  1. In some states, DA's can be armed while they work just like a police officer.  They are taken to the range for LEO firearms qualification however often they are required to qualify.  Are they not armed by their jobs in Tennessee?  I guess they are obviously not armed in New York while working.
  2. Have you looked at the Buck Paklite?  It is stainless steel and you can put the whole thing in the sink or a bucket with bleach to clean.  You can pick one up for about twenty dollars and it is made in the USA.  Buck also makes a couple knives with blades similar to the Paklite but the knives have rubber handles.  The Omni is a nice knife that should be pretty easy to clean since it has a rubber handle.
  3. If the fair is in a park, it doesn't look like you would be breaking the law.  Maybe you could be trespassed?
  4. From my understanding it is legal to carry just about anywhere in Georgia now except on school property without permission from the school.  Georgia has recently has restaurant and park carry reforms like Tennessee.  From what I have read, publicly owned venues cannot keep people with carry licenses from carrying.   How have various GA state 2nd amend organizations approached publicly owned places, such as a zoo, fair grounds, ball parks, etc that try to deny entry of people with carry licenses?   Also are places like baseball parks and state fairs still able to deny entry with these law changes?
  5. Now people are seeing that some of these so called pro gun Republicans really aren't that pro gun when they are worried about people WITH PERMITS carrying at certain locations.  They want to hassle the honest folks who are just trying to protect themselves when walking across a dark parking lot after going to the fair.  Are they really so stupid to think that people with permits are going to cause problems at the fair?    Think about how these lukewarm Republicans would flip out over people WITHOUT permits carrying in public if we had Constitutional carry.  You'd see Constitutional carry have so many restrictions on it that it would be about like having a DC or Illinois carry permit.   I think now we are seeing proof that we are lucky to get reforms done within the permit system.  Even that has been tough with so many of the lukewarm Republicans that only give gun rights support when it is convenient for a vote.
  6. The best thing to do would be to eliminate the silly no guns sign law or remove the fine of it for handgun carry permits and armed guards.  Also just give a clean exception to the park guns law for handgun carry permits without the two pages of nonsense just like armed guards have.  I'd add a clean exception for handgun carry permits on school property too just like armed guards have while working.
  7. Yeah it is probably best to conceal any kind of handgun or knife, even though it is legal to carry at that event.  You can pretty much bet that you won't be asked to leave if a handgun or knife isn't seen by anyone.
  8. I don't think that Nashville city attorney's legal reasoning is up to par from a plain reading of the law and after reading the AG's opinion.  In my opinion, he is twisting some words to tell his bosses what they want to hear.  Also, I don't think he is the city prosecutor.   Like I said, if you conceal your handgun you shouldn't have any problems if you attend a venue at that location.
  9. I think you'd be denied entry or asked to leave at that amphitheater but I doubt you'd be arrested on a weapons charge.  The amphitheater is inside the boundary of a park from what I understand, so it would be legal to carry in.  It is also a recreational type property on top of being inside a park.   Of course if you conceal your handgun, you probably would not be denied entry or asked to leave because no one would know about it.  It will be kind of a hassle if you want to open carry and insist that the event organizers allow you in and then bring a lawsuit over the deal for the organizers denying entry.
  10. You would probably need to have a rifle that is a legal hunting device for whatever is in season, especially if you are on WMA land.  The only time you can have a centerfire rifle on WMA land is during modern gun deer season.  You can have a rimfire rifle or shotgun during small game seasons.  You would also need a hunting license and any of the add ons for the WMA permit and the modern gun deer permit.
  11. Handguns that are carried at these events are generally concealed the whole time.  The risk is usually going back and forth across a parking lot close to the event.  If it is safe enough for off duty LEO to carry, then it is safe enough for people with handgun carry permits.  Both groups of people usually keep their handguns holstered and concealed.  No one even knows for the most part.   The NRA, other gun organizations, and people need to keep the pressure on our legislators that this type of law is a good law that allows honest people to protect themselves walking to and from their cars at night.  We also need to let them know that in the vast majority of states where this is legal, there are no problems.
  12. Is the power plant owned by the utility company or is it owned by the federal government?  That would probably make a difference.
  13. Don't let the anti gun crowd fool you.  Many of the wealthy ones either carry guns or hire people who carry guns to protect them.  Sen. Dianne Feinstein used to have one of the few CCW's in San Francisco and later got deputized as a US Marshal so that she could carry for protection anywhere in DC and the rest of the US.  Imagine that, Dianne Feinstein can carry at Univ of Tennessee or Univ of Memphis but you can't carry in those places with your TN handgun carry permit.   I've always thought that if people like Bloomberg were serious about not wanting guns in society, then they should lead by example and be the first ones to give up their armed security details and their own carry guns.  If those folks' armed security details can carry in a place, such as a park, then I should be able to carry in a park.  What is supposedly good for them should be good for me.
  14. Think about this.  These people are blaming legal handgun carry permit people for their problems in parks.  They are making a bigger deal out of handgun carry permits carrying than gang bangers carrying.  They think gang bangers carrying is just something that happens but throw a fit when an honest man is carrying to protect himself from the criminals.  I've never seen this much effort put into deterring criminals from carrying.
  15. I think one important question to ask is does LP Field let off duty LEO's that are carrying walk past the metal detectors at NFL games or are off duty LEO's that are carrying turned away?  We know it is legal for them to carry at LP Field at the games but are the Titans turning them away when they are found carrying?  If the NFL, NHL, and NBA events in Tennessee are making off duty LEO's leave, then we may have a difficult time getting those events to not turn away people with handgun carry permits.
  16. The park carry law was written poorly because a lot of these politicians truly do not want us carrying anywhere.  By writing the law poorly, it allows an option to hassle someone they do not want carrying.  Why else do you think we have a law that says it is illegal to have a weapon 'with intent to go armed'.  In most states, it is made clear that CONCEALING is illegal.  It is an unclear law that has probably been used for a long time to hassle select people.   The park law and the school law both could have been written with a clear one line exception for people with handgun carry permits, just like the school shooting teams and licensed armed guards have. Instead, the legislators wrote paragraphs of unclear garbage because they really don't want us carrying.  Do I think the average handgun carry permit person will be hassled? No I don't.  But I do think if you are at some rec property and your weapon is seen you may be asked to leave.  If you don't leave and argue, that is when the unclear law is used to hassle you.
  17. I would conceal but know that I am legal when I am carrying at those places.  By concealing, your carrying would probably never be an issue.  At worst, you'd probably be asked to leave.  No point in arguing with someone on the street that you are supposed to be allowed entry into a location when armed unless you have an attorney that can help you.  I think most police are understanding of people with handgun carry permits but if you just blatantly start arguing and do not leave, then that is when things become difficult without legal counsel.  I think your attitude will determine a lot of how the police deal with you if someone notices your gun at one of these recreational properties.  I hope we don't have a lot of attention seekers with cameras and microphones purposefully going to the locations to start stuff with the police.  Remember, the media is not on our side with this issue unlike other social issues.
  18. The NRA needs to be on top of this so some of these folks don't mess up a good thing next legislative session as a way of 'compromise'.  The few people that legally carry guns on their persons are not going to hurt anything at Memphis in May.   I saw another article in the Memphis newspaper today.  Supposedly some law enforcement group is going to meet because they don't like that we can carry either in the parks.
  19. If Beale Street is still running metal detectors at night and turning people away with handgun carry permits, that would be interesting if a person turned away went to court.  Beale Street is owned by the city of Memphis and has been leased to a company from what I understand.  I don't see how Beale Street would not fall under the state pre emption law and this new park law because Handy Park is within the confines of the Beale Street entertainment area.
  20. I'm guessing that new park area in Nashville is not running metal detectors.  I think for now I'd carry concealed in that area until people forget about carry being legal.
  21. I don't think there are problems in states where 18 year olds can get a pistol license.  Of course now in TN an 18 year old can keep any firearm loaded in his vehicle in addition to his home or out in the woods.  I do think if the handgun carry permit age was lowered to 18 that we would lose reciprocity with some states just like if we dropped the training requirement.   I think the no guns signs losing legal weight of criminal penalties is a realistic goal that we can achieve with the permit system in the near future with the right game plan.
  22. Have you thought about getting some quality electronic hearing protection to wear for hunting?  That may serve you better than threading your hunting rifle barrels and you can also use the electronic hearing protection when hunting say ducks or turkeys with a shotgun.  Some of the good in the ear electronic ear plugs probably are in the same price range as a suppressor and the tax stamp.
  23. I think it is funny reading how these city leaders are disturbed by people with handgun carry permits but have yet to care very much about gang members walking around these park areas with pistols and criminal records.  I also think it is funny that the Nashville city attorney is trying to change the definition of 'recreational property' and claim that people sitting around are not on recreational property because they are not participating in an activity/sport.    There was a lady robbed and kidnapped from Overton Park in Memphis last week after a concert.  The criminals put her in the trunk of her car and drove off with the car.  She was lucky that she was somehow able to get out of her car truck on Poplar.  From what I have read, the criminals have yet to be caught and that has been a week ago.  That is just one of many incidents in Overton Park.  So, it looks like to me these city leaders need to concentrate on criminals instead of trying to hassle honest people who are trying to protect themselves.
  24. Some of you might want to go over to the AG's website and read his opinion on park property that addresses some of the questions we have had with the new park carry law.  The opinion was requested by a state senator in Memphis.   An opinion is just an opinion when it is not from your own attorney, but I would say the AG's office has a lot to back up his opinion regarding handgun carry permits and recreational facilities.    Basically the AG's office says that if a property is a park or rec facility owned by the state, county, or city, then we should be good to go as far as carrying due to the plain reading of the statute and legislative intent.
  25. What would you like to see proposed and passed as a bill next year that actually has a chance of passing in Nashville?   I would like to see the no gun sign law, 39-17-1359, either modified or deleted so that someone with a handgun carry permit does not risk a fine and permit suspension for carrying past a no gun sign.  This would legalize a whole lot of places for people with handgun carry permits, such as local government offices in the Memphis area, some hospitals, and businesses.  I do think, however, that private property owners should be able to ask people to leave, but not turn it into a weapons charge fine/permit suspension issue.   I don't think we have any chance for Constitutional carry with this legislature and governor, but if we did, what good does it do us when property owners stick up 'no guns' signs that can get you fined?
