Welcome. We just moved to TN and are south of Jonesborough just off 107 on the other side of the mountain from Erwin.

Welcome, I'm in Jonesborough. Only been here a few weeks so I'm still learning the ropes myself.
-
I think I need one of those.

Thanks for all the encouragement. We actually moved in to our TN house on June 25th and stayed a whole week before we were off to Ohio for a pre planned trip (famiy/car show) that we do every year. We will be back to continue unpacking and settling in soon. We have met a couple of our neighbors and several business owners/employees and all have been great in helping us get settled in. Now if I could just get the rest of my shop moved down and sell the NY house I would be done with that place.

We just moved to Jonesborough and love it here. So far the heat and humidity has not been bad, the locals say the mountains moderate both. Not many mosquitoes either but that apparently varies with time of year and location. You have joined a great group here. Welcome

The bottom was a piece of angle plastic that I had in the shop that was some edge packing from something we got at work and I thought it might be useful and brought it home. Probably could find something similar in the pieces they make for vinyl siding or make it out of wood. I understood the original poster as wanting something to temporarily rack long guns while sorting out the gun safe not for storing in the gun safe. I made it for my backyard range so when a couple of us were shooting and wanted to bring out more than one gun each we had a place to hold the extras rather than putting them on the ground on a case or leaning against a tree. It weights almost nothing and is easy to setup.

I shot Sport Clays before I moved from Western NY and really enjoy it but am not very good. I haven't found a good place to shoot since I moved. Nearest I have found with Sport Clays so far is up in Bristol VA and that is about an hour away. After the dust settles a bit more from the move I will have to look harder. An hour would not be to bad once in awhile. May have to try skeet or trap.

They are not really tennis balls but you could use TBs. These were at a hardware store as dog toys and look like TBs but they are harder and were 3 to a package for like a dollar. I used a spade bit and drilled a hole through one side then used a short screw.

It's on my list. Wish I had time to run down to see if they have any left.

This what I made for a portable/temporary gun rack. Cost about $5 to make. Cheap plastic sawhorse from Harbor Freight and some dog throw tennis balls. Base is a piece of plastic I had from some old packing material but could be a piece of wood.

Can't give a lot of detail because I haven't had the time to put many rounds through my American yet. I liked it from when I first held one in the store and bought one a few weeks later. I'm currently using it with stock sights, no scope.

Probably the last update for this thread. I will start a new one in General for all my questions in a week or so. We pulled into our new place outside Jonesborough this morning about 10:30am. We are now living with 2 lawn chairs and a new bed that was delivered this afternoon. The rest of the household stuff along with another load from my shop show up on Saturday. We plan to get our TN drivers licenses and auto plates tomorrow then open a bank account, then we will be official.

Our Idiots: TN DL Extended Past HCP
Jeb48 replied to Oh Shoot's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I'm moving to TN this week and will be applying for HCP later this summer after getting settled in and getting drivers license changed, take the appropriate course etc. I turn 67 a few weeks ago so I will be a few months in to my 67th year when I apply. With the law change will I get issued one due in 2018 or 2023? I already have permits in NY and UT so I'm covered till I get my HCP. Was also told that TN recognizes an out of state license for 6 months when you move to TN, not sure if that is true but they do recognize UT. -
Thinking back to our travels last Summer, it looks like Louisville KY is within your distant requirements. If you haven't been to Mega Cavern you might want to look into it. They have a bunch of neat stuff for the younger crowd, being old farts we just watched the fun and took the tram ride. A bit pricy but it was nice and cool under ground on a hot day. http://www.louisvillemegacavern.com/ If you go to Louisville and your 11 year old is into history of battles and weapons the Frazier Museum was excellent. Live demonstrations and lots of stuff for kids. The Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft is just down the street, we parked and my wife went there and I went to the Fraizer. We agreed to meet back at the truck and whoever got back first would just read to kill time. My wife finished her museum and read for an hour or so at the car before I got back and I could have spent more time there with no trouble. http://fraziermuseum.org/ There are several other museums that looked interesting but we only had an afternoon left in town. The The Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory would be fun for baseball fans, we are not, so were not tempted. http://www.sluggermuseum.com/

I find I get my best squirrel shots with my 12g

I have a good memory and had a car with a small tank, in 1966 I could fill the tank when on fumes for $2.

Gray TN has a neat fossil museum and if the timing is right you can watch an active dig. Not worth the trip all by itself but added to other things it might be worth considering for an 11 year old. I think they may have some youth activities also,we had no youth with us so I didn't really pay much attention.

I carry a snubnose revolver because.....
Jeb48 replied to FortKnox's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I bought both a semi and a snub nose in .22 (back when ammo was easier to get) so I could put a lot of rounds down range without backing the bank to decide which I liked best. I later bought a couple of large caliber semi's but didn't buy another snub till fairly recently. I bought the Ruger LCR in 9mm with moon clips (to go with my LCR .22). Figured it would be super reliable etc, and it is, accept I had 2 different lot numbers of Blazer Brass fail. The bullets actually came out of casing after the first 2 or 3 rounds were shot causing a jam. I contacted Blazer and sent them back and they replaced them after testing. They gave no excuses, just that they were a weak crimp. Replacement work fine. I have tried 6 different brands including defensive loads with no other problems but always question will it happen again. -
My Wife and I both have iPhones we bought used off contract. We are not big users but use them when we need them including data when we are away from WiFi. My wife uses Page Plus, a Verizon reseller. $100/year 10 cents/minute, 10 cents/MB. If you have money left over at the end of the year it rolls over. You can add extra dollars when you get low. I use H2O, an ATT reseller. $80/year 10 cents/minute, 10 cents/MB. If you have money left over at the end of the year it rolls over. You can add extra dollars when you get low. I use mine so little I have a large surplus in my account so I have been using a cheaper plan, the $10 every three months, for over a year to spend down my surplus.

Welcome, we are moving from east of Rochester in a couple of weeks after 46 years, practically neighbors. We looked at some place in Oakridge this past summer but finally found our dream house in Jonesborough.

I grew up free in NW Ohio but got lured to NY after college for employment. Now that isn't needed.....
-
Yep, Counting the days, less than 3 weeks till we move

I really like my G4 19. Got about 1400 rounds through it since I got it last year. Was looking for something that went bang every time I pulled the trigger no matter what the ammo. I have run 9 or 10 different kinds of ammo so far and the only failures I had was with TulAmmo MaxX crap, 5 failure to feed out of 200 rounds plus it is dirty.

I'll probably forget the date around day 689 so remind me when you get close :D Jim...

:D My son lives just west of Bmore and hopes to escape to TN someday but work gets in the way of life sometimes.
