Moving to TN - question on concealed carry permit
Jeb48 replied to Thunor's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Since one of my postings from July of last years was quoted, I thought I'd chime in. I didn't go to the $72 class. I found a $50 class at a local gun club. I have previously taken two different NRA handgun classes and the Utah carry class, so the only thing I got that I needed was the TN law part, some review and the checkmark to get my carry permit. For a new shooter it would be a lot more valuable. I certainly could have gotten just as much out of an online TN law tutorial. Would be nice if a person has previous class credits from NRA or a different state, even if more than 6 months old, that they could take an online tutorial and if they pass could skip the class. -
I stopped in to the Walmart in Erwin/Unicoi last week for something else, I always check ammo availability when I'm in a Walmart. There was a fellow stocking the ammo shelf so I asked if they had any .22. His answer was no and they were not carrying it any more. Don't remember the exact words but it almost sounded like no Walmarts were going to carry .22 ammo anymore.

Would be glad to but I just checked where Lakeland was and it would be hard to be much further apart and still be in TN. I added a Hogue grip to mine to take a little of the bite out of shooting it. I use a DeSantis Super Fly Pocket Holster with it, conceals very well.

Well I got my answer today, I was just lucky on the first brick. Open a fresh brick today and had 3 duds in the first 50-60 rounds. Oh well it is just plinking ammo, I will get through the 2000 rounds, but will chose when I'm shooting it when I can take care of duds.

I used some UMC in .380 and had a failure to chamber and a failure to eject (jammed last round in mag). Only other ammo out of a dozen different brands and types was the cheap steel TulAmmo. I don't buy either anymore.

Love it. If I have time I usually try to lead them on for awhile, ask questions to see if I can get them to start over and finally when I get boredred I tell them to try and steal control of someone else computer and hang up. I am an all Mac household with zero MicroSoft software in the house. They call my 89 year old Mother all the time and she tries to explain she does not own a computer and they argue with her that she does. My son is in IT and he likes to pretend he is doing what they say and telling them bogus info that is showing up on the screen and they get very frustrated that what they are telling him to do doesn't work.

From all the problems people are reporting here, the dealer may be right, I took it with a grain of salt when he said it, but I have shot the full 500 rounds of the first brick in multiple different semi-auto .22 long guns and handguns as well as bolt, lever, pump and revolver with no problems accept the one dud that happened in a lever gun and it fired on the second try. Wanted to check it out complete before committing to more. I made no attempt to see how accurate it was (not very accurate myself) but they all sound the same when shot and didn't cause any problems in any of the guns. I know when some inexpensive things that are manufactured they pull a few samples every so often and when they find a problem they dump x number of the product before the sample without testing and then start looking for the problem. If ammo dealers did this I could see them shipping the dumps to the cheap outlets and the good stuff to those willing to pay more money. Or I could have been lucky on the first brick and the rest that I bought will be crap

My wife and I have this unspoken understanding. I don't comment on how much fabric she buys or new sewing/embroidery machine from time to time and she doesn't comment on my ammo and gun purchases. It has worked for years. It helps that we are both fairly cheap when it comes to spending money or it could run us into the poor house. For those that don't think it is a fair trade off, I'm pretty sure she is ahead of me on spending but not as much as she use to be since we moved to a free state.

I had never shot Thunderbolts because of all the stories I heard. A few months ago I was in a small local gun shop and the owner asked if I needed any .22, I said always. He said I should try the Thunderbolts, I told him why I wasn't interested and he claims they make different quality depending if they are selling to gun stores or Walmart like places that demand the cheapest price. So I bought a brick of 500 for $38 not cheap but not horrible. I shot it in just about every .22 I own including some that are a little fussy and it shot great. Had one out 500 that took a second strike to fire. I don't know if he was feeding me a line or not but I have since bought a few more bricks.

Found my next purchase from Buds!
Jeb48 replied to Wingshooter's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
A friend of my Fathers was building a replica Gatling gun that shot .22. Last I saw it, about 15 years ago, it was almost done. Looked a lot like Buds but only about 2 feet tall with 18" wheels. I should check to see if he is still alive and if he ever got it finished. Would be fun to shoot. -
My only current .357 is a Marlin Model 1894 Lever Action Carbine, manufactured in 1981 (love it). I plan to add a revolver to go with it, maybe this thread will help me to decide what. I'm thinking double action with 6" barrel in stainless like the Ruger Security 6 but I'm still shopping.

They often ground the center neutral of the 220v to the water pipes in older houses besides the ground rod. You may be getting some current in the ground leg of the 220v for some reason. If you don't know electrical call an electrician.

I also like the change in rules, always thought it was hypocritical but figured it was the rule of the place being used for the show. I agree on the over priced ammo and most of the guns, I have found a few bargains, sometimes you just have to make an offer. I disagree about the rude people, maybe I have been lucky but I find people at gun shows to be very polite and considerate. I have been to gun shows in other states and found the same thing true. Not all dealers fit the polite/considerate standard however.

Anyone here been to National Museum of the US Air Force, Dayton, OH?
Jeb48 replied to vontar's topic in General Chat
Was there 25+ years ago and 3 years ago, could not believe how much it had grown. If you want to do the special tours go early and immediately go to the main desk and sign up, they limit how many can go each day. We did not make the cut and plan a return trip in the future. -
Raoul is guarding the N side, I have you covered from just slightly South of Tri-Cities. Welcome to the area.

Gun safe anchoring - what anchors to use?
Jeb48 replied to batninja24601's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Besides anchoring to the floor you might want to add cleats/trim pieces around the edges where the safe is against a wall. This will make it harder to get a pry bar behind the safe. Mine is in a corner so I cleated the top (2 edges), front on one side and back on the other side. I used some uncommon style screw types just to add a little more difficulty than a plain phillips would be. My son added his safe to his security system, it sends him an eMail every time it is opened. -
I found the UPS unit I was planning on buying for my wife's very expensive embroidery machine and the computer that runs it for $104 instead of $139. Was glad I was paying attention because they were sold out in less than an hour. https://www.amazon.com/CyberPower-CP1500AVRLCD-Intelligent-1500VA-Mini-Tower/dp/B000FBK3QK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468378846&sr=8-1&keywords=CyberPower+CP1500

Yea I have the one gun a year rule to. My last one was my 2028 gun. I hope to get to at least 2030 before the elections just in case.
