I have thought about a gate a few times. This Spring I needed an ambulance at 4:30am, what do you do for emergency vehicles. I do have a driveway that would be easy to block with a gate. with a riven on one side and bank on the other side. Only way into the house without walking through the woods and up a steep hill.

Depending on how you packet and supplement interior parts, I find that the canvas tool bags that Harbor Freight and Lowe's sells make very good gun and camera bags with some creative modifications and don't look like they are full of expensive toys.
