FYI A 5 gallon bucket of sand will not stop a .40 round so it sure as hell won't stop a 5.56. I added several inches of pea gravel to the bottom then sand on top of that, that took care of it for .40

As someone who has been a victim of a business pushing their inept management problems down onto the employees backs take this as a sign that these people have no regard whatsoever for you. Why would you want to work for people like that? I watched round after round of layoffs, wage cuts, facility consolidations, right down to the end where they kicked the last of us to the curb. I know things are rough in the economy but they are a hell of a lot rougher being unemployed looking for a job, get looking now!

kdpate, I'd go with what you have if it becomes a problem you could always add a 1/4" steel plate on the bottom to stiffen and spread the load a bit.
