There is the dilemma. ALL makers build good and bad; it just happens. Not trashing Taurus at all, but it seems that the ratio of bad/good is higher there. And that's what I try to look at.

That was uncalled for. My one HK has never given me trouble; I can't say that about one of the multiple Taurii I've had over the years. Back on topic... check around regularly at the local gun shops. You should be able to find something that will be close to your price range, with patience. If you're in a hurry, it won't be easy.

If you have to go .380 (or want to), FWIW would suggest a SIG P230; light and small enough to go in a pocket, but a big enough grip to get a hand on, and absolute reliability.
