New York, NJ, Mass, DC are about the only states you would have problems bringing a handgun to as a non resident. NY, DC (non resident license available), and Mass (non resident license available) require a license just to possess a handgun. NY and NJ seem to let non residents bring handguns there for matches. A few other states you may not be able to carry on your person, but you can possess a handgun there as a non resident, such as California. You just have to put your handgun in the trunk of your car or keep it in your hotel room in California. I'd say that is pretty good.

NRA 2015 Annual Convention Nashville

I wouldn't let the civic center people know if the building is not posted. I would lay low then. -

Hopefully it won't be posted by the time the NRA convention is in town. -
NRA 2015 Annual Convention Nashville

NRA should pick another venue if that is the case that people cannot legally carry. Bad choice on NRA's part. -
NRA 2015 Annual Convention Nashville

So there aren't any legal signs up that prohibit carry? I don't see any reason to call and ask. Just wondering if other folks have been to the venue and noticed legal signs. -
Is it true that the venue in Nashville the NRA is using is legally posted against handgun carry permit folks? If so, why in the world would the NRA pick a place that it is illegal to carry at?

The French have been a US ally for a long time. We would have had a harder time gaining independence if the French did not get into the conflict. They practically went broke helping us fight the British during the revolutionary war. They gave us the Statute of Liberty and we helped them in WW1 and WW2.

Constitutional Carry in TN
300winmag replied to shotgunshooter's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I think that Constitutional carry would be ideal but I don't think it will happen with the current leadership in TN. The legislature likes the handgun carry permit system and the money it brings in. I think our best bet this year is to improve the system for people with handgun carry permits, such as removing criminal penalties for people with permits carrying in local parks or places with certain no guns signs. You only have so much political capital and I would use it on removing restrictions for permits VS using efforts for goals that have little chance of passing. I am surprised that the whole vehicle carry bill passed into law but I think it was flying under the radar and did not receive much media attention. I do think that the whole vehicle carry deal helps a lot of people. Why shouldn't someone be able to keep a loaded gun in his vehicle just like he can in his house? Tennessee was very odd in that it made such practice illegal compared to most of the surrounding states. -
I don't think you'll see the handgun carry permit provide an exemption for the background check because the state would lose some money. Look at how the hunting licenses are going up 20% in price next year. I do think there should be a yearly background check done and am surprised the state does not do that. How often are the permits checked by the state? Are background checks only done when renewed?

I think it would be hard to get a high school kid or a kid right out of high school to pay this kind of money to hunt, especially if they are hunting on their own. I'd like to see night hunting of coyote open up and also being able to use centerfire rifles to coyote hunt during the archery and muzzleloading deer seasons. I know the TWRA will have the excuse of people can claim they are coyote hunting and shoot deer during archery season or at night, but if I'm paying 150 plus for a hunting license, I need to see some value in it. TWRA needs to worry more about the people not buying hunting licenses and not those paying big bucks for a license and wanting to night hunt coyotes.
-
166 dollars for a resident hunting license to hunt everything for just a year? That is crazy. These guys better open up night hunting for coyotes and lengthen some deer seasons to make this increase worthwhile. I could kill a whole lot of coyotes if I could hunt them at night on my lease. I can't believe that the TWRA is not making any money from all the ammo sales this past couple of years.

Yeah the funny thing is if she had a special deputy commission (which seemed to be common at one time as a permit), she would have been exempt from that law. We need to find a legislator that is very well spoken and respected and can promote a bill to make the fixes to provide exemptions for handgun carry permits in these situations. As much as I like Constitutional carry, I would much rather use the effort right now to fix the permit system so the people who have a permit can walk around and not have to worry about these sort of problems.

It is my understanding that you can hunt in the city limits of a town as long as it is safe to do so. City ordinances can't keep you from hunting. There are many areas that are in incorporated towns that are very rural areas with enough room to hunt.

This is why we need a well spoken legislator with facts, not emotion, to promote a bill or bills to fix some of these problems. Facts that could be pointed out are that it is legal in many states with a license to carry on K-12 schools and many more where it is legal to carry on college property. Also point out that it is already for other people ,such as school sport team shooters and armed guards, to have guns inside schools. What would it hurt for people with handgun carry permits to have the same exemption that armed guards have while working? Both go through training and background checks. If you are scared of handgun carry permit folks carrying in schools then you better exclude armed guards too.

We need to either fix this for the regular handgun carry permit or have an enhanced permit like Mississippi has so that we do not have to worry about this problem. This needs to be on the 2015 agenda for the legislature.
-
A bad law that needs to be fixed. Someone with a permit should not have to worry about this.

You might want to take some sort of ibuprofen to cut down on the inflammation in your ear until it calms down. If you have the money, a suppressor would not be a bad idea either. I have seriously considered a suppressor to protect hearing. It is a shame suppressors cannot be bought over the counter same day because they do reduce hearing damage.

You can kill coyotes on private land during modern gun deer season with a centerfire rifle. I don't think you can centerfire rifle coyote hunt during archery or muzzleloader deer season. You would have to use a shotgun (loaded with T shot), rimfire, if you do not use the tackle legal for the archery or muzzleloading deer season. You might want to call TWRA to be sure. I would not want to use a 22 LR on coyote. That 17 WSM is a good looking round and what I would consider if i didn't want to use a bow or shotgun during deer archery season.

What part of town did that happen? If it was in say Germantown or Collierville, I would be surprised because that kind of crime is rare in those two towns. If it happened close to downtown at 11 PM, unfortunately that does happen in that area. The problems that the Memphis area has are not unique to just this area. I've seen the same thing in other big cities in this part of the country. New Orleans, Atlanta, Dallas have their share of crime too.

We need a well spoken and respected legislator who has all the facts and can relay those facts to get this sort of bill passed. Model after other states that have the trespass approach VS all the misdemeanors and felonies that someone with a permit can be charged with. I would pursue this before any other legislation because if written correctly, it would fix your park carry, school carry, and posted signs. Think, you could go to a Memphis government building (most have compliant no gun signs) and be legal, go to the parks, and walk across an urban college campus and be legal. Yes, it would legalize open or concealed carry, but if you give property owners (including governments, colleges) the option to still ask people to leave, you won't see open carry in these types of locations. Yes in an ideal world you should be able to open carry at such places, but ideal VS what can pass are two different things. Mississippi has an enhaced handgun carry permit available to residents and technically you could open carry at a school, but you'll never see it happen because the minute you do it, the school can still ask that person to leave. The wise people would know they are legal and conceal in those types of places to avoid being asked to leave. No one will know, the person with the enhanced permit is legal, and the school can still ask permit people to leave if they see it. I see it as win for both propert rights and gun rights. It is much better than getting caught with your gun outside your car at a Tennessee school, being asked to leave, and on top of it getting criminal charges.

I think if we concentrated on such a bill with the NRA, something like this would have a chance of passing. Yes, in an ideal world you could carry without a permit, open carry, but you have to focus your limited political capital on what can pass and I think this has a much better chance of passing. Have a low key bill that is not a lightning rod like the open carry bills and it won't attract much media attention.
