  1. Yep, if the politicians claim that we need to be trained, finger printed, and checked out to carry a handgun in public, then we should be qualified to carry a handgun anywhere off duty LEO's can carry in this state, such as school property. You can't be qualified to carry in Wal Mart but not qualified to carry at a college. Both locations are in public. Unfortunately, most of these decisions are based on emotion instead of facts. How else is it legal for a hunter ed instructor or school shooting team or working armed guards to have guns on school property, but someone with a handgun carry permit cannot carry. So they can't say we are somehow unqualified when there are many other exceptions to the no guns on school property law in TN.
  2. I don't think the politicians really wanted people to carry on college campuses. It is an election year so they wanted to bump their NRA ratings and look pro gun. The politicians made the law so complicated and such a mess that it is either unappealing to carry through the whole campus police notification requirement for public colleges or your private colleges flat out will not give permission. None of the surrounding states that have legal college carry went about it this stupid. In the surrounding states (with college carry), if you have a permit, you are legal.
  3. I'm surprised that there are not equal protection issues with this law. How can it be legal for only full time employees to carry but the rest of the population with permits, such as students and visitors, cannot carry at a public college? The politicians should have written a clean law exempting people with permits on college or even better all school property and left it at that. I'm guessing this is one of those laws a politician wanted to pass and then fix the right way the next time around, kind of like the original park carry law.
  4. Yep, Republicans should demand that new machine guns can be NFA registered or suppressors fall off NFA if there any concession to any sort of anti gun bill. If Democrats don't want to give anything to us, then the Republicans should not give anything to the anti gun crowd.
  5. The problem with universal background checks in other states is that it is basically de facto gun registration because all sales must go through FFL's. None of the states that have gone down this path have allowed folks to show each other handgun carry permits or call a phone number to do a background check without any formal FFL paperwork. Plus when the anti groups ask for compromise, it never is really compromise because the pro gun groups do not get anything in return for the chipping away of gun rights.
  6. If giving up guns for protection is such a good idea, then some of these politicians need to lead by example and stop carrying guns and refuse armed bodyguards. Until that happens, I don't think there is much to debate or compromise on.
  7. McCain is a lite Democrat, so this does not surprise me.
  8. These politicians blame guns because they are too weak to go after the terrorists head on and the terrorists just laugh at our country and keep doing their evil.
  9. This guy seems to cause some of his own problems instead of laying low and staying out of the spotlight.
  10. The guy is more of a flip flopper than Romney and McCain.  Who knows what he would really do but we know what Hillary will try to do.   As far as guns you can either take a chance with Trump or vote for Hillary and know she will make things as difficult as she can for gun owners.  Both Trump and Hillary seem to be very self centered people and will say and do whatever they can get away with to get ahead.
  11. Sounds like the GA governor is just another lite Democrat that doesn't care much for gun rights.
  12. At one point in this part of the country, the Democratic primaries were basically the election because no Republican would ever get elected.  A lot of these republicans are really just lite democrats that switched parties.  They just join the republican party because they have to in order to get elected, especially after obamacare has made the democratic party unpopular in most of Tennessee.    Many of these republicans never cared much for gun rights and will only vote for a highly restrictive/no real world change gun bill in an election year so they get NRA brownie points and appear to be 'standing up' to Obama.
  13. Present law in 39-17-1359   (c)  (1) It is an offense to possess a weapon in a building or on property that is properly posted in accordance with this section.    (2) Possession of a weapon on posted property in violation of this section is a Class B misdemeanor punishable by fine only of five hundred dollars ($500).     Easy Fix   (c)(1) It is not a criminal offense to possess a weapon in a building or on property that is posted in accordance with this section, but may subject the person to denial to the building or property or removal from the building or property.       I can't believe that with so many politicians asleep at the wheel that the NRA can't get this one fixed for us with a quick 1-2 sentence revision after the NRA wasted time on the no gun sign law with this bill and another bill this year.    You could fix the school gun law by adding the same sentence for people with permits and pacify the schools with giving them the ability to ask folks to leave with no criminal charges, but again I guess that is too difficult.
  14. This is just another person who is protected by people with guns but does not want you or me to have guns.  I wish people like this would follow their beliefs and give up their armed protection if guns are so bad.
  15. What happens if you move out of Tennessee?  Is the lifetime permit still valid or does it automatically become invalid when you no longer live or work in Tennessee?  I know that right now the only nonresidents that can get TN permits are people who work in Tennessee.
  16. You might want to look at the final amended version that became law.  It is Public Chapter 0698 for private school carry .  The way I read the final version, a private school is NOT required to develop a handgun carry policy.  If the private school does not have a policy, then it is still by default illegal to carry at the school.  Also the law was changed so that private schools do not have to put up signs like the public schools to make carry illegal.
  17. It was HB 1644 / SB 1559  .
  18. The way I understand the private K-12 and private college carry law is that the K-12 school or college will have to specifically allow by policy people to carry.  If the private school or college does not allow carry by policy, then it is still illegal to carry even without certain signs.  Between the lack of awareness and also unwillingness to specifically state in policy to allow carry, I highly doubt you'll be able to carry legally at very many private schools or colleges.
  19. We have a lot of lite Democrats here that run as Republicans, especially after Obamacare made Democrats fairly unpopular in TN.  It's pretty obvious that they really don't want pro gun bills but will promote what appears to be a pro gun bill for the camera, especially in an election year.  In reality, they will put as many restrictions as possible on carry at a college that not many people will legally carry.  You may end up with a handful of employees carrying at a big public university.  You would have more if all people with a permit could carry, especially visitors, vendors, and students.  I seriously doubt any private university will allow it thus making carry still illegal with a permit the way the law has been rewritten.
  20. The way I read the bill with the amendments that passed it does not have an opt out clause for public colleges.  It's still a joke of a law that only allows full time employees to carry and they have to notify the security department or another administrator that they are carrying.  At least the employees' names are supposed to be kept private under this law and not released to their bosses.  I'm of the opinion that other people are bound to find out when you can't keep your carrying to yourself.   The private K-12 school and private college bill is even worse because the private schools and colleges basically have to give you permission to carry on their property.  We all know that 99% of private entities (whether schools or any other property) will NOT give express permission to carry so that is another supposedly 'pro gun' law that doesn't change anything.  Think if you had to ask permission everywhere you carried?  You would not be able to carry anywhere.
  21. I don't see why you couldn't carry.  Are the tour bus folks running your carry on bags and you through metal detectors and X Ray machines?  If they are not doing that, I don't see how they would know just like any other place.
  22. You could use an ankle holster or a pocket holster.
  23. It looks like the public college employee carry bill will be voted on in the state senate today.   The bill does require the employee carrying at a public college to conceal the handgun.  The employee can't legally carry at college athletic events or employee disciplinary meetings.  The employee also must notify someone that he is carrying on campus, such as campus police/security.   Too bad the legislature could not get a decent college carry bill through that would just legalize anyone with a handgun carry permit carrying on college property.
  24. You can carry legally.  As long as you are concealing then you should be fine.
  25. People need to realize that 90% of these money people just want their hired guards to have guns and for the common man to not have guns, kind of like the way money people in Europe operate.  If they really followed their principles, then they would not hire armed guards to protect them and their property.   I believe I remember reading recently that Bloomberg had NYPD officers protecting his home in Bermuda and he was able to get the Bermuda government to give the NYPD officers basically Bermuda carry licenses.  Now why do local American police need to carry in a country where most of the police DO NOT (like UK police) carry firearms, very few of the people own guns, and very few of those are carrying guns in public?  Bloomberg doesn't want you or me to own a gun but he gets foreign countries to give his local police carry licenses so they can carry in a basically gun free country to protect him.
