Boy I feel old with what you guys had for first cars. My first car was a 1949 Crosley Station Wagon that I bought for $100 when I was 13. I spent the next 3 years rebuilding it mechanically. Had it tore down to just a frame on a pair of saw horses then cleaned and painted and assembled. Never got beyond a rattle can paint job for the body when it went on the road to drive the last of my high school years. Here is the hook, I still have it. Rebuild mechanical a second time in the 70s and it is on jack stands in my shop waiting for me to get to a third rebuild.

Welcome to NE TN and TGO. I haven't been over for a while but this is where I go when I want longer distances than my backyard range. If you can manage to go during the week it is usually not crowded. I have heard on weekends it can be hard to get a lane. Never had any problems everyone I have ran into have acted in a safe manner and had no problem when you called for a ceasefire to go down range. It cost $2/car a $1 if you have a Senior National Park card. It is off TN 107 on Scioto Road. Yep I'm lazy. I try to give a good tear down cleaning once a year to all the guns that get shot regularly, the rest of the time it is bore snakes, Q-Tips and swabs to get the worst parts cleaned up. Because I'm lazy I don't get to the full tear down on all my guns every year.

I don't overly soak the barrel and have no problems so I guess I clean often enough not to be a problem. I use a little G96 on the first part of the snake and on the first set of wire bristles. So far never got one stuck. On guns with a mag well I run it up through there and then into the barrel to a little extra cleaning on the way around the corner into the barrel.

I am a fan of bore snakes, you do have to do some secondary cleaning with swaps or Q-tips, if you don't do a full tear down. Bore snakes are my primary for barrels, almost never use rods/brushes/patches. I have several that are overdue for a cleaning but they still do the job. I plan to put some Dawn dish washing liquid in a jar, drop in the snake and shake for awhile then rinse the same way, probably changing the rinse water a couple of times. Mine heavy use snakes may need to passes through the Dawn cycle to get clean.

I figured Jane would get some comments. Just so we don't have to stir the pot again later here are two more pictures of Jane. Even if her politics suck she was nice to look at in her earlier years.
