area-knoxville Gun Show at the Expo this weekend
Jeb48 replied to Camaro_nut2001's topic in Events and Gatherings
I went back in December, was a nice show, found a Beretta I was looking for. Are any of the many shows they have there bigger/better than the others. -
I only shot the Phoenix on one outing and it was new to my friend also and it was probably operator error but as I recall the safety(s) had to be in a particular position to remove the magazine (and maybe put in a magazine) and at least one maybe both had to be off to rack the first round. Just seem strange. The friend actually bought the same gun in .22 and .25 at the same time and we thought the .25 was defective because we couldn't rack it or remove the magazine initially till we figured out the safety combinations. Neither of us have a semi with a slide safety so that was probably part of the problem.

I have 2 different friends with the HP22 in the kit with short and long barrels. Fun to shoot and accurate, for it's size, but the double safeties are a bit strange in how they interact. I had one on my want list but bought a Beretta Bobcat 21A in .22, that filled the void for a very small .22 semi for now.

I painted the front sight of my LCR .22 white and it helped. Used a paint pen.

I have a Ruger LCR .22 that I like, recently bought the Ruger SP101, I like it but it shoots a little rough not sure if it just needs more use to work in or if it is just the way it is. The LCR is nice because if you want a larger caliber they feel much the same, I have one in 9mm and have been tempted to pick up a .357. They feel very similar till you feel the kick. Semi, lots to choose from but I really like my Ruger SR22 for a small pistol. Also have the new Ruger Mark IV and it is a nice shooter.

It tapers off after 6 months or so. Same thing happen when one opened up close to me years ago. One thing that helped me was when a friend that had lived by one of the first retailed stores told me that just about everything in the store will be on sale sometime in 6 months to a year, don't buy what you don't immediately need till it is on sale or you have a 20% off coupon. :-) -
I tend to not sell guns but I did have remorse for one. My first shotgun was a Mossberg .410 lever action. A misunderstanding of ownership and my Father sold it. Almost 40 years later I decided to try and get it back since I knew who he sold it to. I hadn't tried before because I was told the fellow never sold a gun and figured he would not sell it to me. My Mother still lives in the same town and knew him and contacted him. He said he had sold it to a big collector in Cleveland. He remembered who he sold it to and tried to contact the collector. The fellow had died but his wife was in the process of selling his guns and she still had it. My Mother was informed and she told him to buy it for her and arrange to have it picked up. On my next visit we were only home a few minutes and she disappeared into her bedroom and came out with it. She would never tell me how much she paid for it, she just handed it to me. So it took awhile but my gun remorse went away. If I had waited much longer it would have been gone forever, sold to someone else and the original fellow that bought it from my Dad is in his 80s and had a stroke the next year and has never completely recovered so would not have been able to make the connection to where it went.

I went ahead and joined. We will see how it goes for a year.

Saw my first one this week. One of the contractors that has been doing a project for me has them on his truck. He said he picked them up on Monday.

I have UT, up till January 1st that gave me nothing but now restores WA. Cost me around $100 for a course and paper work and I think $35 for permit that is good for 5 years. Course was 4 hours all classroom and they did the photo and fingerprints needed for application. At the time I got it I was in NY and it expanded my range a lot. My NY permit is technically void at this time. The judge that issued mine told me how I could get it converted to an out of state permit but decided it wasn't worth the bother since they were going to require all permits to be renewed in 2018 (was lifetime) and I didn't think his solution would survive their new process anyway.

Thanks for the opinions, I think I will join. I was active in the state wide group back in NY, not that it did much good but we tried. We actually was keeping the status quo for all but NY City till the Governor pushed his latest through in the middle of the night with no time for anyone to read what they were passing. Feel I should do the same here to be sure we don't go the way NY did so many years ago. I have really enjoyed living in America again after to long in NY. Grew up in Ohio and didn't know what we had there till I moved. My first boss was actually relieved when I showed up the first day. He had forgot to warn me about NY gun laws (this was way back in 69) and knowing I was coming from Ohio thought I might be driving out with a car load. Apparently they had a new employee detained the year before moving in from the midwest with a back seat full of guns.

I just heard about Tennessee Firearms Association. Was surprised that I had missed knowing about them. What's the opinion on what they do? Is it worth joining?

I made this from one of their cheap saw horses I bought on sale. I added some fake tennis balls that they sell for dogs 3 for a dollar most places and added a piece of plastic angle material I had around the shop. I drilled a hole in the balls with a spade bit and screwed the balls in place. Makes a light weight portable gun rack for my backyard range and comes in handy when I need to dig to the back of the gun safe. -
I think I can remember when I had 3 guns. Welcome to TGO.

Never had a real Moon Pie just homemade ones which I was never that fond of, may have to try a real one some time. I use to be a big fan of RC but haven't had one in many years, they were probably still using cane sugar when I use to like it.

Welcome Mike. We looked at the Rogersville area when we were looking for property before going further South. Nice area. I think our realtor put over 500 miles on his car driving us around East TN trying to find the right place.
-
Welcome Mark from East TN. We escaped from the evil neighbor state of The People's Republic of Konnecticut about a year ahead of you. My only regret has been that I didn't do it sooner. You will love your new state. I still love going to gun shows just to see things that were never allowed in NY. And of course like you I have been stocking up on formally forbidden firearms and accessories.

I guess I don't clean and oil my guns enough, a $10 bottle last me a year or more. I can't see playing petroleum chemist for the amount I use. Good to know the options if needed though.

I like gun shop parking lots just because people are use to seeing guns coming and going from vehicles in those lots. They may get nervous at McDonalds. I tend to buy and never sell but I have been asked for drivers license and once for a carry permit. Most time they just ask the standard questions and we exchange cash for gun.

I like G96 cleaner/lub. Use to find it everywhere but lately it seems to be harder to find. The last I bought I got online.

I'm actually still buying some select Craftsman tools but not from Sears. Seems like as the older generation dies off more and more good quality old school Craftsman hand tools show up at auto flea markets. Before I rebuilt my 45 year old ratchett I had already found a replacement Craftsman ratchet of a slightly different style but still USA made for $10. I have also bought a few SnapOn tools at flea markets at good prices.
-
It had been years for me too, till about a month ago. My favorite ratchet (45+ years old) was not staying engaged. I had heard that the rebuild kit was no longer made and Sears would replace with Chinese replacement so I tore it apart to see if I could fix it. Turned out to just need cleaning but one of the snap rings went flying across the room, lost forever. In the off chance Sears might have the ring I took it in parts into the local store in a ziplock bag. They said no problem and took it off somewhere and cleaned it some more, added their magic grease and put it back together with a new snap ring, no charge. Should out live me now. Then I went back about a week ago to look at a miter saw that was suppose to be on sale that I saw while waiting for my ratchet. It wasn't and I left. Maybe I will wait for the liquidation sale.

At my old place I used some junk trees that weren't worth making into fire wood into a backstop for my shooting range. I know it isn't a forever backstop but it was still going strong after 5 years when we moved down to TN. I made a presure treated framework to keep them contained and stacked it full. I filled voids as I stacked with wood chips. I only used it for handguns and .22 so wasn't to worried about a bullet finding a path through the pile. I had it stacked so I was shooting into the sawed ends of the logs. As an aside I debated about disassembling it when we put the house on the market not knowing who would be buying the house but decided to leave it. I have heard from one of our old neighbors that the new owner uses it regularly.

When I went through this process I decided about 9pm the day that I had the final step done that I would check the online status just to make sure everything had been submitted correctly. It came back saying approved and the carry permit would show up in the mail in 10 to 14 days. I had it about a week after that. Very streamline from what I had to go through when I got my NY CC. Took me 7 months and I was in a very gun friendly county.
