Handgun Carry Permit Improvements
300winmag replied to 300winmag's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
(3) (A) A sign shall be used as the method of posting. The sign shall include the phrase "NO FIREARMS ALLOWED", and the phrase shall measure at least one inch (1") high and eight inches (8") wide. The sign shall also include the phrase "As authorized by T.C.A. § 39-17-1359". (B) The sign shall include a pictorial representation of the phrase "NO FIREARMS ALLOWED" that shall include a circle with a diagonal line through the circle and an image of a firearm inside the circle under the diagonal line. The entire pictorial representation shall be at least four inches (4") high and four inches (4") wide. The diagonal line shall be at a forty-five degree (45 degrees) angle from the upper left to the lower right side of the circle. (4) An individual, corporation, business entity, or government entity that, as of January 1, 2015, used signs to provide notice of the prohibition permitted by subsection (a) shall have until January 1, 2018, to replace existing signs with signs that meet the requirements of subdivision (b)(3). From what I understand, if a property had a no gun sign on Jan 1, 2015 that had a picture of a gun or the TCA language, then that sign is valid until Jan 2018. How in the world anyone would know if a previously valid sign was up in Jan 2015 just adds to the legal trap of this no gun sign law. -
How many of you would like to see the current no gun sign law penalty changed from this: (c) (1) It is an offense to possess a weapon in a building or on property that is properly posted in accordance with this section. (2) Possession of a weapon on posted property in violation of this section is a Class B misdemeanor punishable by fine only of five hundred dollars ($500). To something like this: (c) Possession of a weapon on posted property shall not be a criminal act but may subject the person to denial to the premises or removal from the premises. I would also add this sort of clause to the school property no gun law so that people with permits cannot be charged with a weapons charge but schools can still ask people to leave. In my opinion this is what the legislature should have done this year instead of spending the time on the silly no gun sign liability law that got in the news and also changing up the wording of the no gun signs. Is there a way that we can get the NRA and TFA to push for this next year at least for the posted property law and possibly for the school property gun law? I think it strikes a balance between keeping the good people with permits out of legal trouble and also schools and other property owners not losing the ability to ask people to leave. Missouri and Kansas basically have these sort of exceptions for carrying on school property and other posted property.

Texas College Carry Legal August 1st
300winmag replied to 300winmag's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Yeah it was my understanding that the private schools can opt out there but that if you have a license you can't be criminally charged for a weapons violation. I'd have to look into this. -
College carry in Texas became legal this week. You carry legally at both public and private colleges. From what I understand, the private colleges can ask you to leave, but the public colleges can't ask you to leave. You are required to conceal. Too bad TN RINO's gave us such a watered down version of college carry that only benefits public college full time employees. I doubt that any private college employees can even legally carry because the private college must give the green light in policy or it is still a felony offense.

The democrats want to take our money to buy guns for themselves and the people protecting them.
-
Yeah to me the same argument against carrying at gun shows is what is keeping us from getting these silly 'no gun' signs fine removed and school/college property carry. You are either safe or not safe to carry in public. Carrying at a grocery store is no different than a school or a gun show. The handgun stays concealed and holstered and no one knows about it.
-
If someone is not bright enough to keep his loaded handgun holstered at a gun show he might need to rethink carrying in public until he gets some solid training. When at a gun show I keep my loaded carry gun concealed . Guns that I'm trading are of course unloaded.
-
Carrying at a gun show is no different than anywhere else. I don't know why pro gun people would want to be made breaking a law, such as the no gun sign law in Tennessee, for carrying at a gun show.
-
Most of those gun shows are at city or county owned rec facilities, so if you have a handgun carry permit you are legal to carry. I've never seen metal detectors at a gun show, so unless you are dumb and show the gun to someone, then no one knows.
-
Remember that people like Hillary Clinton think that the 2nd amendment applies to them but not to the common man. She will gladly carry a gun and/or have people with guns protect her while the average people are denied that same ability.

New Assault Weapon ban in Massachusetts
300winmag replied to xsubsailor's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
It looks like the AG is stretching legal interpretation and making up her own law. Still MA is not the best place to be if you like guns. -
Range Master was on Mt Moriah and was an indoor range.

Western country leaders lack the guts to do what needs to be done to deal with ISIS. There is no reason that ISIS should have a functioning nation within Syria. Why have the power supplies, gas lines, food, and water lines not been cut off to the ISIS cities?

Knoxville can call Chilhowee Park another name but it is still a park and even has park in its name. The park carry law says that you can carry in parks and similar properties. I'd conceal and be glad to know that I'm legal and also to avoid someone asking me to leave.
-
The no guns signs at parks and similar properties do not apply to people with handgun carry permits.
-
You can have a loaded handgun in your car in Illinois and that includes Chicago. You can also of course keep your handgun in your hotel room.

Unfortunately you can't coyote hunt here at night, even on private property. It is one of the few things I would like changed in the game regs here. Also you can't use a centerfire rifle to coyote hunt during deer bow season. That is also kind of a pain.

Burning questions on Why does TN. honor Ca. CCW?
300winmag replied to vontar's topic in General Chat
Tennessee honors all the other states' permits. I'm sure a good bit of the people in California with CCW's did not vote for the goofy politicians in LA and SF that come up with their silly laws. They are unfortunately outnumbered. Until this year, people in California with licenses had it better than us and could legally carry in K-12 schools and colleges. Of course the goofy bed wetters in SF and LA found out that was legal and messed it up for them. -
HB2033 / SB 1736 No Gun Sign Liability Bill
300winmag replied to 300winmag's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
We need something like this to replace the no gun sign law in Tennessee. This strikes a great balance between property rights and gun rights. We need to make this a high priority next legislative session. Oklahoma D. The carrying of a concealed or unconcealed firearm by a person who has been issued a handgun license on property that has signs prohibiting the carrying of firearms shall not be deemed a criminal act but may subject the person to being denied entrance onto the property or removed from the property. If the person refuses to leave the property and a peace officer is summoned, the person may be issued a citation for an amount not to exceed Two Hundred Fifty Dollars ($250.00). -
1 in 9 adults in TN now have HCP
300winmag replied to jgradyc's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I don't know why you would spend the money on a handgun carry permit to not carry a handgun in public. It's not like you need a permit to keep a handgun at your home, business, or car. -
My ideas on protecting the 2nd Amendment
300winmag replied to Pete123's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Basically you have the right to keep an ordinary handgun on your property for self defense. Mags over 10 rounds, modern sporting weapons, carry laws will probably just be left up to individual states. -
Basically the politicians went about this the complicated and backward way instead of just removing the misdemeanor fine for no gun signs. Of course they messed up the whole college carry law too so this is not surprising.
