  1. I know it shouldn't be needed but it would be nice if TN managed to do the same thing. Ohio gun owners with a carry permit can skip NICS check. They still have to fill out 4473 but it doesn't get called in just but in dealer's records. https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2016/05/robert-farago/ohio-concealed-handgun-license-approved-background-check/ Jim...
  2. Here is a test of Carhartt's bullet repelling ability. http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2016/05/robert-farago/ttag-exclusive-shootingthebull410-test-carhartt-jacket-gold-dot-124p-9mm-ammo-re-nypd-claim-stopped-bullets/
  3. I'll take a 20oz of whatever style you decide on. I actually like the looks of the RTIC better.
  4. I would never use WD-40 on any part of a gun, it is not a cleaner solvent and can gum things up worse over time. There are very good clear solvents made for gun use if you think the problem is a gummed up mechanism.
  5. Model 67 was my first real gun after BB and Pellet, my Dad gave it to me, not sure if it was just one of his extra guns or he bought it specifically to give to me. Was used and worked well, shot a lot of rats at the dump with it. Still have it in the safe. I hadn't shoot it for years and dug it out about 4 years ago. The firing pin/spring assembly was gummed up but a little cleaning and I had it` shooting again, brought back lots of memories. Cleaned and put it back in the safe again till next time.
  6. Welcome, you picked a great part of the state to settle. We picked this area after looking around the Eastern side of the state on a couple of vacation trips. We moved from Western NY last June for exactly the same reasons you are moving. My only regret is I didn't do it years ago. We had so many people asks us why that we finally shortened the reply to "Less: Winter, Taxes, Government" We started looking in the Bristol/Kingsport area but by the time we found what we wanted we were South of Jonesborough about 10 miles. A place to shoot on our own land was high on my list of wants and ended up with a place that I can shoot off  my back deck. I had a great realtor in Kingsport if you need a referral. He spent many days over two trips driving us all over the area. By the second or third day he knew what we wanted better than we knew ourself. He went out of his way to show us where things were we might need after we moved. When I found this place online he drove out to look at it and take additional pictures of things he thought were important to us and told us this was the one and not to take to long planning our next trip.
  7. Shooting on my own property was near the top of our list of wants when we were looking for our current place. Shooting off my back deck is very nice indeed. I can only get out to about 25 yards this time of year because of undergrowth I can't really remove. 40-50 yards is possible during the Winter. Now I'm thinking of where I can set up to shoot clays  :D
  8. I'll probably get a 20oz also, I need a new cup
  9. Welcome, I have my own mountain place NE of you. I only have 7.5 acres but back up against the National Forest that gives me some breathing space.
  10. Why would you move out of TN?   Unfortunately, I'm too old for $200 even to be a good deal. Should give a reduced price for those over the hill folkes.    Jim...
  11. A friend sent me this picture with this note "The new $20 - honors a gun toting, Christian, Republican black woman - I love it!" Jim...
  12. I have only had two brands of 9mm cause failures, neither were from a weak charge.   TulAmmo MaxX, which is about as cheap as you can get, I had 5 failure to chamber in my Glock 19 out of 200 rounds.   Blazer Brass, I actually had two boxes from two different lots that had weak crimps on the bullets, CCI checked them and replaced them. The failure was in my LCR 9mm, after 3 or 4 shots the remaining bullet(s) actually fell out of the casing and jammed the cylinder (not a problem in a semi).   Both gun have had at least 10 different brands/loads used without any other failures. About 2000 rounds through the G19 and around 300 through the LCR including the replacement Blazer Brass.
  13. The only ammo I have problems with in my SR22 is Federal American Eagle, the casing sticks in the barrel. Others had no problem so the tolerances on mine must be a little tight.
  14.   Read less interesting books.   When we decided to make the big move to TN I went for about 6 months with 3-4 hours of sleep a night. Now that we are all settled in and loving life I'm back to my normal 6. Never took anything, but it didn't really seem to affect my wake time.

    Bayonet Lug ?

Was thinking the same thing but haven't looked to hard. I would like a bipod that attaches to the bayonet mount.
  16. Before you get carried away with a foundation check with your town tax people. Many places if the shed is on skids it doesn't raise your taxes, if it is on a foundation it raises your taxes. You can dig down a little and dry stack cement blocks in a coupe of places to sit the skids on and it will last a long time. My old place had a shed I built that was 40 years old and moved once. Still in ok condition, I put a new roof on and painted it a few times and that is all. When we sold the house the shed need a little repair work to the doors but ok otherwise.   Jim...
  17. I bought a 10x10 from a local storage building company (Cherokee Storage Buildings). It is run by Mennonites and it is the best yard building I have ever seen. Way over built and solid. Highly recommend looking for Mennonites builders they take pride in their work. Besides what has already been said about bigger (10x10 was as big as would fit where I wanted it) go at least 10 ft wide, most times the 10' comes with a bigger door which will appreciate when you start moving things in and out. They also delivered with a real trick trailer that puts the building where ever you want it. I ordered the wrong ramp and they took it back and delivered a longer one the next day, only charge was the difference it the cost of the two ramps. When I said I might be putting extra heavy stuff in the center they added an extra pier in the middle, no extra charge. You sit down and tell them what you want and what you don't and they tell you the cost and built it with siding, roof, size, etc you want.
  18. That's about what I paid 5 or 6 years ago. Never seen any great deals on the AR-7.   Jim...
  19. I'm just down the road in Jonesborough
  20. In college we hung a dummy by one of the class room buildings, with a teacher's name on it that we didn't like at Halloween. Then on Halloween night we took it down and one of the crew dressed up in the dummy suit with sign and laid on his porch and we knocked on the door and ran. When he opened it and started cursing, the dummy jumped up and ran off. Was funny at the time.
  21. Toilet paper rolls are not as wide either, they actually down sized the width at least twice over the last 5 years. Didn't check paper towels. We had a TP dispenser that was real tight fit width wise one day I noticed we had space so I kept the old cardboard tube on the shelf and compared them for awhile and saw the reduction, at one point I had 3 size lined up. Stopped check then and we have moved so I lost my reference.
  22. Welcome, I escaped Western NY back in June. Just finishing up the last connection to that police state, my half years worth of NYS taxes.   You'll have a great life down here. Every week I find something else that I didn't know I was being restricted from or over charged for back in NY.
  23. Been very luck this house and the previous we had great regular postal delivery people. If it doesn't fit it is brought up a fairly steep long drive/road (.4 miles to the mailbox). He even switched to a more aggressive Jeep when we had snow and came up the drive when even we were not to sure about if we could make it. He does honk when he pulls up, but if we don't come out it is placed on a chest freezer on the back porch by the door. Now the substitute delivery person, generally Saturdays, will put a note in the box that we were not home to take delivery even when we are home. I was tracking a package I really needed one time and actually put a stop on my mail so it would stay at the post office so I could pick it up Saturday morning because I knew the substitute would haul it around and take it back after the PO closed.    UPS and FedEx are also great, they have actually told I didn't need to come out that they were suppose to bring to the door. One time when I had two packages the driver insisted on carrying the bigger package which I could have handled with the other package.   We buy lots over the internet and they all know where we live now. They were all appreciative when we handed out treats and Dunkin Donut coupons.
  24. Welcome back to East TN.   Should be cooler here.
  25. I considered the large Cannon from Tractor Supply. It would have been fine for my needs. I moved up to the Liberty for two reason, better quality and delivery. I really didn't have anyway to get the Cannon home and into place without recruiting a lot of help. I'm new to the area so that would have been harder than at our old place. I have the 12 gun safe that Tractor Supply sells under the Winchester brand, that I still use, and the difference in quality is significant.
