  1. What about the city government buildings in Memphis?
  2. Sportsman's Warehouse in Southaven is about the best in this area as far as components.  Bass Pro doesn't have hardly any components and is overpriced.
  3. Does this bill mean that any no gun signs put up by counties and towns will be invalid?
  4. It was my understanding that you cannot have intent to go armed with a firearm on school property unless you are picking up or dropping off passengers or you are covered under safe commute.   I thought that if you didn't fall under those exceptions, you would need to unload before you even got to the school and put it in the trunk.
  5. I understand that the person with the handgun carry permit must be in control of the car, but it would have been simpler to just state that anyone can have a loaded firearm in ANY vehicle parked anywhere.   The politicians made this more complicated than it had to be because like I said, if I am riding as passenger in a friend's car, and we stop at a school for a meeting, I am not covered as far as putting a loaded pistol in his car's console if he does not have a handgun carry permit.   It was a poorly written bill, even with this year's revisions, and made more complicated than it had to be.
  6. I guess it wasn't much of a priority to the politicians to pass anything meaningful for folks with handgun carry permits.  They want to say they are Pro 2nd Amendment but then they don't want you to be able to carry a gun anywhere, even with a permit.  If they were truly 2nd Amendment, they would let people with permits walk around the metal detectors at the Statehouse in Nashville.    Just remember that they want for us to pay for a permit to keep a gun in our car but then the permit isn't good in a lot of places outside your car.  A lot of states don't even make people pay for a permit to do the same thing as far as keeping a gun in your car.  I can 10 minutes across the state line in Mississippi and have any kind of loaded gun in my  car or anyone else's car without a license, no matter where that car is parked.  If I was a Mississippi resident, I could get an enhanced license and carry inside schools.  People in Mississippi can go to Rangemaster and take basically the same class we take in TN and carry just about anywhere an off duty cop can carry.  Schools, 'no gun signs', any park are all ok with an enhanced license.  I guess the TN politicians are scared of folks with permits.   The whole safe commute deal was written so poorly that you cannot even store a loaded pistol in a car that you are a passenger in if you say stop at a school.  These guys can't even write a bill plain enough that states people can keep loaded pistols in any car on school property WITH a permit.  The car must be 'in your possession' which I take it as you must be the driver or own the car.   I'm convinced that 2nd amendment wise that this majority R in TN is not much better than the D majority a few years ago.  What have the R's done for us after having a super majority the past few years?  Not much of anything, except making permit records confidential.
  7. It looks like House leadership killed the bill anyway to avoid a floor vote.  It will be interesting to see if the park bill is stalled just like the open carry bill.
  8. According to the news tonight, the House leadership shut down the whole open carry bill.  No floor vote.  I wonder what will happen with the whole park carry bill?
  9. It's a joke that you even have to buy a permit here to keep a gun in a vehicle.
  10. I think this is a good bill because it is only against the law to conceal a handgun instead of carrying openly.  This treats carry as a right instead of a paid privilege.
  11. It looks like it will be stalled just like the park deal so that the House does not have a floor vote on it.
  12. I don't particularly care for HOA's, but can put up with them as long as they just stick to mowing the common areas and repairing neighborhood entrance fences.  A lot of problems can come out of HOA's with folks who want to bother their neighbors over petty disputes and preferences.
  13. How about this senator gives up her US Marshal creds that allow her to carry a handgun anywhere in the country.  She should also give up any taxpayer funded protection she receives from Capitol Police and other feds.  What is good for others should be good for her.
  14. The politicians want us to pay money for a permit and then not be able to carry the gun anywhere but our cars.  That makes perfect sense.
  15. I don't think this version requires those signs to be dropped either.  Maybe I am wrong.
  16. Is the bill dead now?
  17. Could you persuade the legislature to remove the whole intent to go armed felony offense for knives at schools?
  18. Is there any more information regarding this bill?  Does it have time to pass?  When does the legislative session end?
  19. It looks like the park carry bill passed the House subcommittee today.
  20. Is there any way these guys can clean up the whole knives at schools law?  Did the knife rights organization not try to pursue that?  It appears that is a poorly written law that can mess someone up over a pocket knife at a school.
  21. This is a bad law that needs to be changed then.  No one should not have to worry about a weapons charge over carrying a case knife or swiss army knife at a school, especially adults.  Can the legislature not change this law as the legislature is changing the switchblade law?  Has anyone asked state reps and state senators to get this joke changed?    This article though backs up to me that just possessing a knife is not 'intent to go armed'.  To me, it would be like having a baseball bat in the vehicle with a glove to obviously play baseball is not intent to go armed, but having a baseball bat with the purpose of self defense is intent to go armed.   Even though the rules may be different for colleges VS high schools, the state knife laws for schools are obviously the same.   http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2012/aug/24/lawmakers-question-gun-and-knife-rules-for-ut/
  22. My understanding is that you have to be carrying a switchblade or bowie WITH intent to go armed at a school for it to be illegal.  Just having an ordinary pocket knife at a school, such as a swiss army knife, for use as a tool does not seem to be illegal by reading the law.  If that were the case, a good chunk of male college students would be breaking the law for having pocket knives as tools or people who have the window glass breakers that cut seat belts in cars.
  23. I'm assuming that possessing an ordinary knife, like a case or swiss army knife, as a tool is not against this knives at school law?  But if you carried a bowie knife, with the 'intent to go armed', then that is against the law?    That is the way I read the law but I do not know if that is right.
  24. I don't think there is a federal law against knives at schools.   In some states, you can legally carry a handgun at a school if you have a license.
  25. A knife is a tool like any other tool and can be used for good or bad.  What is the difference between a knife, a tire iron, or a flashlight?  All can be used to hurt someone and all can be used to fix things.  99% of the time such objects are used as tools.    So are the rescue knives with the glass breakers also considered 'weapons' by the all knowing public school educators?   It seems like the schools are more concerned with turning young men into sissies and making the public afraid of ordinary objects than actually teaching school.  Do these schools not have Home Ec or shop anymore?
