  1. i hope you didn't take my response as bashing. i truly respect you for speaking what you believe and wanting to make an educated decision. i was trying to give you a historical perspective of the situation and offer new information for your decision. i truly believe that neither of these candidates are that great, but i think that one offers a much less scary future.
  2. its a given that obama is a better speaker than mccain. that doesn't make him more qualified to be president. that just makes him a better speaker. there are many things being said by both campaigns about each other. none of that matters. all you have to do is look at history. socialism does not work. people give fdr credit for getting us out of the great depression. its simply not true. his policies extended the depression if anything. the war got us out of the depression, not the new deal. http://newsroom.ucla.edu/portal/ucla/FDR-s-Policies-Prolonged-Depression-5409.aspx In 1940, after he had been in office for 8 years, unemployment was about 18%. In 1943, it was 1%. 1943 by the way is what most consider the end of the great depression. Creating lots of jobs to make bullets and guns and tanks, along with sending a bunch of men to Europe as soldiers got us out of the depression. I still credit fdr with being a good leader. I am very thankful for his foreign policy getting us into ww2. I do not however credit him with getting us out of the great depression. A decade is too long to stay in an economic downturn if you ask me. This is why I was opposed to the bailout among other things. It might make it a little less painful now, but it only extends the pain. I also don't want a ww3 to get us back to prosperity. I don't think it will work like that again with the advent of nuclear weapons. "if you don't learn from history, you are doomed to repeat it." we aren't anywhere near the great depression, but the policies didn't work. the depression lasted for 14 years. if the free-market would have been allowed to work, it would have been over much sooner. vote for the free-market. don't vote for socialism.
  3. yeah, i definitely plan on getting the vq hammer to ease the trigger a bit. after that i think i'll be pretty pleased with it. I got to shoot my friends m1 and mosin nagant today, and that was a ton of fun. we shot some clay targets for a bit of fun. I think an m1 and a box of clay targets could keep me entertained for a long time :-)
  4. its with a scope, from a bench, with a makeshift bag as a rest. I am not unhappy with the 1" groups per say, its more that those are maybe 1 out of 8 groups :-) 1" is certainly not the average group.
  5. Well, I have been practicing with plenty of rounds down range this week. My best group from 50 yards is just under 1". I'm certainly not satisfied with this, but it is an improvement
  6. The gun is a remington 597 that I have been mostly very happy with. The only thing I want to change is it has a very heavy trigger. Other than that it has been great. I live south of nashville and went to last months mid-tenn meet and shoot. I was hoping to go this month as well but i have plans the weekend it is being held. As far as the shooting alot I have been doing that. I just joined owl hollow gun club which I really enjoy and it has the added benefit of being close to my house. Really the thing is I don't want to practice bad habits because I don't know any better. I don't even really know what qualifies as a "good" group from 50 yards so I'm not sure just how bad I suck or what to strive for.
  7. I am new to shooting and would like information on learning how to shoot. I bought a .22lr to learn with. Any information is welcomed, as well as good resources to look into. Also, I am wondering if I should get a shooting bag. I have noticed that many people use them when I am at the range, but I don't know if they are using them specifically for sighting or to improve accuracy. Is this something I should take advantage of or not.
  8. i think we can all agree would would rather see Palin's picture in the news for the next four years than Biden or Obama. On a serious note, Biden did his job in that he didn't do anything really stupid. Palin did her part in that she looked like she had a clue unlike in her interviews. I felt like Biden could only hurt his ticket and not really help it going in and he avoided that. Palin had the chance to stop her free fall and make herself credible which certainly helps the mccain ticket. I think she did that. I don't think it will change too much, but I think it stops the decline and maybe tightens the race back up a little bit.
  9. I can't make it the weekend of the 18th either, but i'd love to come if it was the 11th - 12th weekend.
  10. well i ended up getting the remington 597. i took it for a test drive saturday and it wasn't too bad. it did jam up like twice as mentioned earlier in the thread but if that goes away after a few hundred rounds i am fine with that as everything else was good.
  11. I am new to shooting and have been told that a 22 is a good way to learn. i am wondering which is better, savage or remington?
