  1. Long guns are not weapons in the unlawful carrying of weapons law in Texas.  They can be carried loaded openly or concealed or kept in your vehicle loaded.  No one there carries long guns outside of vehicles in public.   Handguns and clubs are classified as weapons and are generally illegal to carry with some exceptions.   You can carry a handgun in Texas of course on your own property or business however you want, going to or from or while hunting/fishing/outdoor activity (open or conceal), traveling (open or conceal), or CONCEALED in your vehicle.  You have to have a license there to carry outside of those circumstances and you have to conceal.  But you could leave your house to go deer hunting with a 357 mag strapped on in the open and carry it on your way to your lease without a CHL.    They sadly have signs that basically can make your CHL worthless and subject you to a Class A Misdemeanor.  Fortunately the signs have to be in English and Spanish and an exact wording, and I've honestly never seen one in any of the bigger cities in Texas.  They are also not valid at any local or state government offices or any of the parks.  You can carry in the Statehouse in Austin.
  2. You can carry in schools in Missouri with a license, but of course still be asked to leave the school if found out.
  3. Duplicating the trespass law to pass that sort of bill is fine by me if it makes the property owners happy and in the end helps people with permits.   I think bottom line is that businesses and other property owners do not want to feel that an unwanted behavior is being forced on them and lose the option to ask people to leave.  I think as long as address that concern, you can legalize carry just about everywhere, including schools.  You can legally carry just about everywhere in MS with an enhanced license, but the property owners and schools there can still ask you to leave.  Of course if you conceal you won't be asked to leave a school but will still be legal there.
  4. You can carry in state or local government buildings, if you have a permit AND the building does not have 'no gun' signs.  Now the catch is that most in Memphis have no guns signs, which means you can't legally carry.
  5. These guys are going to mess it up for those of us that want to discreetly carry a gun but be legal about it.
  6. We need to get support of this kind of change from the NRA and TFA and make this a priority next year along with a solid park carry bill.    I don't think you would have much opposition to this kind of a change because the law would state that the property owner would still of course be able to ask people to leave.   Is it ideal to everyone?  I know folks will say they should be able to carry anywhere, and I agree.  But at the same time you have to strike a balance in order to get a solid bill passed that in the end greatly helps folks with permits.   If such a bill were passed, you would be able to legally carry in a lot of places that you can't right now because of a 'no gun' sign.  The property owner would still have the right to ask you to leave if your gun is seen.
  7. We need to make a change like this in Tennessee, so that no gun signs do not carry a fine with them.  We need to work with the NRA and make this change to help people with handgun carry permits.  This law in Oklahoma balances the rights of those carrying guns and the property owners.    As of now, we can be fined and have our handgun carry permit suspended for violating the stupid sign law in TN.  Those who say "Don't give the property owner your business" well good luck when you have to go to any Memphis local government office and carrying legally.     Section 1290.22. C. A property owner, tenant, employer, place of worship or business entity may prohibit any person from carrying a concealed or unconcealed firearm on the property. If the building or property is open to the public, the property owner, tenant, employer, place of worship or business entity shall post signs on or about the property stating such prohibition. D. The carrying of a concealed or unconcealed firearm by a person who has been issued a handgun license on property that has signs prohibiting the carrying of firearms shall not be deemed a criminal act but may subject the person to being denied entrance onto the property or removed from the property. If the person refuses to leave the property and a peace officer is summoned, the person may be issued a citation for an amount not to exceed Two Hundred Fifty Dollars ($250.00).
  8. That is correct that you can carry any handgun anytime while hunting and having a handgun carry permit.  If you do not have a handgun carry permit, you have to carry a handgun that is legal for the season you are hunting in, such as a 22 during small game or centerfire handgun during deer season.  If you do not have a handgun carry permit and you are bow hunting, you can't carry a handgun.  If you have a permit, you can carry while bow hunting.
  9. If you hunt or trap, you will need to have a firearm that is legal for the season you are hunting in.  Right now is small game season.  If you are carrying a handgun, you will want a 22 handgun.  You can carry a centerfire handgun during deer season.  Also be sure that you have a hunting license.  I would assume a trapper will carry some sort of firearm when checking his traps.  You would need a hunting license to trap.   A lot of public fishing areas are state parks, so you would need a handgun carry permit to be legal carrying in the state park.  But if you are fishing at your cousin's pond, it would appear legal for you to carry some sort of gun while you fish on your cousin's property or camp or shoot coke cans.
  10. Best bet would be just to remove the criminal penalty from the sign law.  Most of the states surrounding TN do not have any sort of criminal penalty over a sign just like most of the states surrounding TN let folks keep loaded guns in cars.  TN finally will allow folks without permits to keep guns in cars in July.    Let property owners disallow whatever they want, but at the same time remove the fine for those with permits.  It works in other states.  Why would it not work here?  Should someone be fined for possessing tobacco or alcohol at property owner's location when that person is not doing anything else?  Absolutely not.  At most, someone should just be asked to leave.  Guns should be no different.
  11. Another person messing it up for the rest of us.  No holster and a cheap derringer that can fire when dropped.  These guys are the reason why signs in TN can get us a fine for carrying.
  12. These guys mess up everything for the people trying to carry a handgun for protection.  The media loves these types of stories because it makes us look bad.
  13. http://www.travelandleisure.com/articles/americas-best-cities-for-barbecue-2014   Supposedly, Nashville has better BBQ than Memphis.  What does everyone here think about that?
  14. I think this is a good bill because you can keep a loaded firearm in your vehicle in most of the states surrounding TN without any license or permit.  Alabama is about the only state that requires a license to keep a loaded handgun in a vehicle that borders TN.  As far as I understand, you can still have a loaded long gun in a vehicle there without a license.   I look at my vehicle just like my home or business.  Why should I need a license to keep a loaded gun in my car when I don't need one for my home or business?    The bill does not help me much except I will now be able to have a chambered long gun in my car if I choose to.  It will help a lot of people who do not care to buy a permit but do want to keep a gun in the car for protection.  I do think it is better to keep a gun on you than leaving it in a car, but that is for each person to decide.  If we can fix a few points of TN weapons law for folks with permits, then people can carry their handgun at a school or park legally.
  15. The NRA needs to work really hard at giving the politicians that pulled this a bad rating and prop someone up during an election who wants to fix this.
  16. Car break ins are pretty common in bigger cities.  I would rather have a gun on me where it can't be stolen instead of being left in a car.
  17. Just get rid of the whole silly fine over a sign and forget it.  Most states do not fine people with licenses over signs.  What does it accomplish in TN?  Absolutely nothing but gives someone ammo to hassle someone.
  18. We need to eliminate that whole sign law for people with permits or remove the 500 dollar fine.  I understand that we do not know of anyone with a permit being charged with this sign law, but it is something that is open for abuse.
  19. Remember that when a politcian tells you he is Pro 2nd Amendment but is afraid of people carrying a gun with a permit in a park.
  20. This was about the best thing that came out of the legislature this year.  It looks like you can have any loaded firearm in your vehicle and won't need to have an unchambered long gun.  That is good.
  21. It looks like the stalling for two months killed the park bill.  The NRA needs to concentrate on getting some new folks elected to fix this problem.
  22. I wish they could have done something for the park bill, but I guess that scares too many people.  At least the car carry bill passed for folks without handgun carry permits.
  23. Will the state house have a vote tomorrow also on the park bill?
  24. This is no better than what we had with Bredesen and and the old house speaker, just a different political party.
  25. This bill doesn't do much then if it does not pre empt the parks and local government buildings.
