There are a lot of places that are legal to carry at that the property owner can still ask you to leave. My guess is that it is possibly legal to carry at Bridgestone Arena, but whoever controls the property can ask you to leave if they catch you with a weapon. If you have a handgun carry permit, you are just told to leave. No permit, you probably receive some sort of citation or arrest. Next legislative session we need to get the goofy no gun sign offense changed so that someone with a permit definitely does not get a weapons charge over carrying past a no gun sign.

"except when on his land or in his own abode, legal dwelling, or fixed place of business, or on the land or in the legal dwelling of another person as an invitee with that person's permission, " Most places treat a hotel room as a temporary dwelling/home. I would say as long as you unload the gun in your car and then transport the gun unloaded from your car to your hotel, and load it again in the hotel room, you would be following the law in that state. It was my understanding that you can bring a handgun to any city in Illinois now, including Chicago, but some long guns may not be pre empted.

From what I understand, you can have a loaded pistol in your car in Illinois if you are from out of state and have a handgun carry permit. You just can't carry it loaded in public outside your vehicle. You can have it loaded in your hotel room. That has been the law there for I believe around a year. Chicago is covered by this new law. That is not ideal but it is better than New York where you pretty much can't bring a handgun as a non resident unless you are going there for an NRA sanctioned match. I wouldn't hesitate bringing a handgun to Illinois as far as having it loaded in the car and hotel room.

39-17-1308. Defenses to unlawful possession or carrying of a weapon. (a) It is a defense to the application of § 39-17-1307 if the possession or carrying was: (4) Incident to lawful hunting, trapping, fishing, camping, sport shooting or other lawful activity; Other lawful activity is a pretty broad term and can cover a lot of activities. Of course the guys are legal taking a loaded long gun from home in their vehicle because of the vehicle exemption too.

Going to Aztar/Tropicana Casino in Evansville Indiana.

Take a look at handgunlaw.us . It looks like criminal code just prohibits carry at K-12 schools. I'd carry the gun on me at the casino or keep it in my hotel room. A casino is a good place to carry with all the cash changing hands and criminals looking for opportunities. I know there have been some robberies at the casinos in Tunica. "No gun" signs do not have any legal weight in Indiana. -
Yeah I would like to see the no guns signs criminal offense gone too. I think that would be the easiest thing to change and would legalize a lot of places for people with permits just like this new park law.

Carrying into someone's home?
300winmag replied to Grayfox54's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
The problem with telling every homeowner that you are carrying is that some people would be taking a gun on and off all the time. If you are a realtor showing houses, you'd be leaving a gun in the car a lot where it doesn't do you any good. I understand where folks are coming from, but in a lot of cases it is in my opinion better to keep quiet and keep concealed than for others to know that you carry, especially people who carry when they work. A gun is much more secure when concealed on someone's person than left in a car where it can be stolen. -
What kind of accuracy are you getting with that rifle with decent ammo? Savage makes great rifles.

Carrying into someone's home?
300winmag replied to Grayfox54's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I personally would not want to leave a handgun in my car and would carry it on me where it can't be stolen. If you have the right sized gun with the right holster, no one should know that you are carrying. -
Carrying into someone's home?
300winmag replied to Grayfox54's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
If you aren't drinking, then I'd definitely carry. You are following the law and have your handgun carry permit when you carry at their house. No one will know except you unless you tell people. The handgun will be securely concealed on you and not in a bag where someone can get it. I believe that unless someone is a real close friend or close family, it is not worth others knowing if you carry or when you carry. Think about it this way, would you ask every property/business/church that you visit for permission to carry and let the property owner know that you are carrying? I sure don't. -
Carrying into someone's home?

If you have your handgun concealed and you have a handgun carry permit, I would just carry. It's not like you are laying your handgun somewhere unattended when the handgun is concealed on your person. No one should know except you. I wouldn't tell others about it and I wouldn't ask for permission. -
Lawful rifle carry in a pickup - TN & AL

If you had the long gun in a rack in the open, it should be legal when it is loaded because it wouldn't be concealed. -
Lawful rifle carry in a pickup - TN & AL

I am pretty sure you can have a loaded long gun in your vehicle in Alabama. I don't know if it can be concealed or if it needs to be in the open when it is loaded. -
Cooper makes a real nice 22 LR and I am going to guess it is very accurate. I have no idea what the cost would run for a Cooper 22 LR bolt action or the accuracy compared to Anschutz or Sako. You might want to look at Anschutz or Sako 22LR if you do not mind spending around a grand for a good 22. I think a CZ 455 would make a good mid priced 22 LR. Savage is a great 200-300 22LR rifle. You don't have to do any trigger work on a Savage because the accutrigger is great in my opinion for a factory trigger.

Alcohol + Handgun: Hypothetical Question
300winmag replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Can you still be charged with DWI in Tennessee without a breathalyzer or other BAC test if an officer believes you are intoxicated? I'm assuming an officer could charge you with DWI just based on other types of evidence, such as alcohol smell, slurred speech, etc. There are some folks out there who would be intoxicated even though they are under whatever the BAC limit is. -
Memphis Park Called A "Public Recreation Area"

The sign at the Memphis parks doesn't apply to you anymore if you have a handgun carry permit. -
This is one of the saddest events that I have seen in a while. The folks at the church were trying to welcome the boy and witness to him when he showed up to their Bible study. He just turned around and killed people trying to be kind to him. He has so much of the devil inside of him to commit such a crime. The people at the church have a ton of integrity for still trying to show the light to this boy caught in darkness after he hurt that church. I personally think this guy should be given his trial, a year of appeals, and then executed. It is obvious that he is guilty because he proudly admitted to the crime. The trial is just a paperwork formality. Sadly, he will probably plea guilty in exchange for life in prison and then be able to make friends in prison and spread his garbage. Even if a jury gave him the death penalty, the guy would sit on death row for twenty years of appeals paid for by the state because the politicians do not have enough intelligence to cut appeals for obviously guilty people.

You can only be asked to leave in Missouri. If you don't leave, then you can be fined. It is treated more as a trespassing issue. You can carry in schools in Missouri and again all that happens is you are asked to leave. Of course that is if you are carrying concealed with a license. I have no idea how that relates to open carry in Missouri without a license. I know it is legal to open carry there w/o a license but don't know the restrictions.

Most people have to be 21 to carry in Texas. Very few young college students can get a CHL down there and I'm sure the cost kind of deters some that are 21. You can have a loaded pistol in your car there without a CHL, even on college property as long as you are 18. The ability to keep a loaded pistol in the car seems to satisfy most people. Only about 3% of the population has a CHL if you look at TX DPS stats. I would be surprised if a college campus in TX had very many people legally carrying on their persons. No one would know about the few that do because they have to conceal. The few that would carry on campus would probably be non traditional students going back to school in the evenings while they work in the daytime.

You can't openly carry a loaded rifle in this state, except under certain circumstances. You could put your loaded rifle in a gun rack in your truck and be in compliance. I don't believe people carrying rifles on foot in the Dallas area helped the 2nd amendment cause a couple of years ago. You only get so many chances as far as trying to improve carry laws because the legislature does not want to spend a lot of time on gun issues. I'd rather use my political capital on a few solid bills related to cutting restrictions on handgun carry permits than being able to carry a rifle around in public. The legislature here seems to like the handgun carry permit system and the money it brings in. I carry when I work but can't openly carry (don't want others knowing), so cutting the restrictions helps me a lot. I kind of assume that the attention seekers openly carrying rifles in public places rarely, if ever, carry a handgun for protection. They would rather be able to strap on the rifle twice a year and take pictures at Wal Mart than to be able to legally conceal say in a school with a permit.
-
Having a long gun behind the seat of your truck or on your four wheeler is different than strapping it on and walking in the airport terminal to attract attention. There is a time and place for everything and just because it is legal, does not mean it is wise to do.
-
This is bad for gun rights when someone shows off like that. I bet he rarely carries, except for going to the local Wal Mart at 6AM to buy ammo to resell.

I carry a snubnose revolver because.....
300winmag replied to FortKnox's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I've had a revolver cylinder lock up on me once a long time ago. I was able to eventually open the cylinder. From what I remember, I was shooting factory ammo. Maybe the extractor star was not kept clean and pushed the cartridge a little too high. I've also had a reloaded cartridge with a high primer keep a cylinder from turning. A revolver is a good gun for someone who does not understand how to take a pistol apart to clean. It is easier to unload and load. I've taken revolvers that have been sitting for quite some time and they fired fine. Most just needed a little oil to make the cylinder move smoother. As long as the weapon is kept wiped down and dry and the ammo is not corroded, generally the revolver will fire. Now if you drop a revolver on a hard surface or get a lot of dirt in it, you may have to take it to a gunsmith. I've dropped a semi auto pistol on ice and it just needed to be wiped down. The gun functioned fine when I shot it later on. -
Texans Can Open Carry Now .. with permit
300winmag replied to Oh Shoot's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
From what I know, the class is a separate fee that you pay to the instructor. You pay the 140 for the license and then say 100 bucks for a class. A lot of the ranges offer classes just like here. You have to do live fire down there as a part of the class. I think it was something like a ten hour class. -
Texans Can Open Carry Now .. with permit
300winmag replied to Oh Shoot's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Texas is not ideal when it comes to carrying. The license there is expensive and you have to requal on a range when you renew your CHL. Basically, it is illegal to carry a weapon in Texas, openly or concealed. Weapons are things like handguns, clubs, brass knucks. Weapon does not include long guns. You can carry long guns however you like there because they are not covered under the unlawful carrying law. It can be open, concealed, loaded, in your vehicle. It is very uncommon to see anyone carrying a long gun there in public. You may see one in the back window of a truck but not actually carried. So basically it is illegal to carry a weapon there with a bunch of exceptions such as: 1. Concealed handgun license carrying a concealed handgun 2. Traveling (generally thought to be someone crossing county lines). 3. Going to and from hunting, fishing, sport shooting with a handgun. Yes you could carry it openly or concealed and have it loaded when going to your hunting or range spot from your house. 4. Your own property such as your house or business. Strictly speaking, you could not just carry around an unloaded handgun. Until about ten years ago, you could not even have an unloaded handgun in your car. You have to fall under the exceptions, so if you fall under the exception, you might as well have it loaded. For about the past ten years you can also have a handgun (loaded or unloaded) that is concealed in your car without falling under the other exceptions. It's my understanding that weapon carrying, open or concealed, has been illegal down there since the late 1800's, with certain exceptions such as traveling or going to the range. I'm sure at one time that the law was ignored by a lot of people and not really enforced by the police. You better fall under one of those exceptions, like having a handgun in your car, because I'm pretty sure the law is enforced now and I'm thinking it is a Class A Misdemeanor if convicted of unlawful weapon carry.
