  1. Yeah open carry and mind your own business and some busy body calls the cops when the busy body sees the school group in the restaurant.    I don't think I would want to deal with that.
  2. The school group situation is a big reason why I would not open carry a handgun in public in this state.  If you are carry anywhere in public and a school field trip group arrives, then you are breaking the law and subject to a felony charge.  It is absolute garbage probably more so than the whole park mess that we have to deal with.
  3. Can the bill sponsor not amend the bill to fix the problem?  Or is this his way out to look pro gun but not get a meaningful bill through?
  4. NRA should have never scheduled the convention in Nashville if the politicians wouldn't fix some of the carry problems.  NRA is spending a lot of money on facilities and has known for several years that we have had these carry problems.   I'd be willing to bet if you put the potential for not having the convention in Nashville and the NRA spending the money elsewhere, the politicians would have fixed those problems because that is big money that Nashville and the state could have lost out on if the NRA went to say Dallas.
  5. NRA needs to put more pressure on these folks.  I have not seen very many gun rights improved with this R super majority in the legislature the past few years.  If they want the NRA support, they should pass bills that the NRA supports.   I mean the NRA couldn't even put enough pressure these guys to fix the park problem?  That is an easy one compared to some of the other bills.  Then you have the whole goofy school event deal where a school group can be anywhere and you carrying and then charged with a felony.  I am a little surprised that the NRA could not have a lobbyist at the Senate hearing yesterday and the House hearing today while the governor's department directors were there to testify against bills.   The NRA should have been able to get a few things by having the convention in Nashville.  If the state politicians wouldn't agree to make those fixes, the NRA shouldn't have paid the money to Nashville to use their facilities.
  6. The guy probably has a license from the country he is working in.
  7. Where was the NRA lobbyist yesterday during the Senate committee meeting?  It seemed like there were a couple of governor's staff directors yesterday speaking against bills but no NRA lobbyist who could give well spoken explanations for the bills.
  8. Even if there were recalls in TN, I don't think you would be able to have enough votes to recall Haslam.  He is highly popular just like Bredesen was.  I think his approval rating is over 70%.
  9. That is just a stalling tactic that someone is pulling.  There is no financial burden with the bill but a state agency made one up so that nothing comes to a floor vote.  Some of the legislators need to call that out as being dishonest and just trying to kill a bill.
  10. I don't think the other guy, McWherter, would have been any better as far as gun rights.  I'd say in the first election it was the flip of a coin.  The second election another flip of a coin gun rights wise between Haslam and the Democrat.   Bredesen was very lukewarm towards gun rights too.
  11. http://www.tennessean.com/story/insession/2015/03/10/haslam-opposes-gun-bills/24717375/     Interesting article that is not surprising.
  12. A lot of people without permits are already carrying in Memphis parks.  What difference does it make that people who are legal are carrying?  I've yet to understand that logic.
  13. We just need to get the bill sponsors to modify the bill so that the whole sign issue is changed from a criminal weapons charge to a civil trespass issue.  Most states treat signs as a trespass issue and not a weapons charge.  It is a pain in TN to even get a license but you can go across into Alabama and buy a pistol license from the county sheriff with no training and carry just about anywhere, including schools, legally.  Signs do not mean anything there either, except you can be asked to leave.
  14. You can buy the Monarch ammo that is made by Prvi Partizan at Academy for 14 dollars.  It seems to be pretty good ammo.  I have no idea if the bullets are any good on deer.  You can spend 2 dollars more a box and buy Remington Core lokt or Winchester power point at Academy.
  15. Yep it looks like a waste of time because it doesn't get rid of the posting law or eliminate criminal penalty.  Not much help to people with handgun carry permits.
  16. It looks like there is a no guns sign bill that will be heard March 11th.   Does anyone know if the sponsor would be willing to add some sort of language to the bill to remove the criminal penalty for the no gun signs?  I figure if someone is going to go to the trouble of writing a bill, it might as well get rid of the weapons charge over the no guns signs.   http://wapp.capitol.tn.gov/apps/BillInfo/default.aspx?BillNumber=HB0682&GA=109
  17. I wouldn't be surprised if some or all of the gun bills get pushed another week.  It could be a stalling game to keep anything from receiving a recorded vote.
  18. You have some folks that want to appear pro gun to the NRA but aren't really pro gun.  It is easier on them to not have a vote on an NRA sponsored bill than to actually vote against an NRA sponsored bill.
  19. The NRA sponsored HB 995 Park carry bill now has a fiscal note.  Take a look at for yourself but it looks like a stall tactic to kill the bill again this year.  There is no requirement in the bill to replace any signs in parks but TDEC is claiming that the bill requires park sign changes.  Folks may want to get further information about this fiscal note and verify if this is just another stall tactic.   http://www.capitol.tn.gov/Bills/109/Fiscal/HB0995.pdf     The bill is in this link.  If you look, there is no requirement in the bill to change park signs.   http://www.capitol.tn.gov/Bills/109/Bill/HB0995.pdf     If you look at the HB 274 park bill, there is no fiscal affect.  If that is the case, NRA needs to get behind this bill instead.   http://wapp.capitol.tn.gov/apps/BillInfo/default.aspx?BillNumber=HB0274&GA=109
  20. Wal Mart unfortunately does not have much ammo in the Memphis area.  Academy has a much better selection than Wal Mart and is cheaper than Bass Pro.  Wal Mart just has shotgun shells in stock.  I about gave up a long time ago on buying ammo at Wal Mart.  The Monarch ammo at Academy is a couple bucks cheaper than Remington or Winchester.
  21. Anyone use Monarch ammo to deer hunt with?  It is sold by Academy Sports and made by Prvi Partizan in Serbia.  The ammo is priced right, is brass cased, and soft point.  It is a couple of bucks a box cheaper than Winchester Core Lokts and Winchester Power Point at Academy.
  22. Hopefully the other park bill will work out that the NRA is getting behind.  Is there any major difference between the NRA park bill and the other park bill?
  23. Did the NRA not get behind the park carry bill HB 274?  Also did the NRA not get behind the bill that gives handgun carry permits the same exemptions as off duty LEO?
  24. Is the NRA helping to bring awareness to these bills or working with any legislators?
  25. Has any progress been made in the legislature so far on any decent gun bills, such as park carry for people with handgun carry permits?  It looks like one park carry bill was not heard yesterday, HB0274.
