All you need is a sentence somewhere in the criminal code that is similar to Missouri's and also similar to the TN safe commute legislation: Carrying of a concealed firearm in a location specified in subdivisions 1 to 17 (long list of places) of subsection 1 of this section by any individual who holds a concealed carry permit issued pursuant to sections 571.101 to 571.121 (Missouri's version of handgun carry permits) shall not be a criminal act but may subject the person to denial to the premisis or removal from the premisis. If such person refuses to leave the premisis and a peace officer is summoned, such person may be issued a citation for an amount not to exceed one hundred dollars for the first offense. Those two sentences would fix Tennessee's local park problem, school property problem, and also the no gun sign problem. The businesses and schools would feel like they can still ask people to leave and people smart enough to carry a gun discreetly do not have to worry about going to jail because they are legal. Basically in Missouri, you can legally carry just about anywhere without fear of criminal prosecution but property owners are still able to ask folks to leave. I doubt you'll ever get any sort of bill passed that removes property owners' (including colleges) ability to ask people carrying guns to leave, but you'd have a good chance of passing this sort of bill.

Primitive Season Instead of Muzzleloader Season
300winmag replied to 300winmag's topic in Hunting and Fishing
I do wish the seasons in general were made longer. I think if we are able to kill three does a day in the area I hunt, then that may mean the season can be added in September or January and February. I do understand the archery hunters wanting a separate season because you don't have near the amount of archery hunters as you do MZ and modern gun. I don't think the inline muzzleloaders are that much of a disadvantage VS modern gun. The one disadvantage that I do see with most muzzleloaders is that you cannot shoot as far as most modern centerfire rifles. The smokeless muzzleloaders do have a flatter trajectory than most BP muzzleloaders. I guess when you have less and less people wanting to deer hunt for whatever reason then you have to figure out how to kill more deer to keep the population in balance. -
"Impossible to get legal gun carry permit in D.C."

The states recognize all other states' driver licenses because of state law, not federal law. -
Texas is not the most ideal model for handgun carry. There are some good points but also some not so good points. One bad point is that Texas has signs that can be put up that basically invalidate your license and open you up to carrying without a license, a high level misdemeanor. Now I have never seen these signs anywhere in Texas, but they do exist. Another bad point is that your license again is basically invalid at a sporting event, when voting, and any place that is specifically a 'bar'. The bar one is real bad because my understanding it is a felony, even when you have a license. We at least can't be charged with the whole 'going armed' violation, even with 'no gun' signs. Mississippi is much more ideal if you have an enhanced license. You can carry basically anywhere except inside a courtroom during court and police stations. Sporting events are ok, inside a school is ok, voting is ok. The MS enhanced license just requires the same class that we take to get our handgun carry permit. If you don't want to pay for a license, you can open carry in MS.

Would you support in a change in Tennessee to allow single shot primitive rifles, such as H&R single shot 45-70's, to be used during muzzleloader season? Mississippi and Louisiana already allow single shot 45-70's during muzzleloader season.

Why Are 22 Suppressors So Expensive?
300winmag replied to lshel's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
Suppressors are a specialty item with a limited market. Most people don't want to wait 6 months to buy one. -
I do think that the new car carry law is a big deal for people who do not want to buy a handgun carry permit. Somehow that passed without much media attention. I think taking the approach of slightly modifying current law without a lot of media attention, such as adding a sentence to the safe commute law to remove criminal prosecution for permit folks anywhere, would work just as well as say a stand alone park carry bill.
-
I'd like to see the whole safe commute law modified and just add a sentence that people with handgun carry permits cannot be prosecuted for carrying anywhere outside of the vehicle (parks, no gun signs, schools, etc.) BUT that the property owner can ask someone to leave. I think if you specify that property owners still have the ability to ask people to leave, something like that can pass. Property owners do not want to lose the option to ask people to leave. If you take that ability away from schools and business owners, that kind of bill would not pass. I don't think most people want to slam folks with permits criminal charges, they just want to still be able to disallow guns. Remove the criminal penalties and the folks that are smart and conceal will not have to worry about problems.

What legislative goals can we get behind with the NRA that have a chance of passing in the 2015 TN legislature?

Got an email from Lisa Knight this morning
300winmag replied to Camaro_nut2001's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
It doesn't seem much different than police and fire departments doing DWI awareness with the crashed cars at schools or other community events. I doubt the cost of a handgun carry permit will ever go down in this state. We do need to work with these folks so that we can get more benefit out of the handgun carry permit, such as the whole city park mess that needs to be fixed. -
No one ever seems to put forth a ballot initiative to modify the state constitution regarding the right to bear arms. Sure would be nice if that was fixed.

If you can find a bow or crossbow on craiglist or ebay, you will save some money. Bows and Crossbows do not have the resale value that guns have.

New Remington Muzzleloader
300winmag replied to GoneBallistic's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
It is kind of nice that you can use a single shot 45-70 in Mississippi. I think you can also use a single shot 45-70 in Louisiana too during their primitive season. -
FBI 9MM Justification, FBI Training Division
300winmag replied to SlapChopDonkey's topic in Handguns
9mm is similar to 38 special in a 4 inch barrel. 38 special was popular because it was easy to shoot and could be carried in handguns that are not too heavy. For quite a while the N frame was the only Smith 357 available. Good gun but too heavy to carry all the time. The K frames were lighter and easier to carry. I think 9mm is a great round because it is about the cheapest centerfire pistol round that allows someone to practice more and have a good time at the range. Mild recoil in a full sized gun is nice too just like how 38 special in a 4 inch gun is mild. I like 45's, but the ammo costs too much to shoot very often. It's also important to note that most of the popular handgun trainers, such as Larry Vickers and Suarez, seem to use Glock 17 or Glock 19's in 9mm for their classes. The trainers lay out good reasons for using Glock 9mm's. -
TX Man, Justifiable Defense, but Felony Anyway?

If the guy worked there or owned the bar, he could carry. I am assuming he was not one of the bartenders or owners? -
ATF Approved POST 1986 MG on Form 1!!!!!!
300winmag replied to mcordell's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
FOPA doesn't do squat to protect people in places like New York or New Jersey who are passing through. About the only good thing that FOPA did was remove the requirement that your name be recorded when you buy ammo and also basically open up mail order sales of ammo. -
Stop the visas and stop the flights going in and out of that part of the world until that disease settles down. Also don't let US bound flights in say London accept passengers and baggage who are coming back from that part of the world. If anyone somehow does make it here from that part of the world, put them in medical quaratine until cleared. This is pure common sense but I don't think our government has much common sense. This is an awful disease that simple precautions could have been taken months ago.

You couldn't get a license in NY to even keep your handgun at home? I thought those were pretty much shall issue everywhere in New York and a few places hassle people on getting carry licenses?
-
It is crazy that the feds did not stop flights coming from or to that part of the world. It is also crazy that the feds did not quarantine people at customs for the flights that did come in.

Traveling by car from TN to NJ for an outing

You can take a long gun into New York without any sort of license, but not sure about New Jersey. -

You might see if you can take a long gun to New Jersey to keep in the trunk of your car and hotel room. I doubt it, but it is worth looking into. -
It already is not a criminal offense to carry inside a school in Missouri WITH a license. All the school can do is ask you to leave. I guess this bill keeps the teachers from being fired when it is approved by the school district. Too bad Tennessee can't fix this problem for people with handgun carry permits.
