a breakdown of economy and government services, I can't see US currency or any foreign currency holding value past kindling. Also, I still wonder what you can trade gold or silver for when people need bullets water or food more than anything else. I know I'm only going to listen to barter offers that include things I would need.

How'd that thought process work out circa 1861?

I'd want something with retention and probably more sturdy than a leather holster...kydex or some other plastic. The drop in height looks like it's a good, but I'd have to wear it to be sure.

While the example the OP gave doesn't fit, the pattern of similar topics being brought up on multiple sites is valid. Easy enough to happen because most of the people on gun sites read the same conservative news sources, and some are on multiple sites. I'm on M4C, but rarely post there and another military site I post on semi-regularly, and on both those other sites, I see the same topics come up around the same times. Just a way news is being spread in the modern age...I equate it to the way taverns were used for news and debate in the past.

Would like the grip about 4-6" lower than it currently sits. Have a Walther P99 right now, but I may have a H&K VP9 if I can squirrel away enough cash at the end of the year.
-
Anybody have links/sources for a low sitting (riding?) holster? I have long arms and a standard belt mounted holster usually puts the grip near my elbow, and that's to high for my taste unless I want to keep it concealed. Looking for something that would put it below my hip, but isn't a drop leg holster; I came to hate those in Iraq.

Not really, Scott Walker is a fairly consistent conservative Governor. Barring that, there is the fact that as a GOP primary candidate who needs a win, or at least a strong 2nd place finish in Iowa to raise money and be relevant going into New Hampshire and South Carolina, he can't afford to look the least bit weak on a core issue like the 2nd Amendment.

Never used Uber, but I would imagine that the no guns thing is buried in their Terms & Conditions we all never read, and since the money is transferred electronically via the app and a linked card/account, that there wouldn't be any prorating if you're found to be in violation of their rules. That's if you get made carrying. I'd also imagine that it would take someone going Open Carry Texas style for a driver to notice.
-
Pretty much. Uber is to cab drivers as ATM's were to bank teller's. There will still be a need for some, but not in the numbers they have now.

It's not in the General Chat forum. Poke around Handgun Carry and Self Defense or Tactics and Training, ask the question if you don't see something that points you I the right direction. I'd also recommend reading the review threads, our members are pretty good at pointing out what matters in the class. Also, we don't CCP here in Tennessee, we HCP. I guess they'll explain that in the class. ETA: I see you also posted in Handgun Carry and Self Defense...then came here. Were you hoping for a right now answer or something?

You can't wear those unless you have matching assless chaps.

I think we're about to see some postings by the 10%... :P -
Yeah, I'm a creature of habit with my stock as well. I also move it around quite a bit between storage, shooting, in and out of my range bag, my truck...so having it where I can just move it easily is what I'd prefer.
-
Aside from the look, what's the difference between this and a CTR stock? The price is about the same depending on vendor. I have MOE stocks on both my AR's and the wobble while annoying, isn't really noticeable once I'm shooting.

I've been here for a year and some change and have near daily interactions with members on the forum here. I've sought opinions, advice, and what could be called leads for personal and professional reasons. I've also met members, gone shooting with members, and had members in my own home. But I would never presume to cold ask someone if they would let me onto their land to shoot even with that level of familiarity. Accepting an offer would be one thing, seeking it out just seems bad form to me.
-
First post and you're asking someone to let you use their land? Then again you mention it in a the New Member Introductions forum. Any lunch and beverage requests to go along with that as well? Mayhaps get to know a few members via interaction here, meet up if we ever get a lunch or dinner scheduled...then try to shimmy your way onto someones land for a free shoot.

Bad guy with gun shot by good guy with gun
btq96r replied to chances R's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
True. Though, I'd chock this up to legislative ignorance more than anything else. At best, that sounds like a law to stop overzealous prosecution before stand your ground laws came into play. And I missed the he's a felon part, which is a big deal. A convicted felon carrying a gun and avoiding prosecution because of a law that would probably be changed if our legislators knew half as much as we do here. Great fuel for the anti-gunners. It does bring up that there should be a restoration of rights process even for felons. If this guy has been on the up and up for long enough to demonstrate he's moved on in life, his past shouldn't be held against him. Where that magic number is, and if this guy is at it yet, I'm not sure. -

This shooting I'm fine with. The guy followed the letter of the law by having the gun in his vehicle, and not taking it out of the vehicle until he saw a threat. Had another person been carrying without a permit while say, walking from his house to the store to get milk or something, then came upon the incident and acted, it still doesn't negate that he was carrying without a permit. I get that Constitutional Carry is the answer, but while we have a law on hand, and one that would clearly be upheld by even this conservative court it should be respected. -

Can't say I like that. In my mind, carrying without a permit should be separate and prosecutable, even if using the weapon is justified...unless the state has a Constitutional Carry law in effect. -
Rise in guns turning fights deadly in Clarksville
btq96r replied to FortKnox's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I honestly never saw hookers in Clarksville when I was stationed at Campbell. I did see plenty of double wide women in the clubs and bars looking for an ID card. There was also the time I tried to get into Catwest strip club, but was turned away at the door, because apparently vomit on my shirt wasn't allowed under the dress code or something...but that's a different story for a different time. -

So, if he hadn't been in the car when seeing this, but rather was carrying without a permit from Point A to Point B and walked in during a robbery in progress, he would be covered for the shoot, but prosecutable under carrying without a permit, right? -

btq96r replied to FortKnox's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Clarksville is pretty much a tale of two cities as I remember it from my time there between 2001-2012. There is the Clarksville that's in the shadow of Fort Campbell, and has a predominant military community, then there is the rest of Clarksville. If they had a density map of where the incidents were taking place, I'd wager that part of town would be a bright red. If gang activity- of any type or race- managed to take root there, I wouldn't be shocked at all. -

While I'd like to see more information to test my hypothesis, I think it's simply a byproduct of our societies pussification leading to more guns equaling more problems. If, as I think, there is a large number of people under 30 in these cases, imagine how many of them have never learned to handle their own problems because of how schools and society in general look at violence. Having never gotten into any fights at school, or growing up, when things escalate, and the prospect of a real fight is in their face, fright takes over, and they're reaching for a gun if they have one. That said, the inability of others to manage risk and handle conflicts doesn't matter to my rights under the 2nd Amendment.
