  1. I would assume you are legal carrying in the zoo and aquarium because both of those are in a public park but that is just the way I read it without a legal background.
  2. Does the bill include the buildings inside park property?  What about places like the Pink Palace in Memphis, Nashville Zoo, or aquarium in Chattanooga that are all inside park areas?  I'm assuming all those places will be legal with this bill but the bill has a lot of wording that is not exactly clear.
  3. It looks like a decent bill that will benefit a lot of people.  The school hang up deal is silly and so was the hang up on the statehouse carry, but the revised bill will help folks protect themselves.  I would rather this bill pass than for it to be killed over the statehouse carry issue.
  4. Yeah that fiscal impact is a lie.  There are a lot of states that you can carry in the state capital buildings or any state government building without it costing anyone anything.  These guys come up with an excuse for people with permits not carrying in XYZ location.  Then they come up with another silly reason on problems if we go to Constitutional carry and not make people buy permits.  You can't claim that people need permits but then not trust the people you give permits to.  Wasn't that the whole point of the permit was to check people wanting to be legal when carrying?
  5. It looks like that whole toy gun deal got dropped.  That is good.  I would hate for that to be used by some of the bed wetters to hassle little kids playing with toy guns because they were playing close to a school.  There should not have been any sort of law just to target that guy in Nashville.  There are enough laws already that can be used to deal with people that cause problems.
  6. Let's try to keep this bill moving if it is a solid bill.
  7. This is one of several of these types of attacks in the past six months in Memphis city limits.  That attack at Poplar and Cleveland is not the best part of town either.  One of the earlier attacks was right at Methodist University Hospital which isn't too far from Poplar and Cleveland.
  8. That's not a private school.  It's probably some sort of charter school.
  9. Most politicians just care about being re elected and having enough money in campaign contributions to get elected.  Somehow someone/organization out there has more influence with these legislators than the various gun rights organizations.  The gun organizations have to step up and figure out how those other groups have more influence and beat them at their game.  If you don't, then we'll have what has happened to Washington and Colorado on top of the silly restrictions on our handgun carry permits.  The Seattle elite crowd outspent the NRA crowd in Washington.  Don't think that it can't happen in Tennessee, especially with all the transplants in the Nashville area.
  10. So is this headed to the conference committee to actually be resolved and voted on?  I saw that the Senate would not concur with the House bill.
  11. Yeah they need to vote to concur with the House version if they want it to go through before the session ends.  The bad part is that includes that whole toy gun problem that the House added to the park bill.   I think these guys wait until the end on purpose in order to stall and then if it fails say it wasn't their fault.
  12. You might want to mention that in most states it is legal to carry in a park for people with licenses.  Tennessee is one of the few in this part of the country where it is illegal in some parks.  Crazy that you have to take a class to get a permit here, but can go to some of the neighboring states and basically buy a permit and can carry in more places legally than TN.  The House rejecting the Senate amendment on carry at the statehouse in addition to parks in proof enough to me that you don't have a very gun friendly legislature here.  Remember, this was not a vote on allowing anyone to carry in parks and the statehouse, this was a vote on the few people in this state who have paid for their permit to carry.
  13. The NRA overall has done a lot of good.  I think we would have a lot harsher gun laws at the federal level without the lobbying the NRA does.
  14. We do not have to do background checks on private sales in Tennessee.  TBI does our background checks on FFL sales with TICS.
  15. NRA should know how this game works in TN by now after not passing this bill the past several years.  The NRA needs to put pressure on these committee members that have stalled this stuff year after year.  I guarantee you a good chunk of these committee members do not want a bad NRA rating.  We also need an effective lobbyist that can communicate ideas to the capitol and be able to back them up with hard evidence from other states, such as local park carry is legal in about every surrounding state with a license.   This year not much has been passed.  The parking lot bill that became law is a joke (doesn't help people in at will jobs) and the NFA bill is just a token gesture that did not change much.  We got absolutely nothing as far as improvement in the handgun carry permit restrictions.
  16. The NRA needs to inform these guys that our handgun carry permit exempts us from the federal Gun free school zones act both next to school property and ON school property.  The NRA then can inform the politicians that there are several states where it is legal for people with permits to carry inside schools in fact because of the exemption provided permit holders in those states.  There seems to be a big hang up with people carrying in parks next to schools and the NRA is not clearing up that problem.  They should have had the votes coordinated quite a while ago in order to get this bill passed before the NRA convention.  Obviously, that is not happening.
  17. Was there a confrontation before the video started?  If there was some sort of fighting going on, then that may have led to what was on the video.  Did the guy run without fighting the LEO?  Did the guy commit a felony before the incident?  Or did the guy commit a violent felony before the incident?    We'll have to see the whole story.
  18. The House should have passed the amended bill with the capitol carry.  That is their own fault for not passing it.  The Democrat that added the capital carry amendment was true that a lot of the politicians are hypocrites who do not want people with permits carrying around them but want the NRA vote.   I also would not be surprised if some of those politicians already carry in the statehouse and just walk around any sort of metal detectors.
  19. Not a whole lot has been accomplished with this R super majority and the NRA in the last several years.  Look at what has happened in Kansas.  Those guys have gone from extremely good licensing reforms (from my understanding they can carry anywhere without criminal penalties when carrying on a license) now to Constitutional carry.  We have the same type of licensing system as Kansas but our license is not near as good as theirs as far as where we can carry.   This little clause right here is what we need in all the off limits spots we have now in TN that Kansas has:   (e) (1) It shall be a violation of this section to carry a concealed handgun in violation of any restriction or prohibition allowed by subsection (a) or (b) if the building is posted in accordance with rules and regulations adopted by the attorney general pursuant to subsection (h). Any person who violates this section shall not be subject to a criminal penalty but may be subject to denial to such premises or removal from such premises.   That means if you are carrying at George Washing Elementary, you can be asked to leave if found to be carrying.  Or say the posted public buildings in Nashville.  Again just asked to leave.
  20. NRA needs to call out this R super majority at the NRA convention if a decent park bill does not become law.  They have had every opportunity to pass a decent bill, even the amended park bill that included the capitol.
  21. Anyone know if the park carry bill is being voted on today in the House or is that bill now dead?
  22. Yeah the whole school property issue is why I would not open carry in this state.  Too bad the House rejected the bill that would have fixed that issue and not allowed people to be charged with a felony because they are at the same place a school group walks in on.   Do people even realize if you look at that law strictly, then people who home school and have firearms could be breaking the law?  There is no exemption in that law for people on their own property it is so poorly worded.
  23. "House leaders said they plan to reject a Senate amendment to allow guns at the Capitol complex."  From the WATE article.   That right there is proof the NRA needs to be on these guys for not supporting the 2nd amendment.  We paid for the statehouse.  Why should we not be able to carry there if on top of paying for the statehouse we paid for their permit?  This is just more of the we'll give you a permit but don't want you to carry garbage that many politicians pull.   Nashville Post Article:   Casada: Again, it’s pretty clear. Owned, operated or maintained. The feds do have 1,000 feet which would supersede our laws, so in addition to the feds you've got our Tennessee law, which is again is 37-17-1309, it’s real clear.   Reporter: But there seems to be some thought, that the 1,000 buffer wouldn’t apply to permit holders. Casada: That is, I have heard that, and that may be true. But I can only speak intelligently, and that's questionable, on Tennessee code. And I go back to what's important to our county, which is if a park is maintained, owned or operated by a school, no permit holders can bring their guns.     More garbage that the NRA needs to fix and inform that our permit exempts us from federal gun free school zones IF TN would do the same for us.
  24. That's right.  If they are so worried about people with guns, then they need to cut security contracts with police departments and also armored car companies.  I'd be willing to bet some of those schools use an armored car company if they have bank deposits.  Make these bed wetters take the deposits themselves.
  25. That article regarding the schools is garbage.  So they are more worried about us than the gang member who is already carrying everywhere?  Our handgun carry permit exempts us from the federal gun free school zones if they don't already know that.   Someone needs to point that out.  Also remind them that there are already people carrying inside school buildings, both legally and illegally.  So what is the worry about the people with permits?    "That single clause leaves Williamson County, and school systems across the state, in an immediate and severe situation. Schools that use county or city parks for practice and games would be forced to find other venues."   That is a total lie.  There is nothing that forces those school districts to stop using those facilities.  That is their choice and people should call them out on that.
